I actually work for another firm as a real estate paralegal and dealing with this office was difficult- Chelsea was the attorney and was not responsive at all, we had to email and call multiple times to get any response and what response we did receive was too late and sloppy. Paralegal same thing. My office spent way too much time and resources chasing response /documents from this office. It was like they had never done a closing before. Hornung and Scimone P.C. and Attorney Nicole Pinkos, specifically, were retained as representation for the sale of my family's residential property. I accompanied my mother to the signing since she had not done this before by herself, so I was there to support her and offer guidance. Upon asking a simple question about distribution of proceeds from the sale of the property and the expected timeline, I was met with hostility by Nicole. Attorney Pinkos proceeded to chastise me for asking reasonable questions about the process, and replied that "you should not speak unless you've been through the sale of a residential property yourself before... otherwise you don't know what you're talking about." I was stunned. Nicole made comments about my physical appearance, called my intellect into question, and commented on what she presumed my age was (based on my appearance) after I asked her to turn down the temperature and cease with her aggressive behavior. I explained that I am simply advocating for my mom, given there was some uncertainty surrounding this complex transaction (hence why we were looking to Nicole for clarification), and that we would appreciate some grace. "Do you want to finish the signing here, or do you want to keep talking and wasting my time so I bill your mother for this?" was Nicole's response to my question. My mother was shaking at this point and I was in a state of disbelief. My mother asked Nicole to stop the disrespectful rhetoric. Nicole continued to verbally berate me for the next five minutes in her office. Nicole then stormed out and we completed the signing with only the paralegal present to finalize the transaction. Truly dumbfounded, we called one of the partners at Hornung and Scimone P.C. to discuss Nicole's egregious behavior and request an apology the following day. The partner we spoke with said that while they would speak with Nicole about what transpired, an apology would not be issued to us because Nicole technically did execute on what she was hired for, despite her poor behavior. We were in disbelief over the complete lack of ownership. Respect, empathy, and patience cost nothing, yet mean everything. Attorney Pinkos possesses none of these qualities. She deeply lacks professionalism and emotional restraint. I cannot speak to any of the other attorneys at the practice, though I vehemently advise against retaining representation from Nicole Pinkos. read more

I hired David Scimone for the sale of my house.  Scimone threatened me that  if I didn't sign the deed ver a few weeks before the closing  I would lose money. He knew I was disabled with a brain injury  and I  didn't know what the right thing to do was. He kept telling me that I needed to trust him. We talked about my disability, a brain injury and my lack of vision  and clarity of processing things at times because of it.  He held the closing of the house sale without me there. He then KEPT my money from the proceeds of the house for 7 weeks. Any interest earned on the money was not given to me  -ever.  I believe he kept it. I asked Scimone several times for my money. He refused to give it to me. I had to hire a lawyer to get my money from Scimone.  I believe he benefitted from taking advantage of my inability to understand because of my brain injury. THAT IS THE VERY DEFINITION OF ABUSING A PERSON WITH A DISABILITY.  I do not reccomend using this attorney. read more

We used Kathryn at Hornung and Scimone for our home sale. We were not impressed with her and had two issues: 1 - Kathryn would not reply to emails or respond to voicemails, every time I was looking for her input my realtor would have to call her because that was the only way to get a hold of her. Unacceptable. 2 - Kathryn was very responsive, positive, and spoke a big game prior to committing to using her for our sale. We had a few issues that we knew were going to come up, I made her aware of them before and she said it was no problem and deals with it all the time. Then as we expected it came up during the sale and she sent this cold email about how it was out of the scope of her representation. In the end, did our sale happen? Yes, we were successfully able to get it done, but it was by no means because of her and we decided not to use her for our purchase. I am baffled by all the positive google reviews. read more

Our bank used this firm to close our refi. The experience was fine, especially for during COVID times. Everything got done eventually and the remote-closing (performed in their parking lot) went off without a hitch. But there was a last-minute change in the amount of property taxes required at the closing. A few weeks later, I received an uncashed check in the mail (from H&S) sent from my city because my property taxes were double-paid. It happens; my old lender paid the taxes very close to the closing and so this second check was unnecessary. That's fine, but it took several tries to get H&S to respond to my queries about how to get my money back from them. Not very professional. read more

Attorney David Scimone and his team are incredibly knowledgeable in real estate law. They are personable and excellent communicators. I had been looking for a condo for the past couple of years and found one I loved. I put a deposit down, started to get excited, and on the day of the inspection, David called my real estate agent after digging through the condo board meeting minutes. The important information, which had not been known by the seller's real estate agent on the day, was that the condo complex was about to embark on a $5 million upgrade project that would have cost me over $2,000 per month in condo fees. Thank goodness David discovered the information when he did because I was about to put a large down payment for the condo! Thankfully, we got out of that deal, and I kept looking for a new home. A few months ago, I found the perfect home for me. So, I put down an offer and immediately started the process of selling my home of 30 years. David handled both ends of the real estate transactions for me. It was a stressful time, buying and selling a home simultaneously, with so many moving parts. However, David and his staff walked me through everything I needed to do. They knew real estate law and explained complicated information to me in terms I could understand. They were very responsive to my questions and concerns and got back to me quickly. They assured me all along the way and made me comfortable completing these two deals. I was first introduced to the firm when Tammy Hornung was a part of a first time home buyer's lunch and learn sponsored by my company. I was impressed with her knowledge of real estate law and her straight-forward approach to the questions being asked, so decided to utilize Hornung and Scimone for the purchase of our first home in Hopkinton, MA a few months later. We worked directly with Liana Arvay, Esq. and Andrea Siflinger, Paralegal, during the closing process. Both were very communicative about what was happening behind the scenes (with the title, the drafting of the p&s, etc.). They were also awesome at keeping in contact with both our mortgage broker and the seller/seller's agent throughout the closing process, especially so when there was a slight delay in our mortgage commitment due to appraisal documentation needing to be refiled.
