Lovely hosts and rooms. The unique part is watching the cows be milked in the same bldg where the bedrooms are (on 2nd floor!) and talking with the cheese pro. Breakfast of course features delish cheeses. It's our 2nd time staying here. It's a little out of the way but it's well worth the extra 15 min drive for a unique experience. read more

The overall experience here was good and we would certainly go back again. The owners and their family were very friendly. The area and B&B was very rustic yet was comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was good with maple bacon, eggs Florentine, yogurt, homemade cinnamon roles and their fresh cheeses from the working dairy right below your room . Some things they could improve on is parking, the room was a little dusty, higher quality bedding and the landscape out-front looked like a work in progress. Check it out, worth the stay! read more

We stayed here several days. The decor is beautifully done and there's a very intimate feel in the common room. It's cozy and comfortable. The location is very rural Missouri and typical of the area. It's on a gravel road and you have fords across creeks. Those are very exciting for small city kids. The building is a craft cheese factory, store and milking barn on the middle level, and a bed and breakfast on the top floor. Across the road the owners are restoring an imposing two story 1860's sandstone farmhouse. Breakfast is good, but tends to a lot of sweet things. It would be perfect if there were a few more savory selections. I think they should also consider an afternoon cheese and cracker plate at the busiest check in time, Friday afternoons. Our room was nice, but so decorative parts were unusable unless a few items were removed. We ended up pulling some things off the nightstand and the table between the armchairs just for a place for our glasses, phone chargers, kindle, etc. The window seat needed a much plusher cushion for comfort, but nice view. The windows did not have screens. We had a few plumbing issues in our bathroom during the stay but other rooms didn't seem to be affected. Several people obviously use the gravel road as a commute to work route and aren't shy about raising dust. Otherwise very little traffic and peaceful with lots of barn kitty's on the porch. The kids staying there were fascinated by the extremely tame pig, the milking of the cows, the meadow and trees, etc. The suites looked like they worked well for families. There are not a lot of choices to stay right near Owensville, this is a really nice option and very pleasant. read more

My husband and I just got back from a relaxing weekend in the country. This place is a little piece of heaven just an hour or so away from Saint Louis. I almost hate to share this with the public but we had such a good time we wanted others to know about it as well. My husband and I enjoy going into St. Louis City almost every weekend to see a show at the Fox or Peabody, attend the many different festivals this time of year and visit many of the local breweries and great restaurants. This time we want to get away into the country where it is beautiful and peaceful. We are so happy we found the Brinkmann Farmstead. We had such a great experience. The bed and breakfast is beautiful. It is considered one of the top 10 most unique places in Missouri to stay. The place is very clean, the rooms are big and beautiful with sliding barn doors, window seats, hardwood floors, vaulted beam ceilings and an awesome stall like bathroom that could fit about eight people in the shower. I would like everyone to know that just as their website states ... this is a working farm. We knew this going in and we were able to enjoy so many aspects of this working farm. We were able to watch how the cows were milked twice a day. We were able to feed six of their baby cows bottles and even walked through the woods to find Wilbur, the 900lb free range pig and watch Martha give him his slop. The area is gorgeous. My husband and I walked the gravel roads and had a picnic down on the little bridge by the creek and took in the breeze, the beautiful trees and bright blue sky. Robin, the border collie even followed us down and stayed for a while and swam. In the mornings Martha made us wonderful breakfasts and we always had a sampler platter of their cheeses. Her husband Tom would come up and chat as well. In the evenings we went into town to The While Mule Winery (which is wonderful as well) and had dinner, the best port wine, and listened to the band. Our experience was spectacular. We hope to go back and rent out all the rooms with a group of couples we like to hang out with and enjoy the wonderful commons area Martha has decorated so nicely. This is a weekend my husband and I will never forget. I could right a small book on all of the great experiences but I will stop and let you experience the rest for yourself. read more

Beautiful place owned by beautiful people. Cheese is amazing, especially the Red Pepper Jersy Jack. Breakfast was delicious. Highly recommend the bed and breakfast to anyone that wants a relaxing time while enjoying the real farm experience. read more
