This is unlike any pizza in the area. It tastes very much like how I remember real Italian pizza (from 45 year old memories). There is almost a sweetness to it, but it's not really sweet. It's hard to describe. The crust is very much midwestern thin crust, but it has a fluffier ring. The flavor is very rich, and amazingly complicated for pizza. Great sausage, the cheese is some of the source of the sweetness as good mozzarella should be. We want to go back and try other items on the menu. Win's Norwalk can be described as spartan. Very eclectic menu with pizza, steaks, pasta, and Asian items. We dined with a large extended family as they celebrated a 6-year old's birthday. Ordered 5-Jumbo Shrimp dinner and Cavatelli with Marinara Sauce. When delivered the server said extra shrimp were added because they were smaller than jumbo. They were good but just. Service was great. We went less than an hour before closing & it wasn't busy. Everything was delicious. We started with mozz sticks & onion rings. Almost forgot to take a pic of them! So what's shown is what was left. My girl loved the crust on this pizza. I will say it's very different than your usual pizza crust & it was good! They have a wide variety to choose from on the menu. Winn's is a nice departure from the usual places near me in Valley Junction. My bestie Steven and I love to go and split a medium pepperoni with mushrooms on my half. I love their crust and they don't skimp on cheese. Sometimes they are a little sloppy with mushrooms, but it's always in my favor! It's low-key, clean, with a nice staff of people. It's been a while since we stopped in or got carryout from here. Not because we haven't enjoyed our food previously, we've just had more restaurants come in near us. The evening we came, we arrived around 6:30pm. I think a lot of the dinner crowd had already come and gone as many of the tables were still dirty. There were still people dining but it was maybe 30% full. This place definitely has the "small town" feel as so many people chatted with each other. We had our two kids in tow and everyone was so nice to them and obliged at waving back when they did. That's one of this places strong points, hospitality! Food, I went with my past favorite, the tenderloin sandwich and fries. We got a plain cheeseburger with fries for our daughter and grilled cheese with fries for our son. My husband had the special, the hot beef. Their fries are always good and crisp with a nice seasoning on them. Our daughter ate half her cheeseburger (took the rest home and she finished the next day) and enjoyed it. Our son ate some of his grilled cheese so my husband finished it and said it was great. My husband also enjoyed his hot beef. My tenderloin, for some reason, it just wasn't as good as in the past. I was disappointed that it didn't seem as good and couldn't put my finger on why. Friday night fish special was DELISH! Fried cheese curds we're super yummy! Not our favorite pizza, but not horrible, we just like a bit crispier crust. The salad bar was not huge which pleases me! I hate buffet sized salad bars with too many choices! It was Friday night and they had a birthday party going on, but the ALL staff was GREAT! EVERY STAFF MEMBER THAT WALKED BY GREETED US EVERYTIME! we ordered take out. my friend is regular there. I wanted to order fried chicken, but they were out. I ordered the Italian sausage sandwich instead. order of fries and it came with a salad as well. fries are really skinny, but good. Their salads had a boiled egg, cucumber slices on it. they were premade so couldn't order special, but ok because they were easy to pick off. honey mustard dressing was a pre packaged tub, but ranch and french were in little tubs so they may be homemade? A friend ordered a pizza and it looked great. We ordered by phone and went inside to pay and pick up. Service was friendly, there were quite a few people picking up. hope they can survive Covid 19. Found this place because of Yelp, and it was a big winner. My boss and I were in town to recruit at a high school basketball game and got there early enough to have a good meal. A rule of thumb when I'm recruiting is to try to eat some place I can't eat when I'm home. Love finding great local spots and this one is near the top of the list. It's a little bit hidden - located in a strip mall next to a grocery store - but worth seeking out. I had the pork tenderloin and it was so good. Fresh, hand breaded and great flavor. It came on a bun, but I ate it with a fork and used the bun as a side of toast, which it easily could have been. The fries were thin cut and crispy, just how I like them. My boss got the sirloin medium, and it was all I could do to not ask for a bite (I didn't want to give up any of my pork tenderloin in return so it would have been a tough negotiation. He raved about the flavor. Our waitresses mentioned that the pizza is a popular menu item, and while we didn't order one this time, I saw a couple of them brought out to other tables during our meal that looked awesome! Maybe I'll try that on my next visit. The food was awesome and that alone was worth five stars. But the best part of the night was the service. Our two waitresses were very attentive and the manager who came out a couple of times was friendly and professional as well. Great food, first class service. New to the area and looking for pizza - as always we seek out local restaurants instead of their corporate competition (and most especially above Iowa's preferred gas station pizza options). Winn's is tucked away in a small strip mall off Sunset in Norwalk. During the current covid crisis they are only open for carry-out, which is just dandy with me as they are situated only five minutes from my abode. We ordered a large cheese pizza ($11.99) and a large Hawaiian pizza (Canadian bacon and pineapple @ $12.99) for carryout on a Tuesday evening and we told it would take a reasonable 25 minutes. I arrived 30 minutes later, put on my mask, and entered the establishment. I was greeted warmly by Andrew, and both my pizzas were ready for pickup. Off to a good start! Pizzas were of a reasonable size and appeared to be properly cooked (a little under but nothing outrageous). Pieces are cut into squares instead of wedges, which is not a problem for me but is a point of contention with some pizza snobs. The only major drawback of square cut is the pieces in the middle tend to get pretty soggy and limp (which was the case with the Hawaiian). Plenty of toppings on the Hawaiian (tons of pineapple!) although the cheese pizza, which was the same price as a one-topping pie, was a little light (maybe a sprinkling more cheese in the future?). Both pizzas were still hot and steaming when the lid was opened. My one complaint involves the crust. It's lovely and light and has nice air pockets and a decent bit of crunch on the bottom and edges, but really lacks salt. My wife described the taste like "unsalted crackers", which is decidedly accurate. PLEASE consider adding a bit more salt into your dough (yes, I know it suppresses yeast activity but it also increases deliciousness). My cousin & I decided to come here for the first time for dinner. We were able to sit right away. We ordered drinks, cheese curds, & onion rings for appetizers & a large (14") cheese pizza for the entree. The onion rings were on the thicker size, which I am not the biggest fan of, but these weren't bad. The cheese curds were great! The pizza came out & I must say, I have not had a pizza crust taste so different then any other pizza crust before in awhile. It smelled & tasted like french bread, it was also very light & fluffy dough. Looks like they make it fresh to order, which is awesome. I came here with a buddy of mine on their 2nd day of opening! My buddy informed me they are a very successful and good restaurant in Indianola so we decided to try their new location in Norwalk which I believe is their first expansion. I always enjoy eating at a family owned restaurant because it feels the staff cares about how your experience with their establishment is. The staff members here are all very friendly and seem to be excited to be a part of a newly opened restaurant. There were already a good amount of customers eating here when we arrived, it means they are already established in the neighborhood and will have good business. We started with the eggrolls for the appetizer and we ordered the Aiden's special pizza to share. Because they are a pizza and steakhouse, we decided to try the pizza this time and maybe the steaks next time! The eggrolls were very good, an order comes with 4 delicious eggrolls! The pizza was good as well, the flavors and texture all were good. The manager/owner was very friendly, she came out to see how we were enjoying the food and the restaurant itself. I had a great experience here. The wait staff was attentive and helpful. I ordered the chicken gyro and it came out just about as good as they come. Chicken was not dry, plenty of sauce, and the right amount of lettuce tomato and onion. Being Filipino - I know a good egg roll. I was raised on them. This is a legitimate handmade egg roll. Don't miss your chance on a delicious treat! If I have any criticisms, it's because the fried cod my friend got wasn't very good.. In their defense, he probably shouldn't have ordered cod in central Iowa. Also, the thinner (McDonald's width) fries aren't really my cup of tea, and were not as hot as I'd like them to be. While working in Norwalk, I stopped in for a quick bite for lunch with coworkers. The name implies they specialize in pizza and steak, but the menu would indicate otherwise. There were very few steak options on the menu. Thankfully, I went with only one item in mind, Pizza! I debated between two selections on the menu, but ultimately selected Aiden's Personal Pie which has all of the ingredients of a gyro loaded on top of a pizza crust. Overall, I was very happy with my selection! The gyro meat was well seasoned and the tomatoes and onions were not only fresh, but abundant. My sole complaint would be the size of the onion slices. They were incredibly irregular and some were more than a mouthful, not pleasant. That being said, if in Norwalk, I would go back again. read more
