When I first met the pastor's wife she was working in the office and was so humble, I didn't even realize she was the first lady! They offer two different morning services on Sunday, and have a children's church as well. Also, a big highlight- they are greatly dedicated to their youth! The youth pastor and leaders are all very genuine and you can tell they care. They have their own separate sanctuary for the youth, and have an extra youth service on Wednesdays! Very cool! Thoroughly enjoyed myself and everyone I met was very friendly and welcoming! If you're looking for a good church around Columbus, GA, make sure you stop by here!!

I was invited to attend North Highland Church by my friend who also attended our most recent church to which we belonged. I was speculitive since my past experiences. I ultimately listened to God and new I had to go. I was felt like a life long member, like I was family. I was greeted at the door, church members who I never new saying " hello", smiling faces - I immediately was accepted for who I am, not what others expected of me. There is every race represented in this church, many groups to belong to. We also serve our community, both locally and missions through out the world. Of all my years attending church, including various denominations, I have never felt like an attendee but as a family member at North Highland. They have started a college and have after school care. I would like to encourage every one that would like to be a part of a family community to please join us. They are located at 7300 Whittlsey Road in Columbus Ga. Debbie Swentowsky

We were here early on a Saturday morning, so we didn't stay for services, but even from the sidewalk you can tell this is one of the city's long‑standing anchors. The marker reads, "On this site in October 1859, the Opelika Baptist Church was organized. In 1861, a "little white framed church" was erected. After a fire consumed this original building, a new structure was built in 1885. This building was referred to as the "big brick church". A larger sanctuary was built in 1954, and an educational building was constructed in 1959. Structural additions were completed in succeeding years. These included an educational building in 1964 and a chapel in 1966. Later expansion included a new family life center in 1979. An enlarged sanctuary, new office facilities, a youth building and additional educational classrooms were completed in 2008. To God Be the Glory! Great Things He Hath Done! "Lifting Up Jesus and Loving People"" The marker was erected by the First Baptist Church. It does what good local markers should do: it ties the modern building to the long arc of the congregation's life, from a small frontier‑era gathering in 1859 to a large, multi‑building campus that has grown alongside Opelika itself.
