My son just returned from a two week sleepaway here. He had an amazing time! The grounds are…read moregorgeous, the buildings are well maintained and the staff is top knotch! They are a Motorsport camp, so all things car related, perfect for my 12 year old who is obsessed with cars. They also host an Astro camp for those whose interest is space. While my son was there they did tons of driving on and off road, built rockets and launched them, did star gazing with the telescopes they have there, learned car mechanics, and so much more, including regular camp stuff: bonfires, swimming, sports, etc. Another pro was the ban of electronics; no iPads, video games, phones, etc. They keep the kids so busy, they won't miss them. One nice touch was the Thank You card they had the kids write home to parents. A courtesy I have always had my son perform, a good lesson in gratitude. Everyone working there was very personable, kind and helpful. They posted photos of the days activities each night. Any email to camp staff, both leading up to and during camp, was always responded to in a timely manner. This camp was perfect for my kid. He really thrived here. I was nervous, it being his first sleepaway experience, but he had no problems whatsoever and made friends easily with other campers. He's already looking forward next year. I may have to stowaway in his suitcase so I can go too!

My children love Immersion Island! I am originally from Mexico and speak Spanish to my children but…read moremy husband does not speak much Spanish so at home we speak English mainly. Immersion Island provides my kids with the opportunity of being fully immersed in Spanish language while learning the culture of Spanish speaking countries best of all, is super fun and my kids keep asking for it each year! I can really tell the difference at the end of the week of camp, on their level of confidence speaking Spanish to me, compared to the first day of camp.

I went to one of Immersion Island's camps for adults this weekend, and it was terrific. As a…read morebeginner (I've been studying Spanish for 9 months), I was worried that it would be difficult (not to mention tiring) to keep up with an 8-hour day of conversation entirely in Spanish, but Jennifer did a great job of structuring the day so it did not get tedious and had plenty of variety. The camp is offered over a weekend and students can go for one day or two (I just went on Saturday). There were about 10 students there, at various stages of proficiency from beginner to advanced, along with 6 or 7 native speakers. There were times when we spent time listening to cultural presentations, other times when we practiced conversation one-on-one or in small groups. The theme on Saturday was a "visit" to Venezuela. The most interesting thing was learning from, and speaking with, 5 native Venezuelans who told us about the country and talked about traditions, the landscape, the food, etc. One of them was a very skillful musician who plays the "cuarto" (four-stringed guitar) and led us through several songs, which was fun and also useful for practicing vocabulary. They also showed us how to make arepas, which we had for lunch. All of the native speakers were patient and encouraging, so I felt like I absorbed a lot without feeling stressed about my beginner speaking skills. The students with more advanced speaking skills also had opportunities to have more in-depth conversations.
