This place is so frustrating because if my girlfriend and I break up, then I'm going to have to travel from the Upper East Side of Manhattan to Point Pleasant, NJ for the sole purpose of getting a haircut (gf's family lives in Ortley Beach). I went to this place as a walk-in because I wanted a change from the person who usually cuts my hair, and I was fed up with how it was looking in hot, humid weather. I was told by the owner (Shain) that I'd have to wait for a bit, and then she got me in her chair about 25 minutes later. I walked out about 25 minutes after that with one of the best haircuts I've ever had. I will definitely be back. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she explained why my hair wasn't right for that cut - then she used her expertise, a hair straightener, and some product to give me EXACTLY what I wanted! I will definitely be back to see Shain. I told her how happy I was and that's when she told me that she doesn't usually cut women's hair. Ha! I walked in for a last minute haircut and they gave me somebody that never ever ever ever ever cut hair. I don't know how a barbershop could do that they had no training and no sense of what to do. I do not recommend this place. read more

You can tell they mean business when they take their time cutting your hair other than your standard barbers.. because these aren't your standard regular ol' barbers. Went there Friday before July 4th weekend around Noon and the place was pretty packed.. there was a waiting list.. or you could choose to make an appointment (which I recommend, to shorten wait time) although I waited, it was well worth it. Barber * Dom * The barber I got gave me probably one of the best haircuts I've had in a very long time. He took his time, he was professional, smooth, and the coolest part is, which I didn't realize.. was that I wasn't facing the mirror when getting the haircut. You actually face other people with the mirror behind you.. and when it's finished?... Viola!.. you get the final result.. Highly recommended for anyone!.. Well this is odd because normally women don't sit in a barber shop. (Mens get away) but here I am sitting in a barber shop while my boyfriend gets his shape up. And its amazing! There are two women barbers currently and a man. You can tell they all know what they're doing. They take their time and the lines are perfect. Recommend any man to come here. Terrible customer service, the place says they take walk ins, when they feel like it. Don't stop and expect to get a hair cut the same day. The guys there wonder around after every cut an if they feel like taking a walk in on Sunday's is like whatever since is not their business. It's a shame the way this business is run on weekends when owners aren't there. The white dude with no beard at all guy name Dom cutting straight behind the counter all the way to the wall a complete dushhhh, acts like is his place disrespectful with customers like his time is more valuable. My low score is due to both times I've taken my son here the apprentice girl messes it up. then she gels it to hide it so her boss won't see it. clever.. the costumer won't have a complaint till later. well here it is... Most if not all places I've ever been to or had to wait at in the business of cutting hair has been less than pleasant for a long time. "Chop shops" are a noisy, crowded mess, with people buzzing around like flys while parents coach on how to do something they've paid another person to do. A salon will reek of product while gossip ricochets back and forth across the room. The people are always different, but each business doesn't seem to look all that different from one another. So what of a barbershop then? When I hear the words "barbershop" I typically think of an old man in a wood paneled shop with the walls covered in portraits of people too old and dead for me to know; the entire experience is dull from beginning to end, but then again I've never really had any sort of fun at a barbershop. That was until I began visiting this one. Instead of hair style portrait books and celebrity news magazines there's a hundred page manual on batman and his equipment. Every time I return there appears to be more and more funny shore-related doodads hanging from odds and ends around the room. The barbers are warm, personable, and unabashed by their radical take on the barbershop experience. By and far what I love most about the establishment is the visible amount of heart and effort that has been put in since the very begining with continued growth. Heck, the place didn't even have a front desk at first and now they've got a sign-in sheet and a card catalog to keep track of the customers, their birthdays, and how they prefer to have their hair cut. When a Facebook page for a business shows an update on my news-feed I typically scroll on by without another thought, but how many make you laugh? I don't expect to see pictures of a customer resembling Zangief with references to street fighter. I find myself often thinking "this is not a barbershop for old men.", but I see old men there as well having just as much fun as I am! It's absolutely ridiculous sometimes and you might think that no business having that good a time with their customers can maintain any sort of professional discipline at the same time. Well guess what? They still give great hair cuts like a bunch of drunken shaolin masters having fun while doing what they've been trained to do at the same time. This place is alive. I'm not really sure what else to say when it comes to writing a review for a barbershop. The place is clean, wait times usually seem non-existent, and the prices are reasonable. Hi You'll be seeing more of me in the weeks to come. I get my head shaved just about every week and have had significant issues finding a decent barber who does it correctly. When I found one shop in Toms River that did a good flat top, they raised the prices considerably and the customer service skills are deplorable. Like, for example, you have a client in the chair and you decide you are going to run next door for coffee! Or the barber shop is standing room only and you as the owner, decide you are taking lunch leaving your employees to no break or lunch and the burden of clearing chairs. Yes, I am extremely picky about my head. My cousin is a salon owner in Beverly Hills so growing up with her I have an idea how I prefer my hair managed. Since moving "down the shore" I've had nothing but negative experiences. I even had one barber who owns a barber shop tell me midway, through the flat top, " I can't do this". I was left with striations in my head and a crooked flat top. I went to Bridge Ave today with much hesitation. They were packed. Many people were getting "Sam Hunt" style hair cuts with the heavy hair glue. Well, who gets flat tops anymore? Cops. Firefighters. EMS. I'm a retired cop and in EMS so there. I sat for Phil. I explained they normally use a norelco to clear the sides and back and he said no problem. Next thing I knew I had a straight edge on my head. I used to go to a guy in Nutley who did straight edge flat tops. He was 89 and died many years ago now. What a great job Phil did too! I was turned around so I couldn't see what he applied to my head but it was cool and soothing. I have no complaints at all. The shop is very organized with a greeter. The motif is perfect for the Point! The people were professional and not cursing or have inappropriate programs on the tv so kids can be there. Just an overall great experience. So thank you. I've been looking for a good barber in the area for a couple of years ever since the Brick Barbershop closed years ago. Unfortunately, most places for a haircut around here seem to have what is generally referred to as a "stylist". And if you're not prepared to pay big bucks, they're usually poor ones at that. So, it's not easy finding a real, honest to goodness, old-fashioned barber, no less a good one. It's been a long road. I've seen most everyone who claims to be a barber in area. And it's been an interesting experience, encountering the mediocre, the inept, and the down-right bizarre. My first criteria, is that they know how to use a straight razor. Now this may seem nitpicky, but that's part of what a barber does, even if one's not looking for that service. I once read an article about the owner of a high-end restaurant, and he said that in interviewing someone for a chef's position, he first asks that person to make an omelet. If they can't make a proper omelet in the classic French tradition, they are out. I've had so called barbers give me some interesting responses when I ask if they use a razor, like telling me it's illegal to use one because it can transmit disease (yea..if it's not sterilized), or saying things like they don't ordinarily use one, but they have a razor on hand and "will try" if I insist (NO THANK YOU!). Well, my quest has finally ended. Chelsea, one of the owners, contacted me after seeing my dissatisfaction with Amato's Hair Studio on Yelp and told me about their services. Chelsea, herself, gave me a GREAT haircut!! Yes, as you may have guessed, ending by trimming with a straight razor!! I've driven past this place many times and can't believe I missed it. This is what a barbershop should be, technically proficient, first come-first serve, and with a genuinely friendly staff, as others have noted. I used to believe that only old Italian guys made great barbers, but Chelsea has proven me wrong. So much for preconceptions. read more

The absolute worst haircut I've gotten in my life. "Maddie" had no grasp of the buzzer settings and just proceeded to deliver a crew cut with a tuft of long hair on the top. I repeatedly advised that my hair is stubborn and can't be cut too close and I don't want to see skin AT ALL. I see nothing but skin on 80% of my head. My bad for allowing her to turn my back to the mirror so I couldn't try to halt the massacre. Barber was quick to load me up with different product as well at the end to masquerade the butchering. The disastrous cut was confirmed quickly when I got home and my wife burst into uncontrollable laughter (joined by my kids) and said "at least your brother's wedding isn't til July 17...maybe that can look somewhat normal by then". I doubt it. Gonna be looking like Max Headroom well after 4th of July. read more

If I could rate 0 stars I would. This was my first time in there and I will never step foot in again. A haircut is suppose to be a fast experience. There was 1 guy working. I didn't mind the few people in front of me and I understood of have to wait a little bit. So after an Hour and a half waiting! He starts taking people that came in after me! I got up and left without getting a haircut. The guy didn't even acknowledge my presence or even noticed that I've been sitting there forever! Do not waste your time on this place. Just brought our 2.5yo in for a much needed haircut. Shain was Amazing. She offered our son a toy and a lollipop and was incredibly patient when he was afraid of the buzzer. Beware guys... I went in today for a skin fade and to get my beard trimmed with a razor shave. First, the haircut wasn't bad except I didn't get a skin fade it was just buzzed down with a pair of edge up clippers. I expected a straight razor and asked twice but whatever I can deal with it. Next was the shave, there was a bit of confusion between the staff on their procedure but whatever long as it turns out good. Not so much. After the shave was over I felt the shave and it was a little stubbly but from a view into the mirror from the chair it looked fine. So I thanked him, payed, and left. When I got to home I looked in the mirror and noticed streaks of hair running up and down the neck the bottom hardly touched and back of neck wasn't done well either. There was even hairs at the tops of my cheeks. Also, my beard was uneven at the ears. I won't be back, I just wanted you know my experience with mike. I can't speak for the rest of them but I won't try them after that. Good luck read more
