FAVORITE WINERY!!!…read more If you are in the Hermann, MO area, be sure to stop by this winery just south of town. It's a little far into the country, but very much worth it! This was actually our first winery on our wine-weekend. Tom is a wonderful host. He was able to tell us so much about each wine as we sampled all the wines. He really took his time to make sure we understood the process. He does a lot of blending grapes with other fruits to create unique wines. The fruits change the tartness and sweetness of a wine. My favorite wines were Kran Rose (I'm a big fan of cranberries), Rose of Traminette (spring, seasonal), Faithful Vintage, and Berry Blush. It happened to be my birthday when we were doing the tasting and Tom gave me a free bottle (afterall, we purchased three!). Also, Wenwood is known for the Pumpkin Wine. It is a fall seasonal (duh) and he already has so many orders in for it. If it sounds good to you, be sure to get your order in early!

The proprietor is German; he built the building to resemble a German winery about 40 years ago. The tasting room is small and will fit only a few people. It's naturally cool inside. Heinrich guided us through our tasting like an expert. He told us all about the grapes and the history of the winery. He showed us a book he has that details the history of American wines, specifically the Norton grape. He did the tastings in real glasses. Due to MO liquor license laws, they can't sell wine by the glass. However, there are picnic tables outside. Look out for their two pet cats who eat near the door. The male is a Norwegian forest cat and he is very friendly. I can't say enough good things. I hope to be back again later this year.

However you're in the middle of Missouri where grapes don't generate like traditional regions, and palettes are different. So if you're familiar with wineries and good wine this will be quaint but not your place. This is more of an event space with wine as an afterthought as evidenced by the gaggle of sororities and moms funneling in all day. Frankly, I was appalled at the event I attended for my daughters sorority. Everyone bought a $25 bottle of sweet or semi-sweet wine (that's this wineries specialty), dropped in a straw, and suckled their sippy cups. Their sweet wines are like wine coolers - and what college student doesn't like those? That should give context to the quality of wine and positioning of this space). Their traditional varietals all have sweet or fruit forward notes - Cabs are more like Pinots but lacking the depth and notes of a true spicy, bold cab. Past this, parking is like a festival, down a dirt road about a quarter mile walk from the front door. While I wouldn't return, it's a great place for an event and provides something unique to the area. And obviously the Greek system utilizes as a more sophisticated approach to the bars in Columbia.

It is such a picturesque place to get married. We also rented the old historic house for our wedding party to stay in for the whole weekend. Definitely a necessity since the venue is 20 minutes away from the nearest town and any hotels. The whole venue is perfect for a rustic wedding aesthetic. Lindsay, who coordinated the contracts and who I communicated with, was lovely and kind. The vineyard is not open during the week, so sometimes communication was slow. I was surprised on the day of our wedding, no one from the vineyard was present (a part from the bartenders). We had a few issues come up that would've nice to workout with venue staff, but we are easygoing people and made it work. It is the most affordable wedding venue I could find in the general STL area. There were a few extra costs like the wedding arch and linens, but those are minuscule in the grand scheme of things. I would definitely recommend visiting the vineyard for wonderful wine and cheese boards on the weekend or if you are looking for a stunning venue for your next event!
