Instead of feeling cared for, we felt like we were in charge of reminding them to follow through on details. Everything from getting the death certificate, planning the service and transporting our loved one, felt like a burden at a time of tremendous grief. Overall, the customer services were inconsistent and disorganized, and the funeral experience could've been better managed. The level of care we received did not begin to approach the $11,000 we paid. I recommend the business be sold to a new owner who understands customer service.

Founded in 1859, it carries that early Kansas semse of history with long rows of older stones and a layout that still reflects its 19th century roots. Two of the more interesting figures buried here are George Tobey Anthony who served as the seventh governor of Kansas after a career as a Civil War officer and newspaperman, and Frank P. MacLennan, the longtime editor and publisher of the Topeka State Journal who helped shape journalism in the region. Visiting their markers adds a little depth to the walk, especially when you enjoy connecting names to the broader story of Kansas. I also made it a point to see the Civil War memorial and it was pretty cool to see one on the Union side as I am usually traveling in the south. The statue has that classic soldier-at-rest look and stands out nicely against the older sections of the cemetery. First is the Mausoleum Row, a cluster of about a dozen mausoleums all erected between 1880 and 1910ish that is listed on the National Historic Site index. They overlook downtown Topeka and the capitol to the west about 20 blocks away and it provides a nice serene vista. Vice President and Topeka's favorite son Charles Curtis is buried here - VP for Herbert Hoover 1929 -1933. The highest ranking Native American to serve the US government, ironically graves of those that fought against Native Americans in the Indian Wars are also buried nearby. Many Civil War soldiers and veterans are laid to rest here also.
