My husband went on tour for a year to S. Korea and my toddler was having a particularly difficult time. Once he started at SMS, we noticed such positive response from him. The teachers clearly care about each individual child--not only in school but in their home life. When I had asked if there were any books the school recommended for children with a family member going through deployment, they researched and sent me many different options to help with my child's emotional well being. The Montessori method of teaching coupled with the staff at Sandwich Montessori has given my child the knowledge and confidence to face our ever changing lifestyle. The teachers at all levels are nurturing while allowing each child to individually (at their own pace) reach and/or exceed their potential. Especially notable is the arts program and the extended theater program which allows children to perform in plays providing them the confidence to speak in public. The enrichment classes allow preschoolers to practice being on stage, elementary students to join various sports activities, and kindergartners through middle schoolers to join larger productions (such as Annie and Seussical). My children have graduated college, but still fondly remember their Bay Farm experiences.

It felt like we started from the beginning each time, his strengths, interests, and protective factors were not integrated into his care. He then transitioned into the tree classroom where they had extreme lack of transparency with us. Once he was in the tree classroom for a few months they notified us of disruptive behavior, and we called for a meeting. A plan was made to improve his attention and increasing independence during activities. At parent teacher conferences weeks later it was brought to our attention that our son was not a "good fit" and suggested looking elsewhere though he was diligently working with a specialized teacher who reported progress in all these areas. We felt blind sided and overall disappointed. My son no longer attends and has not shown any of the behaviors from being in the tree room. I hope this is helpful. - Bret
