She takes the time to understand each child's personality, make them feel comfortable, and encourage them to learn and participate. My son has absolutely THRIVED in her classroom, and it has been amazing to see his confidence, happiness, and excitement about school grow. Chef Kay also deserves recognition! My son is a very picky eater, so I'm always impressed when he comes home excited about something he ate at school. Chef Kay prepares meals that my son actually enjoys, which means so much to me as a parent. Knowing that he is being offered meals he likes and is willing to eat makes me feel much more comfortable while he's at school. I also want to share something from our experience because I believe parents should always pay attention to their child's behavior and communication. When my son first started on the infant side with Mrs. Amaya, we unfortunately did not have the same positive connection. My son would come home saying that she was mean and that she didn't like him. At first, I tried to understand that children can sometimes interpret situations differently. However, I also noticed that the energy changed, particularly when she stopped speaking to or acknowledging my child. His doctor once explained to me that children are more likely to participate, engage, and be attentive when they feel comfortable and safe with their teacher. Looking back, I believe that may have been part of why my son didn't really connect in that classroom, while he has completely THRIVED with other teachers. As a parent, I truly believe in listening to your child while also observing the adults who are caring for them. I pay attention to how staff interact with my child, how they communicate with the children, and how they treat other children when they think parents aren't watching. It's important to me to know that anyone caring for my son is patient, respectful, nurturing, and genuinely engaged. And I also Try to attend majority of the field trips. Overall, I am extremely grateful for the positive experience my son has had in Mrs. Draper's classroom. The difference in his happiness and development speaks volumes. Mrs. Draper, thank you for loving, teaching, encouraging, and nurturing my baby. My daughter attended Rising Stars Academy for almost 3 years. It came to an abrupt end over the summer after she was pushed into a door, and I was not notified of the injury until I reached out to the site director directly. Leadership (i.e., Mr. Darren) is sassy, passive-aggressive, and very condescending. Thankfully, you only have to deal with his long, rambling speeches a few times out of the year. The staff there is spread thin (turnover is extremely high). Overall, I don't regret the money I spent on my daughter's education while at Rising Stars Academy. However, I want to warn parents that this is a school that is reminiscent of the projects. Faulty or even nonexistent playground equipment. Mosquito infestations. Peeling paint. Dark and dingy bathrooms. We stayed as long as we did because of the teachers. There were teachers there who really cared about my daughter, and she had positive experiences that made the good worth balancing out the bad for a long time. However, after she was hurt and I was not notified, the negative started to outweigh the good, and ultimately, that was enough for us to leave. Proceed with caution.

The first week they allowed me to be the annoying mom calling every hour to check on him and they had no problem. Every time I pick up my son he's smiling and happy. When I drop him off he always smiles at his teachers and is very happy to see them. That makes me feel so trusting of this daycare because kids will let you know even before they can speak. My son is in Miss Waldy's class and he loves her along with his other teachers. I love this daycare and would send all of my children here if I continued to have any more!!! I toured many different schools throughout my son's time in preschool and this has been one of the most diverse that I've seen. My son's teacher is Ms Ingrid and she is very kind and thoughtful. It's been really sweet watching my son learning and taking interest in Spanish even though we do not speak Spanish at home. Also the owner, Ms Brittie is very involved and very quick to respond to parents. Overall, I feel that there is a lot of thought and intentionality put into the way that the school was designed and runs. research based and geared towards celebrating each child's individuality while still helping them develop, socially and academically. :)

He is the youngest in the family so it was his very first experience with making friends and he looked forward to going every day. I like how the day care exposes them to music and art related activities because it does instill confidence in them to express themselves and that is so important in today's world. The staff at South…read moreBay CDC were very helpful in getting our son into the program & the hours they are open were great. Unfortunately this school was not the best place for him. The curriculum is centered around learning through play and is not very structure based. In addition there is no real system of discipline, which is something our son needs. He is very bright but also very active . Instead of implementing discipline the teachers encourage the children to go to another area and remove them from the activity or area they are having trouble in. Another means of discipline was sending our son to sit in the front office. In addition to the lack of disciplinary structure we also found that our son had trouble connecting with some of the other children whose first language was not English . He was the only African American boy in his class, with only one other African American boy at the entire school. While we as parents felt comfortable with our child around any racial group it became apparent that he was at a disadvantage for not being in a multicultural environment. The environment & lack of structure was not best for our son and he began acting out & doing things that boys do such as hitting or kicking. We of course did not approve of this behavior as parents and met with his teachers to try and him develop socially, an area he was having a hard time. However, we were uncomfortable with the fact that his teachers would call us nearly everyday to alert of us his behavioral issues instead of handling them & providing us a weekly or monthly summary. If they didn't call us we could expect them to say "your son did this" or "your son did that" every time we picked him up. They would talk to us about his behavior in front of him or other people which seemed unprofessional to say the least. They also provided very little detail as to what was triggering any of his incidents. It felt as though he was starting to be singled out and we decided to remove him from the program . We are appreciative of the efforts of the school but as the Director told us they were not equipped with the "resources to handle him". All this to say...if you are looking for a multicultural environment with resources to handle an active male child this place may not be the best choice. I have a friend who experienced the same situation with her son at this school. Hopefully the center will get the resources they need to service a wider range of children than they are able to at this facility.

The meals are another highlight--breakfast, lunch, and snacks are always fresh, healthy, and varied. Our daughter genuinely enjoys the food, which gives us peace of mind. The daycare hours, from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, are also very working-parent friendly. The flexibility has allowed us to manage our work schedules without compromising our daughter's care.
