John and his crew are knowledgeable, professional and responsive. We highly recommend them. He recently repaired our flues on our new home in Elkin. The house was built in 1952 and water had been penetrating down from the missing chimney cap. The freezer and thaw cycle had dislodged all 3 flues. He removed and replaced all. The estimated was given for the work on my front door of my house. They were reasonable and the work was done as they promised.

Shoddy workmanship and not very responsive. The Brick Doctor did some brick and mortar repair on my home and the quality of the work was sub-par. Before his mason started on the job he assured me that he could match the mortar on the rest of my home, but when he finished the mortar color was completely two-toned compared to the existing mortar. I expressed my concern and asked politely if they could fix the mortar, the mason said "the job is done" and that there wasn't anything else he could do. I contacted the owner (John) to get some resolution - but he wouldn't accommodate my request to have the mortar fixed. After going round and round for several weeks I just decided to call another masonry company and they were able to fix all the issues that the brick doctor refused to do. 1 star and not recommended. read more

Wow! Great guys to work with. John came out to quote the work the day after we contacted him. (We replaced our fireplace with a new fireplace that vented out the roof. The previous one vented out the back of the chimney and when it was removed, we were left with a hole in the chimney.) We agreed upon a fair price with John to take out broken bricks and put in 7 new ones, and the following day the work was completed. He did great work and was careful to clean up debris. John Shaver/Brick Doctor completed two decent sized jobs for me. Initially I needed to stabilize the concrete padding outside my lower level of our home. After meeing with me and looking at the job, John recommended a concrete wall to be faced with stone. His wife suggested an opening for easy access to the yard. He and his crew did a fantastic job. I have received so many compliments on the quality of his work. His pricing was fair. He checked in every now and again while working the job, he explained the process of what to expect, and was flexible in various ideas that were discussed. Toward the end of the job, I had him estimate a second project - building a retaining wall near a creek that runs by our house. The seond job took much longer than anticipated, however we started this one shortly before the winter months. The wall is completed, and again, I am so happy with the quality of his work. We had huge drainage issues around our front walk. John Shaver and crew came, dug out a huge area and installed French drains, then layers of gravel, etc and on top of that, a stone walkway that curves around our house. He also installed some dry wells and drains in other wet parts of our property. We have had no problems with drainage since then. And the stone walkway is still beautiful and in good shape. He also installed a stone retaining wall and a small stone patio in another area of our property. He was very professional, did a beautiful, quality job, cleaned up after himself thoroughly and the price was very reasonable. We would hire him again and highly recommend him. read more
