I love Patrice at Bridge Street Salon! I've been going to her for nearly 5 years and always get a great hair cut, which comes with a caring wash, style, and even a little forehead and earlobe massage. She listens closely to what you want, makes great hair suggestions, and ultimately wants you to feel good. She is a unique combination: in style AND very experienced. She is also a wonderful person to talk with -- she's introspective, contemplative, and full of growth and insight. The salon itself is modern and clean -- it is not tacky like many salons (there are NO big, faded posters of people with 80s hairstyles) , nor is it so ultra-cool that you feel uncomfortable (there is NO loud techno music with every stylist wearing all black). It is simply lovely and relaxing -- near a creek, with big wood and glass doors, nice mellow music, and contemporary design. My visits to Bridge Street Salon are so pleasant. The hair cut is worth every cent, and even worth the drive from Berkeley! Make it a fun day adventure in Marin county! Once, I went to a hair butcher - the kind that cuts your hair and charges you for crap... I was so sad - scared to leave my house with crap hair. I learned my lesson... then... I went to Gessika Ryan at Bridge Street Salon and she gave me one of the BEST cuts I've ever had. She's a WIZ at trimmin' you down to look your best. I was referred to Patrice for a haircut. After exchanging a few texts to work out a possible time she asked me, "Could you send a selfie? Front, side, back if possible." I thought that odd but I complied and sent her 3 pictures of myself. She did not respond so I sent a text "is there anything else you need before setting up an appointment?" Her reply was, " After looking at your photos, your hair style is not what I like to do." Ouch! She never asked what type of hairstyle I wanted, short, long etc., but tried to pass me off to someone who likes to work "with long hair like mine." I remain in disbelief about this exchange, and my interpretations for why she did this are very disturbing to say the least. read more

I am a rabid reader of online reviews, but I hardly ever write any, so let this be a testament to how strongly I feel about Bridge Street Salon. I have been going to Kira for 11 years. Bar none, she is the best stylist I have ever met. She is not only skilled and attentive to what you want your hair to look like, she is awesome for conversation. It's never a boring moment sitting in her chair. In fact, all of the stylists are EXTREMELY friendly -- they are always welcoming anytime anyone walks through the door (as another reviewer said, there isn't a trace of "snootiness" here). Like some of the other reviewers, I have pretty curly hair, so having a stylist who knows what she's doing is important, and Kira is DEFINITELY that stylist. I absolutely adore Bridge Street Salon! So I'm that girl who refuses to let anyone touch her long curly locks for fear of them horribly botching the job. Why, you ask? Because my mop evidently is an enigma that only Rita can manage. I'm rather conservative, but every cut and color that she has done has been stellar. She knows and respects my comfort zone, but shares her wisdom and nudges me in a great direction every time. Due to her fantastic skills, Rita tends to be busy, so get your appointment in advance. However, in a tight spot she has always made sure that I am taken care of. Did I mention that she is the sweetest, most gentle, and fun woman to talk to for those long bouts in the chair? I stumbled upon this salon and Linda just looking for some product. Linda suggested I come in and let her see my hair so she could tell me what product I needed. She ended up spending an hour washing and styling my hair - for free! I have been going to her ever since. She is a very thoughtful stylist and so sweet. I've been going to Linda Semorile at Bridge Street Salon for several years. She does a great job with my very curly, (can be) frizzy hair. She is a Deva Curl specialist and cuts dry, then washes and styles to make sure all my curls are responding accordingly. She has also introduced me to several of the Deva products and helped me find just the right product cocktail. The salon is warm, friendly and low key. The atmosphere is quite the opposite of a NY or SF fancy salon. I will keep going and highly recommend giving her a try. read more

I have curly hair and have always wanted a certain look with ringlets that no one else has ever been able to create. I rarely write reviews but have to give a shout out to Rita. I have very difficult long thick curly hair. I was extremely nervous going into see Rita because of so many horrible experiences. Rita's calm personality immediately soothed my nerves and she REALLY LISTENED to what I had to say. We talked for a long time and I told her what worked in the past and what didn't. First time, she was conservative on the cut and I came back a week later to have her adjust it just a little more. Now she is my girl! Furthermore, I recently started having her do my regular color as well and she first did a test patch. I have a sensitive scalp and she used a very gentle oil-based (non-smelly) dye which covered my resistant grey and this way we were sure the color was perfect before doing my whole head. I have gone to some very high end salons (I think another review mentioned Madu, at which I had a horrible experience), but I honestly believe the care I get from Rita is far superior without any of the superior attitude. I wouldn't hesitate to send any hair type to her (and I have). Highly recommended. read more

Linda has been meeting my needs for nearly a year. The Deva products and her expertise have completely improved my relationship with my hair. I want to counter Downer Dara's and Angry Anya'a comments. We curly hair clients need our hair cut but creative and intuitive individuals, such as Linda, who have spent TIME listening to our concerns and desires. I do not someone who cuts like a robot - the Devachan way, rather I want an experienced and artistic person who cuts my hair the way it NEEDS to be cut. I don't want a "cookie-cutter" stylist. Her toy chihuahua brings joy to all the regular clients. I feel like I'm visiting a friend each time I go. She is genuine, sincere, and is satisfied only when the client is satisfied. I'm sure the negative comments stung her, but as mom always told me "consider the source", and in this case the sources seem to be a sarcastic dog hater and someone who would rather be in SF or NYC if only they had time and money. read more

I've had my hair cut at Bridge Street Salon three times now, and every single time my already high expectations have been met and succeeded by Rita's amazing skill and service. I regret having waited only until now to write a review for Bridge Street, as it is simply one of the best Hair Salons out there. The location can be a little tricky to find, but it is well worth the small effort involved in finding it. Though I have no experience with the other hairstylists at Bridge Street, Rita is an extremely friendly, upbeat, and hospitable person. Each time I go, she gives me a rocking temple/scalp massage as she washes my hair, making me feel very relaxed and patient from the start. I'll admit: the first time I went, I didn't know exactly how I wanted my hair to be cut. With a few questions, however, Rita was able to give me the best haircut I've ever had. I stumbled upon this salon while walking my son's dog in the neighborhood. I was actually going to the salon across the street but was looking for a change. Then I took a look at the website and noticed that Patrice was from the same state/metro area where I was born and lived most of my life. This felt like a connection and so, I made an appointment with Patrice and we talked about my hair and what I was looking to achieve. I liked this approach. She actually wanted to meet me in advance and look at my hair, ask questions and make recommendations. I made an appointment for the following week for a cut. I liked the cut but I knew that I still wanted something a little different, not just a trim next time. For the next appointment, we did a highlight and a lob cut. Loved both! Patrice really is an architect when it comes to hair. She's professional, thoughtful, interested in your lifestyle and how much time and energy you want to spend making your hair look its best. I appreciated her thoughts and candor and I ended up with a cut I love and an easy style that I can do different things with, depending on the occasion. Prices are not outrageous like some of the salons in the area and are, in my opinion, quite reasonable. She's also on time. I also like some of their products, which I haven't seen before. Reasonably priced and work well. Happy I found Bridge Street Salon and Patrice. Give them a try! They are in a great location in beautiful downtown San Anselmo, near the bus stop across from the old Andronicos (Now Safeway Community Market), and next to Sushi 69 (I love both of those places too, but those are separate reviews for another time). rita is fantastic! the salon is clean, nice, cute and mellow which i loved. not snooty and up tight. i have VERY curly hair that i wear straight, and is rarely cut properly the first time around with a new hair stylist. i usually leave a salon in tears because the stylist just does what ever they want. rita listened to exactly what i wanted done. she kept an on going conversation about what she was doing thoughout my appointment. i left with exactly what i wanted, and soooo happy! the organic sulfate free products where an added plus! read more

Patrice listens, advises, synthesizes, and executes better than anyone who has ever done my hair. She is the one I felt comfortable with gradually going to my all gray hair... and the hair style is perfect for me and makes me feel good about my all gray hair. My son has very thick hair and he wanted to transition from a buzz cut into a young man look. I work in San Anselmo, just down the street. If I do not feel like riding my bike home I wait for the bus. I have seen few people in this salon and when I catch a glimpse of someone leaving their hairstyles are never that extraordinary. I had a 5 bill and needed to get change for the bus. I figured I could walk in and ask, while taking a glimpse at how clean the place is, what products they carry, and how nice the employees are. There was an older woman at the receptionist desk with light hair(grey with poor hi lights). She was on a casual phone call and there was a customer receiving dye. The sign in front of me said cash or check. I figure this is a good sign that they have change. I asked for some ones, at which point this older lady gives me a dirty look and responds that they don't give change. I walked out and said"that seems a little snooty, you won't be getting my business." and closed the door. I turned around and this woman was giving me the bird with disgusting disdain. I reacted, shocked, by touching my chest. She then proceeded to point at me while mouthing F*** You, several times. When I walked closer to the door and informed this woman, who is twice my age, that she was behaving as a child she locked the door. She continued to mouth F***You and flip me off and then said that she would call the cops on me. I was neither slandering her, the business, or threatening. I had no reason to yell so didn't. Slander is a very serious offense in the world consumer/producer. I will not enter an establishment that encourages unnecessary profanity. These people terrify me! They have no compassion! I only hope that whatever has plagued this woman so badly will leave so that she can learn how to treat a human being with feelings. I strongly urge that no one supports this negative environment. read more
