Super friendly staff and a huge variety of activities for the kids, including painting, baking, park outings, museums and Rastamouse screenings. My little one loves the food, while his carer genuinely addresses his development needs. Which I take to primarily be unlearning all the bad habits I teach him at home. They're open 8am to 6pm, so you can fit in a full working day. And there's typically no waiting list (I'm guessing they're much better at childcare than they are at advertising). And they're a bit cheaper than a lot of the nurseries in the area.

Not only because she was our only child, but also because she had not started talking and we couldn't be assured that we understood her feelings and needs. However, the manager and staff at the Rydevale Day Nursery helped us very much during transition to the new situation. They offered us gradual and supervised exposure of our little daughter to her new environment by starting to accept her for an hour or two a day, with my wife present. Then, they asked us to leave Kiana alone there for an hour or two to see her reactions. Then, after a few days, we just headed off for the whole days and Kiana became happy with her new life. Rydevale Day Nursery's staff were kind, polite and cooperative. My wife and I were both at ease with different requests and requirements that we had for Kiana, especially when it came to her health and safety. We met parents before finally deciding to start at this nursery and we met many others during the stay. Surprisingly, all parents were happy with the care and services provided by the manager and staff for their children. My wife and I insisting on the fact that for the manager of Rydevale Day Nursery, providing good care and having relationship with children comes as the first priorities. We met many parents that they believed so and we were all in agreement that financial and monetary aspects of care at Rydevale Day Nursery get much lower priorities when we entered and used their services. The most important thing overall is that Kiana felt so happy when she was there. It took her a few days to adapt herself and like the environment; but, just after a few days, we were completely noticing that she likes going there, playing with children, and interacting with staff. It is my pleasure to say thank you messages to Rydevale Day Nursery's manager and staff for all their love and support to Kiana. We miss you all! Love, Kiana

I really struggled with what rating to give this. My son has attended this nursery for three years…read morenearly, and loves it. That's what the stars are for. The rest of it drives me to distraction. The communication with the parents is appalling in the extreme. You are expected to be a combination of psychic and ultimately flexible, so that when they screw up and give you less than a day's notice for some form to be filled in, or for your child to attend a nativity play (which are two examples that come to mind) you jump to it and fall in line with them. Never mind that we pay VAST amounts of money for our children to attend this place. They don't even have parents' email addresses which would surely increase their ability to communicate, and are seriously behind the times when it comes to technology. Communication consists of one termly newsletter, put together on an ancient version of word with dodgy clipart. All else is done by random grabbing of parents as they arrive or leave, really not the best way to pass on important information. The garden is nice and has had money spent on it recently, in the form of a new climbing frame. My son seems to enjoy the food, which is vegetarian, though as far as I can see the menus haven't been changed in three years. The staff turnover is high and the levels of English spoken as a first language (or even as a coherent language) among those staff is pretty low. Having said all this, my son loves to go here. He whoops with joy on a nursery day. So I wouldn't take him out of the nursery, and neither would I NOT reccommend the place to a prospective parent. But you do have to be aware that this is a place where the staff need cajoling and constant questioning to find out what's going on. Some staff also have serious 'it's not my fault, blame someone else' attitudes.

Obviously, the most important thing to measure a nursery on is whether the children are happy and on that basis I would give it 5 stars. However, I share many of Sarah's frustrations with regard to communication, and I feel that it is very much run as a business (which of course it is, but they have such a long waiting list that I don't think they REALLY care what parents think - there's a hint of an 'if you don't like it, leave - there'll be 10 people who'll want your place' attitude). The manager actually has very little power - every query, complaint, question, suggestion etc has to be referred to head office and it can take months to get a reply (if you get one at all). I asked once about email communication and was told that they don't have the ability to do it directly from the nursery, it would all have to come from head office. The real reason, I think, is that every last bit of written communication has to be sanctioned by The Powers That Be. There is also, as Sarah implied, a total refusal ever to accept blame for anything that happens, or to admit that they might have got something wrong or handled something badly - there is always a stock answer to hand to fob parents off. The spin doctors work hard! There have been periods where they have struggled with staff turnover but actually, the last year to 18 months has been a very stable time with very few members of staff leaving. Most of the current staff are great. The 2nd and 3rd in command are absolutely brilliant - cheerful, polite, enthusiastic and genuinely fond of the children. The garden is now even better, with a lovely new covered sandpit and covered seating area for outdoor story-reading etc. My children both eat better at nursery than at home and eat things that they won't touch at home, so I am very happy that they at least get a balanced diet at nursery!

My daughter attended Carlisle. This was, admittedly some time ago, but a good friend sent her much…read moreyounger children here, and was president of the PTA. I attended events at Carlisle, and maintained relationships with the staff and heads. This is an excellent infant school (reception - year 2). There is a three form entry, with up to 30 in each class (when my daughter went there, most classes had over 30 due to successful appeals and children moving into the area; this is illegal now). The teachers, many of whom have been there for years and years, are, for the most part committed, caring and effective. The school has effective leadership, and continuity of leadership - the present head has been there over 15 years, and the head before her was there for yonks and yonks. The classrooms are clean and attractively decorated with the children's artwork. The playground has recently undergone some significant improvements, and there is good play (both active and quiet) equipment there. The security is (sadly but necessarily) tight. I am glad my daughter attended Carlisle, and would not hesitate to recommend the school to new parents.

Throughout this time my experience has been positive and I have nothing but praise for the school. The teachers are genuinely concerned for the learning potential and welfare of the children and seem able to stretch the more able children while helping those who might fall behind. The amount of extra curricular activities and diverse school trips is amazing and really expands the children's horizons. Discipline seems to be taken very seriously and there have never seemed to be any issues about behaviour. The school is a real community school that has an incredibly welcoming atmosphere, to children and parents alike. My youngest child is still in the Nursery and I'm waiting to hear if she has a place in Reception, if she hasn't I will be devastated as I can't imagine a better school, and it has become part of our lives over the last 8 years!

I have a child in the school and another on a waiting list, i am experienced in the world of childrens education, and would not fault sunnyhill in the slightest.....it is a wonderful community school, with big aspirations! My child attended the nursery at this school in 2019 and I also had an older child in PP2. I have now taken them both out of this school and have sent them to Alpha prep (where I couldn't be happier with). My child was in nappies when she first started attending the nursery, which they were not happy with. I was in the process of potty training her but she was finding this difficult to get the hang of. I was then shocked to find changes of clothes in her bag when she was coming home from nursery. The staff would remove her nappy when entering the nursery and expect her to know how to use the toilet. Absolutely shocking way to treat my child. I would never recommend any child to be sent here, especially not for a private school fee.
