Then again, the only other state that can be reached by rail happens to be New South Wales, which is to the south. You could get to South Australia, but there isn't a railway that is able to take you there. Anyway, the station itself is actually quite nice, though I did find the elevators to be pretty slow. Since living in Teneriffe I've not really embraced the City Cat because previously it meant a 20 minute walk up to New Farm Park. But voila! Now I can join the boating commuters and jump on the City Cat from the new Teneriffe terminal. I find that the ferry and the City Cat is also a great way to show off Brisbane to friends who are visiting from elsewhere, especially at night when the boat approaches the city. The lights on the Story Bridge always look so magical. Is there a more relaxing, pretty way of traveling? I think not!

What's also cool about this terminal is the bus transport on hand. CityGlider and 199 services patiently chug their way down Commercial Rd and depart every couple of minutes. (A far far cry from the Northside buses I've experienced.) Making for a idyllic way to get to work or as a great way to show tourists the river. The Mirimar crew were phenomenal for the roughly 45 minute trip there, pointing out the highlights along the river. There is plenty of top deck seating, and on the main deck there is a full kitchen where you can order up hot and cold foods, grab a cold beer, wine, soda, or water.

I remember the days when it was called Brunswick Street station (in my late teens when catching the train to the Valley with friends to go clubbing was the norm). Not much has changed since then. The station has had a bit of a facelift and all the train services and lines pass through Fortitude Valley on the way to or from Central Station. If you're heading to the Valley for a gig, to eat out, to go to Chinatown or to browse some of the fabulous shops on James or Ann Streets, than the train is one of the easiest places to start. The services are regular, but I will pass out a word of warning for anyone traveling alone. The Valley station can become a bit rough, particularly at night, so if you're a young woman or you're waiting by yourself than be a little careful because there are some pretty interesting characters who hang out there at night. Generally it is well lit and there are Queensland Rail officials around, but better be safe than sorry. Also, avoid using the toilets!

I was after accommodation and flight times that would be safe for a woman travelling alone, and Jamaal (the store manager) was patient with me and understanding of my concerns. I could only drop by at late hours (past 5pm) after work, which was when Student Flights was also set to close, and Jamaal was willing to stay back past closing hours until everything was booked. I even caught him stepping out once for lunch and he stayed back even though I insisted he go grab something to eat! This place can get very packed at certain hours, particularly during lunch breaks, Friday nights, and weekends. So be sure to pop in early on a week day if you don't want to be waiting around, unless you like reading masses of travel brochures. But all up I've never had such great service from a travel agency before. I'm definitely going back for the next trip I book.

Overall, we had a lovely experience in Port Douglas with only a few things that were, well, awful. She immediately looked into getting those items if not fixed, at least removed from their listings. She was incredible and we highly recommend her!

The central food hall was especially crowded, the restrooms were terribly dirty, and electronics charging capabilities were nowhere to be found near the departure gates. There are 400 people in line that they are trying to squeeze through. People are skipping the lines. I have never seen chaos like this all my years of travel. Edit: The single line goes downstairs. All departure goes through a single line. I see over 1500 people in line. Edit 2: it got worse. There are no signs for premium entry, so be warned. Once you're in the line approaching the scans, the chaos ensues. About 5 people had already put their stuff in trays as instructed, then another agent said to pick up our trays to wait in another line. Ok, fine. No sense antagonizing security. Edit 3: Everyone is concussed. No clear signs for passport checks. I stood there trying to figure out where to go, and got scolded at by an agent for not using the machine kiosks. Ok, I proceed there and put my passport in. The wrong way, he scolds me again. I told him it's a bit chaotic and got confused. He argues that it's not chaotic. The machine flashes red, and he tells me I'm not qualified to go through the kiosk after all and to go wait at the end of the agent line. There's just one agent there among the empty seats. She was trying her best, but it took another 20 mins. All in all, it was almost 2 hours to finally get through all that, only to end up at Duty Free, where I had another interestingly bad experience. This airport is not equipped for the traffic.
