do not allow your loved one to be admitted here!!! my father was admitted on a friday after 2 pm. drs did not even evaluate him until monday and he died on tuesday!! they did not follow the dnr and made my father suffer !! he died because they did not follow the previous doctors orders! facility is horribly unsanitary! there are species on the wall faces on the bed toilets are not clean. you hear patient screaming for help crying for water crying because they're hungry. how does a place like this even pass state regulations? the photos on their website are not accurate whatsoever the day that i arrived there was people smoking and doing drugs right outside their door! read more

I would recommend this place! BUT you have to be on top of certain things and study the behavior of workers who are involved with your loved one. No facility is perfect; I understand, but there were times where my loved one have fluid in her lungs and was breathing very hard ... we asked one of the workers and they said she's just excited you're here when really she was going through "a health emergency". I called 911 and that's how we found out there was fluid in the lungs. There are lots of great people here though... just be careful and observant on how some treat your loved ones. read more

Every single time I call this facility, the phone rings and rings close to 1-2minutes and no one picks up. No voicemail either so I can't leave a message. In the rare times they do pick up the call they greet you by saying "Please hold", and after waiting for close to 5min they hang up the call. So I call again. They repeat the exact same pattern, click! Front desk is very unprofessional. They are rude and are sassy when I try to explain that no one picks up after they transfer the call. Very frustrating. It truly saddens me that when you call to take care of serious business that the nurses who answer the phone gives you the run around to speak with case workers and or social workers. You really want me to belive that no one who works in the office has a phone let alone a messaging system where messages can be left. That is not professional or safe and it breaks all kind of HIPPA law! The 5 star rating is not nearly enough to convey about the genuine service, support with resources and the one task other medical facilities have forgotten.. "amazing bed side manners". My client was transferred to Brier Oak to finish his treatment. He is not one to stay put in the hospital but because of the care and common courtesy of all members of staff he stayed , got well and came home. Their director of patient services, Antonio is full of knowledge, resources, compassion, & empathy. I appreciated the way he spoke to my client and the full attention he always gave him. I welcomed his experience in the field and is suburb customer service not only to the patient but to the whole family. My mom stayed there for almost 3 months and they did a great job! A nursing facility can be scary with covid, but since their outbreak last year, Brier Oak tests both staff and residents twice a week and have strict covid protocols. Despite not being able to make visits the first 2 months because of covid protocols, Brier Oak's great staff was able to do twice weekly video call for my mom. I was also provided updates from their staff of experts regarding her care, diet, and different therapies. Extra special thanks to Jessica and Ingrid who went out of their way with the weekly video calls and an extra special thanks to social worker Tony Aguilar for providing the special care updates and the great help discharging her from their facility and setting up the in-home care! My Mom was recently brought to this facility and as some elderly people do is (complain) about everything. The Administrators took time to host a conference call with me: (Daughter & Husband) to see what could be done to rectify some of the issues. This is the second facility my Mothers has been placed. I must say, I appreciate the time the staff has taking out of their busy schedules to do what (was/is) needed. To make sure my Mom is comfortable and satisfied. My brother was admitted to Brier Oak on Sunset on December 20th. I still have not been able to visit due to the recent covid outbreak which I understand. I want to give a shout out to Antonio Aguilar who runs the social services department. He has been responsive and so helpful from our first meeting at the facility. He understands and goes out of his way to help answer questions and provide information. Without him, I don't know what I would do. Everyone I have come in contact with has been very nice. I would like to see more help in the face time videos since we cannot visit. Having them on the weekend would be really helpful. read more

Background: My 84 year old grandma fell and fractured her hip and shoulder in April. She was admitted to a hospital to do surgery. 2 weeks after the surgery she was transferred to another hospital for rehab where she stayed there for another 2 weeks. During this time, it was really hard for my family as hospital did not allow any visitors anymore. During her 3rd week at the hospital she started running a fever. That's when we learned she caught covid sometime during her stay either at the 1st or 2nd hospital. She stayed at the 2nd hospital for another week and we were told she is stable enough and has to be discharged. However , she was still testing positive. We could not take her home and isolate her safely as we live with our 90 year old grandpa. After the hip fracture, she was no longer independent and would need a lot of care since she's bedridden. We couldn't have taken care of her safely at home. The only option was sending her to a nursing home. Brier oak was the only nursing home accepting COVID patients at the time. Let me start out with saying prior to sending her there, I had many worries because I heard a lot of bad things about nursing homes and of course reading the reviews didn't help either. However, my worries were eased by the amazing people there who go above and beyond to help my grandma. Phil has been amazing at helping my family. I remember one time he went above and beyond for us when I texted him to see if we can FaceTime my grandma. I did not know he was was off that day, but he replied and told me he's off today but will arrange that for me. He sure did and checked in later on the day to make sure I got to talk to my grandma. Talking to my grandma is crucial as she has dementia. She often wakes up scared not knowing why she's there or what's going on. Because of the amazing people there, we were able to FaceTime her and tell her to keep fighting. Jessica (from activities) is amazing also. She goes above and beyond for my family and grandma. She's been a great support system for my family. I want to thank all nurses and CNAs who took great care of my grandma. She finally beat COVID at the end of June and and she's finally home! She stayed at the nursing home for 5 weeks. Although she is bedridden, she did not develop any bed sores there. I do have to say that it is quite hard to get a hold of the nurse. I would have to call a couple of times before the nurse is available to talk. At times I would call (6pm- 8pm) and no one picks up. It can get really frustrating, but I try to keep in mind that they're probably very busy. Whenever I call in the morning to afternoon, it's easier to get a hold of the nurse. All the nurses I've talked were nice and helpful. read more

It's not the fanciest place, but the staff at Brier Oak are very compassionate and helpful, and to me the people matter more than the place. Folks that are directly responsible for my mom's care make themselves directly accessible to me. It's easy to request regular meetings with the entire care team to get a quick and comprehensive update. And whenever I reach out for special assistance, they always go above and beyond what you would expect: not just medical care, but going as far as personally assisting with personal matters. Medication management has always been a big concern for me and my mom. I've never seen my mom more stable than in the past few months since she's been in their care. The rooms stood out the most because they were all renovated . They have a huge rehab room . Staff is helpful . The only thing I would change is the carpet in the halls . This place is awful my mom was placed here after having major surgery. She said her experience was horrible the nurses took forever to come in the room that she by the way shared with two other people that wasn't even 6 feet apart. Some have complained about pain or not feeling good and they do not do anything about it, almost every day the ambulance is called due to something happening to a patient. I was here off at spinal cord I jury worst svc ever. I advise if u have a family member to take out and care for them if u can. Thank you for saving my brothers life! After the horrible care my brother got at Saint Joseph hospital for knee replacement he ended up with a massive infection. They wanted to send him home, but Brier Oak took him on a holiday weekend. Thank goodness his fever that night was 104. The staff was great! Took such good care of him our family felt he was safer there then any hospital. 3 IV antibiotics and 3 weeks later he was strong enough to come home. THANK YOU AGAIN. read more
