Unfortunately, we did not end up eating here. It was open seating. We came in a few minutes before 1. I feel like the bartenders looked over at us. The wait staff was waiting on tables. No one acknowledged us when they walked by us. A couple came in well after us. A waitress went and brought them menus. I got the waitresses' attention and asked if she was our server. She said "no I just got here and took a table, but I'll check."" She went into the kitchen, walked by our table, and did not say anything. We ended up leaving. read more

Sorry to say it was our second choice to dine this evening but the rights fell into our lap nicely since we started with Margarita's at home; the bartender here had skills... Instead of steaks we went with the classic bar trio; drinks, chicken wings, and pizza Classic salt rimmed Margs, Jerk and Creamy Buffalo wings, and a Big Ol Cheese Burger Pizza made its way in successful order.... Great service with friendly competent staff! All employees wearing masks but please be cognizant that social distancing is NOT practiced. We requested to set a high-top table away from other patrons, our waitress was very accommodating. The majority of the staff are Simpson College students. They are extremely polite and checked on us at least six times which is huge !!! Excellent excellent customer service!!! The food is absolutely delicious. We looove the pizza here! The chicken bacon ranch pizza is our new favorite! If you like crab Rangoon you must try The Brickhouse crab Rangoon pizza! read more

What happened here? Once upon a time this was a regular spot for us and several folks we knew around Indianola. It was never approaching great but you could get a weak drink and a decent pizza at a reasonable price in an okay atmosphere. The Pizza is much weaker now and the drinks about the same but the place is dirty with a constant yodeling of Country music in the background. It's gone bad, very bad. I went to this small quaint town with a hankering for some crab rangoon and I found a hidden jewel inside the Brickhouse Tavern - CRAB RANGOON PIZZA. I was hesitant at first and didn't want to spoil the delicacy that is crab rangoon by morphing it with cheap pizza. After some approval from our waitress, I stepped out in faith and ordered my first crab rangizza. My taste buds were leaping for joy once this conglomeration entered my mouth. The cream cheese, the crunch of the wontons, the sauce - it all messed beautifully on a crispy pizza crust. Good food- limited safety We went to pick up takeout- pizza and mozzarella sticks. Both were good. The sauce was more sweet than tangy and the crust nice and crisp. The wait was longer than they predicted which was particularly uncomfortable because about 1/3 of patrons came in without masks, despite posted signs. I understand not wearing masks once at your table, but this was not a large place and people would come in without them, huddle around the entrance and to-go area, and try to chat with us. In the 20 minutes we waited, I never heard staff ask anyone to put on a mask. It's a shame customers put staff in that position. People mingled around common areas talking without masks. Overall pizza was good but I regretted stopping in. read more

I've been here twice and they've messed up SALAD twice. The first time I had some cranberry vinaigrette affair (which is no longer on the menu) and ended up with literally a half inch of dressing on the bottom of the bowl. I would've much rather been able to dress the salad myself. Today the Greek salad was anything but Greek. Iceberg lettuce, canned olives and mozzarella cheese, of all things. Kraft Greek dressing does not a Greek salad make. Maybe if you're drunk on overpriced beer you don't notice how bad they are. The chicken Thai flat bread pizza was pretty good, but clearly a ripoff of Fong's in Des Moines, as was the crab rangoon pizza. We also had a pineapple/canadian bacon pizza, which was WAY under cooked. The atmosphere is pretty good, though the GIANT screen kind of killed the feel. Maybe that should only be unrolled for big games or when there's a big crowd? We were told by the bartender when we entered the restaurant that the server was busy "running her butt off". I'm not entirely sure what she was running her butt off doing as there were only two other tables. The service was unenthusiastic but serviceable. I find Thomas C.'s snarky reply to Angela K. above even more off-putting. Maybe he should spend less time googling Chili's statistics and more time googling what actually goes into a Greek salad. I first went to the Brickhouse Tavern three years ago and avoided the place after the excessive dressing incident. My boyfriend convinced me to try again today. we were both sorry he did. Try Wynn's or Crouse, both also on the square, instead. Neither are as pretty but the food and service are both solid. read more

Pizza recipe changed since opening, definitely for the better. Family faves have been meaty Northsider and the Taco. Pasta dishes are tasty and they're offering more options. Tortellini with rose sauce is delicious! We went out to eat at The Brickhouse last night because I absolutely love their crab rangoon flatbread. I might never go back. They were busy and we stood there at the door for about fifteen minutes before a table was free. We waited a bit longer for someone to actually clear the table, but that never happened. Finally we decided to move the mess over and sit down because maybe someone would take the hint that we'd like the table cleared and to be served. We waited quite a while. In the meantime, the young woman who was supposed to be our waitress zeroed in on two tables in her area who sat down immediately, got them cleaned up, gave them menus and drinks all while ignoring us. She even walked right past us several times. Another member of the waitstaff finally approached, apologized saying our waitress was really busy and gave us menus, but he didn't do a thing about the mess on the other side of the table. He came back with drinks, but again didn't do a thing to clear the table. Meanwhile the girl who is supposed to be our waitress walks by the table several times and does nothing. We get ready to order, flag the guy helping us down and tell him what we want. My husband hints at the mess and he manages to clear away a couple of plates. Someone shows up shortly after our appetizer does and takes the checks left there, but nothing else. Meanwhile, we keep trying to flag our guy down to get the mess cleared. Our meal comes with more apologies and a refill for my husband, but not me -- I don't get one until we're ready for the check. He takes another couple of plates, but leaves all the glasses from the last people to use the table behind. And doesn't bother to bring us forks. My daughter needs a fork to eat her meal. She sits there for about ten minutes unable to eat her dinner because we can't get anyone's attention. Not the waitress who's supposed to have the table or the guy actually helping us. Finally a different guy altogether shows up, again apologizes for them being busy and grabs the glasses off the table with the promise he'll get our waiter to bring silverware and wipe off the table. We eventually get silverware, but nobody cleans up the spills and crumbs we're eating across from. To be honest, I'm not sure why we even stayed. Busy is no excuse for not clearing a table or making sure customers have drinks and silverware. It's also no excuse for the person who's supposed to be your waitress completely ignoring your table. I kept an eye on her the entire time we were there. She had a total of three tables -- a couple, a table of three people and one with six. She spent a lot of time behind the bar talking with the bartender or in the kitchen. I waitressed once upon a time. Had I treated customers the way we were treated, I would have been fired. read more

Great service! The food was very unique and well cooked. The breadsticks MIGHT have been the BEST breadsticks I have ever had! The service was very kind, and every dish that was brought out looked great. My advice would be to try to bring out the appetizers a little bit quicker and make the mozzarella sticks a little more cheesy. Over all great thought! read more

My experience at Brickhouse was neither great nor awful. It was extremely basic and perfunctory. Their menu is pretty common place for most mid-level restaurants like TGIFridays and Chilis. Mainly they seem to specialize on baked pastas and pizzas. When we arrived, I almost immediately left. No one has bused about 6-8 tables throughout the restaurant and bar leaving a terribly eye sore. We decided to sit in the bar and had to wait about 10-15 minutes before one of the three servers running around decided to stop by our table. The food we ordered was just ok. Spinach dip was pretty tasty and the pizza we had was eatable. The crust is pretty bland and flavorless, but the toppings seemed fresh enough. Also, they have no beer on tap there. This disappointed me since I like a freshly pulled beer with my pizza but oh well. It was fine for the evening but I won't be going back. read more

I love the Brickhouse. When going there you have to remember that seems to be a bar that also serves food. They have a variety of beer and decent cider for the drinkers in your party. The pizza is awesome and perfect for a day where you just need a cold one. My favorite thing to get there is the Stromboli. There are many options and you can create their own combo. I always end up taking some home. Decently Priced as well. The few time we have been there, there were a decent amount of people and the service might be a bit on the slower side. But for a laid back place, I kinda expected it. If you're around Indianola looking at wineries and doing tastings the Brickhouse Tavern is definitely a place to go to fill up. read more

Aside from it being just bland and tasteless, it looked like kids from grade school decided to make a pizza...there were 3-4 inches of some type of doritos -style chips (at least ) piled high on this thing and I mean all over the entire circumference of the plate it actually had a slope like a mountain or a "mound" haha..I'm guessing there could have easily been 1 full bag? 2 maybe? crushed up? ..clueless really. How could anyone think this would be appetizing or appealing? You could not see anything else on the plate other than these ridiculous chips! They also thought it was a good idea to give you ice cold "condiments" on the side so I guess once you've brushed off the chips then you can squirt that "ice cold sauce" onto it? My understanding from what the server described was that our "sauce" would be "on" the pizza.. ? or are you supposed to squirt that on top of the chips? Whatever. it was a mess! literally! I've probably spent as much time writing this review as "effort" was put into the entire thought process from conception / execution (haha) of that pizza or anything else for that matter on this menu...The beer on draft was OK though read more
