Ok so I'm finally going to share my experience with you all. My mom was in their care for just a couple of months. They won't work with you if you have Kaiser Permanente Insurance so we had to switch to Cigna. They transferred my mom to Culver City Hospital after I was told she would go to Cedars-Sinai for a few days to be evaluated. Do Not let them send your loved one to Culver City Hospital ever! My mom was starting to walk with her walker before they sent her there and now she still can't walk. She had a broken ankle from a fall but was 100% healed. Physical therapy at North Valley Nursing were the only one's caring and listening to my mom. They don't record or track the patients bowel movements from constipated to diarrhea, their pain or pain when urinating and they don't track when they aren't eating. The business office asked why I didn't come to them with my concerns...what the F! Why didn't your staff pay attention and say anything to the Head Nurse for my mom! Oh, I know why...because even when I expressed to the Head Nurse that I thought mom had "another" UTI she did contact the Dr. like I asked but just told me thy were giving her Imdiom for her diarrhea. Within 4 days I get a call that they have called 911 and are sending her to the ER, she's not eating, drinking and can't speak. They even told me the wrong Hospital that the ambulance was taking her to. We visited my mom about 5 days a week as my parents live in Sunland. I hope to God that Nurse isn't still employed there. She would never look up or engage me. It was like she just wanted me to walk away. Honestly this place was recommended to us but I'm telling you be careful. My mom was severely dehydrated and in kidney failure with a bad UTI. She spent 6 days in the hospital and was more alert and herself then when she was at North Valley Nursing. Trust me when I say I have seriously thought of reporting this place. I could continue with more but I hope this gives you an idea of how poorly they cared for her. Physical Therapy cared about my mom and would always update me, love them but the people who spend the most time with our loved one's need to pay better attention to them. I can honestly say at the new facility my mom has had no UTI's or health issues. Good luck if you use this Nursing Facility. read more

North valley nursing center took amazing care of my father :) he was 56 and was in the icu for a month and a half before getting transferred here for physical rehabilitation along side getting reoriented and adjusted to every day activities! They took such great care of him and he only had amazing things to say and so do we and my family! Amanda specifically took us under her wing and helped us out so much and walked us through everything we needed! read more

The North Valley Nursing Center needs a few upgrades to get my rating. The care is good but you are not able to contact your loved ones on a regular basis. There are no individual phones at every bed and there are long holds to get in touch with your loved ones. If I can get through at all, is a miracle. They don't have a good Wi-Fi system either. I could barely get a signal and it was so weak that I couldn't show my friend the kind of walker I wanted for him. The food is good and care is good but, rooms are too crowded. My friend has 3 people in his room and it's very small. Parking is at a minimum and I don't feel safe on the street. If they improved these things, this facility could be much better. Hopefully, someone reads the reviews that could have an effect on these situations. read more

My mom had brain surgery and was transported here from the hospital at 11pm the night before thanksgiving. I woke up to a voicemail from her saying "get me out of here". After 8hrs, she had not been given any water or medicine. I took her out of there around noon on Thanksgiving because this is not a place to heal or recover. There were 4 Covid cases in the facility, she was sharing a room, and the energy was chaotic. It was dark, dirty and very depressing. This is my warning do not let your loved ones stay here. I took my mom back to Sunrise, her assisted living community and it was a night and day difference between the level of care. read more

My mother has been at this facility since August. I have to admit I was skeptical because we had a horrible experience at another nursing home. But Amanda, Mayra, Wendy, Natalie, Melissa, Monique, April, and all the CNAs especially Andrew are all wonderful. They are very responsive to my every request. They always work with me to resolve any issues. My mother looks happy and is well cared for. This is not an easy line of work but the staff does their job effortlessly .I am so grateful that I found this facility. The facility is always clean. There are patients whose dementia makes them aggressive, unfortunately. They cannot control their behavior, but they do a good job of monitoring them and moving them if need be. I am not a relative of anyone that works there. My mother has been there since August. read more

North Valley is the best; friendly, caring, professional staff has made all the difference for my friend. She has been at North Valley for about 5 months and her condition has greatly improved. Unfortunately, North Valley is closing its sub-acute section. Now she has to transfer to another facility. I wish it were not so. If the system would accept 5+++, that would be my rating. I wrote an earlier review of this establishment in February of this year and gave it 2 stars and was talked into raising it to 4 stars by staff members, but now after being a patient here for 10 months I am re-reviewing NVNC from my experiences. Please note that all the "sterling" reviews listed here are generally from relatives or friends of patients, NOT people who live here, I have been an inmate/patient here since 11.05.2019 and what I have to say I am relating from actual personal experience 24/7 at this undesirable facility. 1. Nursing: There is great nursing staff turn over rate here which is a telltale sign of bad management and low pay. Daily treatments are often not given more that 3-4 times a week. My insulin shots are often prepared in wrong doses, I recieve a set amount of insulin plus a sliding scale according to my glucose levels and yet MANY times nurses have tried to administer either the set dosage without the sliding scale or just the sliding scale minus the set dosage. Often when I am administered my medication regiment the attending nurse needs to be reminded that I also need an insulin shot - one nurse argued with me that I did not require a shot until a second nurse pointed out to her that my shot was clearly prescibed in the medication logbook. There even was an incident where a nurse "forgot" my nightly shot, but falsely recorded in the treatment log that he had administered the injection! On one ocassion a nurse tried to administer pills to my roommate and because the patient spoken only Spanish and the nurse did not speak any Spanish I had to step in when the nurse called the patient by the WRONG name...my roommate did not require any pills and the nurse was trying to give him someone else's pills!!! 2. The doctor assigned to me by NVNC was utterly incapable of properly treating my diabetes and my daily glucose levels were between 300 and 450 - my vision is still slightly blurry thanks to his incompetence, and thanks to the ineffective aministration of NYNC it took me almost 3 months to change doctors...then their first suggestion was that I select the business partner of the original incompetent doctor! 3. Food Services: Let me start off with this factual statement, for 5 years I was the Chaplain at a Maximum Security Jail in NYC and the food served to our inmates was better tasting and of a higher quality that what is served at NVNC! In my ten months they have gone through 3 or 4 dietary managers and the quality of the menu has declined as time passes. As a diabetic I am served high carbohydrate foods at every meal. Pasta, rice, potatoes, breads (all high carb, but low cost foods) plus often I am served (but don't eat) sweet rolls, sugar pudding, pies and canned fruit in heavy syrup. Fresh fruit is sometimes served, like grapes, melon and bananas, all high carbs. Sometimes they are unripe or in the case of bananas actually nearly rotten with blacken peels. The taste of the meals is usually, but not always horrid. It is hit or miss with them missing the mark most of the time! 4. Population: Many patients here are mentally ill and scream on regular intervals and sometimes all night long! They have threatened Nurses' Aides and even other patients, there is NO seperation between such patients and the general population. One former patient walked the halls with his pants and shorts below his knees exposing himself totally. When asked to cover himself, he shouted in the hallway "When I was younger I molested little kids, do think I care if anyone sees my penis?" He was here for months before being transfered elsewhere! When people, or the State Inspectors visit things dramatically improve, but return to a steady decline when such persons leave. I am 60 years old and no matter how much longer I live the experience of being at NVNC will be a permenant scar on my psyche. read more

I am entering my 4th month here at North Valley after having spent months at two other facilities, this facility ranks second of the three. The nursing care here is decent, the biggest flaw I find here is that often DAILY treatments are usually given every other day or for as long as 3-4 days apart. The Physical Therapy Department is excellent with Richard (Occupational) and Lisa (Physical) being top notch. You may find yourself at a considerable disadvantage if you do not speak spanish or fillipino since most staff speaks English, but prefers NOT to. One example of the problem this presents is when I tried to ask a CNA to get the Charge Nurse when I awoke to discover my leg was severely swollen, she did not understand me and instead of binging the nurse, she brought me a pair of socks...God help me if instead of a swelling I had had chest pains. The food here is definitely not to my taste, but adequate and the noise level is equivalent to that of Time Square during the New Years Eve celebration. REM sleep just does NOT happen here - noise 24/7!!! I have to give the administration a great deal of credit for their concern over complaints and their efforts to address them! read more

Facility saved my brother in law life. We were provided with many facetime visits and got my brother in law in a state to where he is able to eat and ambulate which he was not able to before. The staff are understanding and caring. read more

I toured the facility yesterday and I must say I was impressed. The staff greeted me quite warmly. It felt like a small rehab facility rather than the mid-size one that it is. I kinda had the sense of hospital-level attention to education but still a homey environment. For example, as I toured I saw multiple bulletin boards devoted to education and learning...they had info on all kinds of rehab issues, a lot of info on disaster preparedness, and even these cool posters helping them stay aware of the warning signs of strokes. The rehab room was big and there were a lot of cool pieces of specialized equipment but then they also showed me all of these familiar things to get people back used to doing things for themselves at home. Some other little things struck me too. There was a person going around with an "activities cart" that was decorated in a fun way...she was going into rooms and hanging out with patients who didn't want to leave their rooms. Then in the middle of my visit they did a "happy feet" tour which was someone leading several patients, some walking with staff and some in wheelchairs, around the building, with loud, upbeat music and they were looking in on the different rooms waving to people and cheering. I thought that was awesome. In general there seemed to be a real sense of pride in the building...like the staff knows they are part of something special. How often do you enter a business and feel that?? Very cool place. Who wants to be in a rehab facility rather than home?? Probably nobody, but if you're needing such a facility, I can totally recommend this one. read more

My Father Vinit Chotirawi was here for 2 and 1/2 years until he passed. When I first saw the place from the outside; I thought GHETTO and oh no! what have I done since I made the arrangements from Fresno. After the first week until the very end it was the best decision I ever made. The nurses are beyond caring.. He never had to wait to be changed and he always felt cared for when our family was not there. The staff is unbelievable. I barely heard anyone of the patients screaming for help or care because someone was always there with them. They inform me of every single change for my dad's orders. I especially appreciate Nancy who mostly cared for my dad and Madeline. To every single person that helped my father: all the CNA's, nurses, administrators.. I will forever be grateful. When I toured this facility, Shirley at the front t greeted me with a great smile. I have known her for almost ten years and she is the friendliest admissions coordinator you will meet. The building was clean and smelled good and I happened to see a physician that I often go to and love. North Valley Nursing Center is the only convalescence that I will send a loved one or recommend a patient to recover at. i run an agency that provides caregivers to patients so therefore I have dealt with a lot of similar establishments like this one and know what I am talking about. many of my clients have stayed there for long period of time and few of them had been back few times for different injuries and incidents. They will only go back to North Valley Nursing Center because they provide the best care. Their PT/OT department is known to be the best. This facility can be compared to a nice hotel. My grandmother had a stroke last month, and she had to go to a rehab center to continue her therapy. We toured a couple of facilities but chose North Valley and we couldn't be happier. The facility is very clean and their staff are very friendly and attentive. Also my grandmother is seen by her doctor once a week which helps her with her recovery. My grandmother is doing great and we are going to take her home soon. First let me say there are no perfect SNF units here in Southern California, but in my book North Valley comes very close! My husband has been here since March 13th. The first snf he was in sent him back to kaiser 3 times in a 37 day span, North Valley has not sent him back once. The nursing staff here is exemplary. They know their stuff! They take pride in their work and their job and that shows every single day! Thank you Sheryl, Nancy, Rochelle, Cathy, Gabby Ester, and of course Marlene and to the other nurse I can't remember your names thank you so much. To the CNA's Angelica, Maria, Arman, Edgardo and all the other CNA's that took care of my husband as if he were their own family member thank you, you gave me a sense of security that I didn't always have to worry thank you! To all the custodians who took care of the room and kept it clean thank you. To the laundry person Kevin, thank you for always making sure I was ok. The people at North Valley are one of the most caring, loving and giving people I have met. They treat all their patients like their own and they make sure they provide not only care but also entertainment for their patients. They have great visiting hrs and patio area where you can spend time with your loved one. The building is remodeled and very clean. Most nursing homes I went to prior to this one smelled really bad where I wanted to run out. However North Valley is very clean and smells fresh. The doctors that are associate are also top of the line and highly skilled. I also love the fact that everyone is so diverse there and the staff can speak the language your loved one prefers. All in all I would recommend North Valley to my friends and family. read more

Nurses were knowledgeable enough to take care of their patients, never in a hussle. Explained every medication the way doctors should tell. Discharge paperwork explained well. Felt all staff cared and loved for the patient. Caring, pleasant staff, especially the administrator who helps the staff and the patient knowledgable to do thier share of work. And they always wear a smile that will make everyone, patient or family member, feel comfortable with the nursing home. They really demonstrate the meaning of a true home, love and family. read more

I don't know how this facility has managed to get so many 4 and 5 reviews. Maybe it's because they cater to the elderly and that age bracket doesn't know better or have anyone to advocate for them. This facility is absolutely horrible. They have lied on numerous occasions telling me that services have been denied when if fact they have never even attempted to submit them. I guess once they received payment from medi-cal for the bed they could care less if my husband received the proper therapy through our private insurance. I have waited over a month for social security paperwork to be filled out by their "doctor". In the meantime my kids and i are about to lose our apartment because we need that money and cannot get it without the drs statement. When they finally did get it they now sent it to the WRONG office so who knows when my office and case worker will receive or IF they will even receive it!!! Guess North Valley won't mind when my kids and I and pets come and sleep in my husbands closet because we have no where else to go due to their drs incompetence. My husbands clothing has gone missing and he is constantly wearing clothes that don't belong to him despite me constantly bringing in LABELLED clothing. I would have never chose this facility if I knew what a joke it was. My insurance company refuses to even speak to them anymore because they are all so incompetent and lie on a regular basis. If you care about your loved ones DO NOT send them here. The social worker is a complete joke. They do not communicate with you and allow incompetent patients to make their own decisions without informing the next of kin. Staff is too busy smoking outside, having parties, eating and talking to actually do their job. Don't ever call and expect a return call because that doesn't happen. That's if you can even get someone on the phone. Half the time it just rings or you get someone who doesn't understand English. So glad to be done with this disaster read more

It is a difficult transition to have to place a loved one in the care of others, but rest assured that the care provided at North Valley surpasses that which one can provide to a loved one in the comfort of their own home. Having first hand experience with placing our grandmother at North Valley I can vouch for this facility's utmost professionalism and quality of care. Everyone from the Administrator, Director of Nursing, to the staff as a whole know what they are doing and do it with a fervent passion and commitment to excellence by always putting the patient first! The facility is always kept clean, the equipment and resources are topnotch, and the staff is not only great at what they do but warm, genuine, and kind. North Valley helped our family during our most difficult days. When caring for our grandmother at home proved to be a challenge beyond our capacity to adequately do so, it became ever more clear that we would need to find placement for her in a professional facility. The decision was tough, but after moments of arrival our family took a deep breath in the comfort of knowing that it was the best decision possible. The entire nursing and aide staff treated our grandmother with the dignity and respect that she deserved, as though she was their own. It's difficult to write these words after having lost a loved one, but we collectively wanted to honor and respect the entire team at North Valley, for being a shining light in our darkest hours.
