I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to share my experience so others can make an informed decision. Throughout my interactions with this attorney, I found the level of professionalism to be disappointing. There appeared to be an overwhelming caseload, which often resulted in confusion regarding court dates, meeting times, and case-related communications. Important details were frequently mixed up, creating unnecessary stress and requiring constant follow-up. Communication was another significant concern. Emails were often written in an unprofessional tone, and when mistakes occurred, there was little to no accountability. Instead of acknowledging errors and working collaboratively to resolve them, responsibility was often shifted elsewhere. At the same time, delays from clients or others involved in the case were met with criticism and impatience, creating a frustrating double standard. Perhaps most concerning was the overall lack of confidence this experience inspired. Professionalism, organization, accountability, and respect are qualities clients should expect from legal representation, and unfortunately, those qualities were consistently lacking in my experience. If this review is challenged or dismissed simply because the attorney claims not to recognize the situation or disputes the feedback, that would only reinforce the concern. Clients have a right to share honest experiences, whether positive or negative. This review reflects my genuine experience and opinion based on direct interactions. I am proof of why Melanie is on that list. Melanie gave me great advice on whether to pursue possible legal action versus just going after retirement funds owed to me. Melanie's only interests and concerns were to do what was best for her client. My case was very challenging as my uncooperative ex-wife moved out of state to Florida and the retirement funds were moved to a different company. Melanie was very organized and kept tabs on my case to keep things moving. She persisted and pushed things along till it's successful conclusion. What stood out to me was that Melanie was a true professional. Subsequently, after my wife's mother died, my wife found out that her mother, her mother's husband and Mr. Brekka had set up a will that cut off much of my wife's inheritance and left all joint assets with the husband's own daughter. While my wife's mother had ALS, and during the time of the writing of the will, she was not of sound mind. She was highly emotional and easily manipulated. I cannot fathom an attorney writing a will wherein one party is mentally incapacitated. I am surprised that the lack of balance in the legacies were not called in to question. There is nothing my wife can do about the unethical nature of her mother's husband. We just figured an educated attorney would question the intentions of man setting up a will when his wife was facing a certain and imminent death sentence. And now my wife has received a certified letter from Brekka and Brekka, on behalf of my wife's mother's husband, telling my wife the remaining items he has allowed her will be discarded soon if not collected. Sure, all this is legal, but ethical? I would steer way clear of this office.

RED FLAG WARNING ‼ I attended a webinar from this firm that…read morewas very useful. So I can recommend the firm for learning purposes. I actually had been planning to work with this firm to add an additional property into an existing trust and to establish an advanced healthcare directive. However, due to a busy schedule I had pushed out my official scheduled meeting several weeks. But then something came up and I needed to reschedule that appointment. While trying to do so, I mentioned why I had to reschedule and what I was looking for from the firm. At that point the person I spoke with attitude changed. She stated that their firm was unwilling to work with an existing trust but they could make me a new one. When I asked why she said that would be modifying another firms work and they won't do that; they would only be able to create a brand new trust for me. Really? That is completely ridiculous. The recording costs alone woyld be cost prohibitive, never mind the cost of their time. Reputable attorneys work with existing trusts all the time. This is a big RED FLAG. Trusts do not belong to the firm that created it, they belong to the trust and are managed by the trustee that is often the person who had the trust created. It is a huge RED FLAG, in my opinion, that this firm insists that a new trust must be created. The only way I can make sense of that is if they want to collect payment for establishing the trust, and every deed transfer. And/or they might want to be the trustee on the new trust -- which might ensure future and possibly on-going payments. If the latter were true, that would be an even bigger RED FLAG --as it would suggest that may have a financial reason to want such control. So, I highly suggest people do their homework before working with this firm. And if you decide to do so, I suggest that you compare services and costing from another law firm. And be especially wary if they suggest being the trustee! The final RED FLAG , is that they are a "high-pressure sales" organization, where salespeople aggressively pursue potential customers through repeated calls, texts, and emails. This approach is off-putting and given what I learned in my last conversation with them it has led to negative and suspicious perceptions of the business. This is the reason I just spent 15 minutes writing this review.
