Ok, this is going to be a lengthy review! Sit tight…read more I left another practice in Anchorage because of miscommunication. I do not hide the fact that I am not a fan of dentist offices. What helps me with my anxiety is trust. I like to see the same person again and again. So, a little mix-up at previous office has caused me to no longer feel confident about the dentist. I figured I should empower myself to find an office that I can learn to trust practitioners again. Libby Group didn't have that much of review and that was my first doubt. But I am so happy to trust my instincts and some friends' word of mouth. I went for it and made an appointment. First, the office is really very cozy! They are not fancy with the TV and being able to watch Netflix while getting your teeth cleaned (like my previous office) but I have found that establishing trust and good relationship with my dentist to be much more important eventually! The office also has AMAZING view of mountains, OH MY! I thought that my first appointment would be an hour or less...WRONG! I filled out a very comprehensive personality traits questionnaire then was schooled very clearly about my oral health after examinations. They used a tiny camera to take pictures of my teeth and an iPad to explain what work needs to be done on that particular molars. I have never learned so much about my own oral health in one sitting. Enough to want to do better for myself. Dr. Libby is a tall, friendly, and warm lad that I have come to slowly trust. He openly admit that he will not be perfect but he will always try his best and that is enough. I asked them to keep the same people: assistant, hygienist, and doctor whenever I come in. They are happy to oblige to that. I have been there for three separate visits. Lastly, my few favorite things about the office: cool outdoorsy swags you get after your visit, not having to sit for long time in the lobby which makes my anxiety much worse, and staff greeting me in sign language whenever I come in! FYI: I currently see Nikki for my cleanings (this chick is awesome! I feel like she's on my team to help me have healthier gums) Dr. Libby as my DDS, and my all time favorite assistant Kristen who is an angel FYI. When I made the appointment. They were concerned as to whether I was in pain or not. I let them know I wasn't in pain but it was uncomfortable. I went in for my appointment and from the front office to the Dentist, Dr. Lehneis and the two assistants, Rachel and Kang were all so professional, knowledgeable and kind. And I know it must be a real pain to change gloves constantly, but you cannot go into the other room, use the computer and the keyboard, adjust the light, and touch God knows what else, and then put your fingers in my mouth. I was horrified and kept thinking to myself, this cannot be normal. The worst part, and the reason for the tears, was that I had been looking forward to going to the dentist for awhile. I had a few problems with different teeth, I definitely needed a cleaning, and I had very recently lost one of my front teeth in an accident, so I was very eager to make a plan for that. When the dentist came into the room, after looking at my X-rays, I was told that all they could and would do, is pull all of my teeth and give me dentures. I was in no way prepared to hear this news, and it very much devastated me. I asked about fixing the one missing tooth, and was told insurance wouldn't pay for it, since apparently dentures seemed to be my only option. But if I wanted to pay for it myself, I was quoted $1400. And that was it. No cleaning? Nope, not going to waste time cleaning your teeth when we are just going to rip them all out. Shortly thereafter Dr. Hyer retired. In the year and a half since then they have not hired a practitioner who is able to perform the surgery. Despite repeated attempts to receive a refund I am told various reasons why they just can't get around to it. For example the office manager is not authorized, or the owner has to approve it, or they have to check the records, etc. This is been going on for months. In my opinion it is unethical and unprofessional to take a patients money for a particular service, then fail to provide the service, and then fail to address the return of the deposit.

I was referred to Anchorage Oral and Implant Surgery by my regular Dentist, to have 4 broken molars…read moreremoved under IV sedation, as I'm very scared of going to the dentist. I had a successfully avoided the dentist surgery for 32 years, until pain from these broken teeth took me into the Dentist office. My regular dentist thought it better to have me sedated, and sent me to Dr Sashi to get the work done. I admit to being quite terrified - even just getting in one of those tilt-back chairs has me a nervous wreck. Tristan was my dental technician, and she was very warm, kind, understanding and welcoming. She took some kind of X-ray, where i had to sit, and put my chin in a tray, and it took no time. Dr. Sashi examined my mouth, and he explained everything. I said "Are you good?" (Trying to inject humour into the situation, to ease my nerves) and he said "I'm very good" i said i like that confidence! I knew he was good from all the reviews I'd seen about him. I was taken through to my treatment room, and given a blanket. I had a blood pressure cuff attached, sensors on my chest and stomach, a finger device, an oxygen tube into my nostrils, and the IV was started. This took, what seemed like seconds to get all this done. The injection to start the IV was quite literally painless, i barely even felt it. However, i didn't immediately fall asleep, so i started getting nervous like "Hey, I'm awake over here" But the next thing i know, I'm awake, with a big ice bandage round my head, and gauzes sticking out of my mouth. Quite dizzy, and not able to walk well yet. My friend who had driven me to the appointment, and waited while the surgery was completed was in the room waiting to escort me. I was mumbling, probably nonsense, and hugging all the staff in sight *facepalm* but i was quite loopy from the anaesthesia, so i can be forgiven for this. I was given an aftercare package, that is very thorough, and has do's and don'ts, and what you should be doing on each day following surgery. I haven't experienced a huge amount of pain either and i had turned down strong painkillers, but was told to call back for a prescription if i felt i needed it. Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen has managed my pain levels thus far. I am very happy with my extractions, and the stellar treatment i received at this Dental Surgery, and Dr. Sashi is indeed "Very good!" I do recommend this place.

Recovery has always been surprisingly fast to me, suggesting to me the damage was minimal. I've used some of the medication to reduce swelling, but never any of the serious pain meds. Just didn't need them.
