They were unable to fix it, and the only option was to try and get the right fabric and replace the entire left side of the dress - which a week away from my wedding I did not feel confident doing. They then offered me a paltry compensation, which would have still left me owing them money - despite the fact that they have ruined my wedding dress. Not only this, the owner of the atelier shouted at my on the phone and was so aggressive he made me cry - a horrible man, and a deeply unpleasant experience so close to my wedding. I'm sure they're ok most of the time, but they took no accountability and for any bride out there considering using them for your dress - I would not take the risk.

I called a shop in London which carried my dress designer and they immediately recommended "Designer Alterations" to me, which has recently rebranded to "Design & Alter" and changed locations within Battersea (I've submitted these changes to yelp, so hopefully they'll update it soon). I recommend calling as soon as you can to book as they do fill up fairly quickly. When I called to book my appointment, I was assigned to Marie, and had my first appointment 5 weeks to my wedding date. 5 weeks lead time wasn't necessary in the end! After my first fitting, Marie scheduled my second appointment for just 12 days later, and her work was total magic. My dress fit like a glove, boob cups were added, the hem was raised perfectly, and my mother's veil from the late '70s was updated (late '70s characteristic poof of fabric removed) with care and looked absolutely fantastic. The work was pricey, but then again, so is everything else to do with weddings. That said, I have zero regrets with bringing my dress to Design & Alter. Totally recommend it to any bride.

Especially when it comes to his dark coloured trousers. They have an offer of 5 shirts for 6£, but they now give us the price of 1.2£ a shirt no matter whether we give them in multiples of 5 or not. One of the benefits of being a regular. Service is quick and they pack clothes well on hangers and in plastic. Thy recycle both, so we just return them with the next bag of clothes. They have tailoring, alteration and darning facilities on the premises, but we haven't used them so far. #LiveLifeLikeLDN

I asked for a further alteration. She said she would do this. I recieved a text saying my garment was ready for collection. When I went to fetch the dress she almost barked at me: ' your dress is not ready' after I had recieved a text from her saying it was. I then heard nothing for weeks and had to chase her for progress. When I finally went to collect the garment Carman claimed she had texted me about the cost of the final repair. I had recieved no such text. I showed her my phone showing I had had no text to this effect and she sort of mumbled. Won't use again the alterations were not terrible but the customer service was peculiar and the price on the high side.

After going to really snobby, stuffy and high pressured shops that did not care about my budget or what I really wanted, I cannot say enough good things about this shop. My whole experience was delightful and memorable from start to finish. When I came for my first visit, the girls were really attentive and took time to get to know me. They really took the time to hear my wedding vision. They didn't make me feel pressured to pick and buy a dress, in fact they helped me find that perfect wedding dress. It was in the upcoming season and had to return 6 a few months later. They were very good with staying in touch and letting me know when the new line arrived. When I finally returned to try the new season, the girls were again, amazing in their service. They helped me realise my vision by customising part of my dress that made it perfectly my own. They always made me feel like I was the most important customer and even with my bridesmaids, the staff shared in our wedding fun. Despite all the tweaks and customising, my dress remained within budget. The shop was really good and helped me meet my budget and creating my perfect dress. They were also very good at fitting my appointments around my hectic schedule. They paid attention to every detail and it showed it the quality of my custom pieces and alterations. I highly recommend this shop for the best wedding dress shopping experience. I have left not just as a thoroughly satisfied customer, but I have left feeling like I've made some new friends in these lovely ladies.
