We're continuing our trip south to the Tetons, so this was the perfect stop for the night. Quick and easy check in at the front entrance. Our site was 83, which fits a 24ft campervan. We had to use the levelers but no problem. There is a picnic table and fire pit. This site is close to the road, but we didn't mind because we put on the white noise machine to let our toddler sleep better. Showers was a big morale boost. The facility is right outside of the campground, and they give you two free showers. The facility is big and well maintained. There is also a room to do laundry. See the cashier at the laundry room to access the shower section. They will mark your free shower and buzz you in. Site 83 is across from the trash bin. We were not too far from a couple bathrooms. Our site did not have any hookups. Plenty of shade since there are tons of trees. Bear lockers provided and wildlife are definitely around. Close to the general store and Grant lake village restaurant. Would come back here next time!

It's a busy campground, and we were lucky to snag a last-minute reservation about a week out. We stayed in site G221. The campground is well-run: there's shared bear storage (though we opted to keep all food and scented items, including water, in our car), the fire pit was great for evenings, the bathrooms were decent, and the dishwashing room was sufficient for basic cleanup. That said, there are a couple of drawbacks. The campsites are quite close to each other, so there's not much privacy. Also, the shower hours are limited -- open only from about 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. -- which was tough since we were often out before dawn and back after 9. And yes, bears are very much around -- one even came through the G loop during the night while we were there. Despite those few things, I'd definitely recommend Grant if you're looking for a convenient base in Yellowstone

We were able to get reservations through recreation.com for two consecutive nights at Lewis Lake for late Sept, 2024 about a month out -- but they were for two different sites. Location. We visited Grand Teton National Park immediately before coming into Yellowstone (YS) so, being on the southern entrance to YS, Lewis Lake was convenient for our first night in YS. However, we underestimated the size of YS, and Lewis Lake was about an hour or more from other major attractions (Old Faithful, Mammoth, canyons and waterfalls), etc). The campground is at an elevation of 7,800'. It is not lakefront, but the lake and boat ramp were only a short walking distance away. Sites. The campground is intended for vehicles 25' or under. Most of the campers while we were there were in Class B RVs or tents. The sites were quite close together, which encouraged some conversation amongst campers but trees also provided some privacy. Each site had a picnic table, fire ring (but fires weren't allowed), and a bear box. There are shared vault toilets, water spigots, and a trash receptacle. The campground doesn't have showers, a dump station, strong cell signals, nor much open sun for solar panels. Finally, park staff were friendly and efficient, and made sure to ensure that campers were aware of the need to be "bear aware." The campground was quiet. And, it was a great value at $20/night without a reservation fee. Using my husband's NPS Interagency Senior Pass brought the fee down to only $10/night.

Lewis Lake Review We stayed here for two nights in September…read more2020. The check in process is first come first served. You arrive at the campground and grab a reservation slip near the entrance and then drive around looking for an open campsite or a marker that has the current date, meaning someone will be checking out later that day (check out is at 10am). Once you get a spot, fill out the bottom portion of the reservation slip with your car information and other details about the length of your stay. Place the bottom part on the marker and drop off some chairs to visibly reserve the site. Then, drive down to the entrance and fill out the rest of the slip with information and put exact cash in the envelope before dropping it in the mailbox. We arrived close to 8:45am on a Thursday and snagged one of the very last spots. It was a bit stressful if I'm being honest as you see other cars driving around and people running around trying to get a spot before you. We stayed at site A-74 which felt fairly private. The sites include a picnic table, fire pit, and bear box. I wouldn't recommend it if you have a large vehicle as parking was tight at this particular location. Also, the area to pitch your tent was on a slight hill. There are vault toilets nearby and a spigot for potable water close to the end of the A Loop. Note, there is no cell service in this area (which is pretty much true for most of the entire park). It is somewhat a far drive from most of the main attractions in the park, but a good spot if you're coming or going to Grand Teton.

Madison is at the far west area of Yellowstone. The sites were maybe more wide than deep from the…read moreroad. The road was smooth. We were in G. There's a walk to the recycling that you can see Madison River and National Park Mountain. (That's the actual name of the mountain). The big note would be the showers. There's no showers. And then on the entry infor packet if said to go to Canyon was the closest. But mid September the Canyon campground and showers were closed. This was shown in the newspaper but I didn't double check the Madison info packet. Might be good for Yellowstone to update that. They have a dishwashing station. The bathrooms were nice. One sink was out. The bathrooms had a big heater that I awkward stood in to warm up. Sorry to the other people trying to use it. In general I recommend booking multiple camp sites during your whole Yellowstone trip, even if it's more tent set up time, it's less driving time.

However, we weren't all in the same loop, which was pretty inconvenient for a large group traveling together. The campsites themselves were ok. There isn't much privacy between sites. No hookups. Communal bathrooms, no showers. We saw zero wildlife in the campground the entire time we stayed here. The closest campsite to the geysers (30 minutes) and the West Yellowstone entrance (45 minutes) if you don't get stuck in a bison jam!

Just about all sites are walking distance to the river. Lots of mosquitos out at this time so bring your spray and a mosquito tent if you have one. The camp hosts were so nice for the 5 days we stayed. Bathrooms (pit toilets) were constantly cleaned and the park itself is clean. Campsites consist of a picnic table and fire pit. About half of the sites have electric hookups which is an extra $8 a night. Fresh water spigots throughout the park but bring a water bandit! They sell firewood small bundles for $6 and they will deliver it to your site! The only downfall is some highway noise so try to get as close to the river as you can if you don't want that....but for the price it's not that bad.

I remember going there as a pre teen but haven't been back in decades...I brought my partner who has never been here. We're both now in our 50s. I'm not sure what the admission fee is as we have an annual America The Beautiful pass that gets us in to all the National Parks. I didn't see much staff except for the entrance kiosk buildings and the tourist trappy visitor centers. Every once in a while we'd see a ranger vehicle driving around. One actually interposed itself between a large buffalo waltzing down the road and a motorcycle rider it was overly interested in. O.O! The crowd here can be very, very busy. I highly suggest getting here as early as possible - right when they open preferably. It's still busy but gives you a few hours start on the REAL crowd and makes the day much nicer.

On both visits, I stayed two nights in West Yellowstone and one night near Grand Teton National Park, which gave me plenty of time to explore both incredible parks. During my trips, I was fortunate to see grizzly bears, bison, wolves, and countless ravens in their natural habitat. Some of my favorite places included the Grand Prismatic Overlook (Vista Point) Trail, Grand Prismatic Spring, Lower Falls, Upper Falls, Tower Junction, Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone Lake, Old Faithful, Norris Geyser Basin, and many other geysers throughout the park. Every stop offers something unique and breathtaking. Yellowstone is one of the most spectacular national parks in the United States. The combination of abundant wildlife, colorful hot springs, waterfalls, mountains, and geothermal features makes every visit unforgettable. Even after visiting twice, I still can't wait to go back. I highly recommend spending at least three days in the area to experience both Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park.

Lodgepole pine trees permeate the area and offer nice coverage. The sites are good sized, the bathrooms have hot hand dryers for cold days and have large dishwashing stations attached. The "village" is very cute - plenty of shops, a sporting goods store, good restaurant options, a post office, and much more. The prices were great - $5.50 local IPA pints on tap, $2 for a nice bowl of real mashed potatoes and gravy, etc. A short walk to Yellowstone falls, as well as a short drive in any direction to other major attractions. When we were here it snowed but the pines were easy to tie tarps off of. This site drained really well, and so although we had lots of precipitation we stayed very dry. There is firewood by at the camp entrance and they give you hot showers for every day that you're there. Because of the high altitude wood fires don't start that well, so bring some charcoal lighter fluid or something. Highly recommended - we will be back!

BBut it seemed like it was at least 30 minutes to drive to anyplace like Old Faithful so I definitely put miles on the car while there. I was in the portion of the campground that was a mix of a few tents, like mine, and RVs "boondocking". There is a 10 pm curfew, which was welcome because then the RVs had to turn off any generators. There are a few restrooms scattered throughout the campground. There is a building near the entrance of the campground for showers and laundry, but the showers were closed because of COVID. So tent camping for a few days with a lot of hiking was not very pleasant. But this shower policy is not consistent because showers were available at Colter Bay in Teton. Laundry was $2.50/load - but was $3.50/load in Colter Bay. In addition to a service center with some convenience food, there was a restaurant nearby with takeout, but the menu was limited.

Instead of trying to help or offering any reasonable solution, we were told to park at the Yellowstone Visitor Center, where there was no electrical hookup. We've stayed at RV parks all over the country, and even when policies are strict, most managers are willing to work with guests to find a reasonable solution. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here. The lack of flexibility and customer service was disappointing, especially considering the price we paid. We will not be staying here again and will avoid any affiliated properties in the future.
