I went to Straddie for the first time and I called Flyer Gold beforehand to sort logistics. The lady on the phone with me was super friendly and assisted me with all my questions. She was super patient and everything we discussed went according to plan! They provide a courtesy bus from Cleveland Train Station to the ferry. You can purchase your tickets for the ferry when you arrive without any dramas. They are quick and efficient and the next thing you know- you're on the boat heading to Straddie. 25 minutes later, you arrive and the Straddie bus times align with the ferry arrivals making it very visitor friendly. They were a little late arriving but a little early on the return. The buses will wait and adjust their time to the ferry which is fantastic. I really appreciate that. I had a great experience on the flyer gold and would definitely take it again. If you're a frequent visitor or go in a group, you can purchase a multi-pass which may be more economical. read more

Australians are somewhat spoiled on transit options. It must be noted that this ferry is not part of Translink, meaning that you cannot use your card or its perks. There is a slight student discount, but the rate as a whole is not bad. The boat runs about hourly, and it is a quick ride and a quick boarding process. It is a large catamaran, and thus very stable. A smooth ride. They allow you to bring pets and whatever you want to carry, and claim to have hosted people who took full advantage of that policy, up to bringing on pigs and goats. I did not see any of those; just people and dogs. It is worth noting that if you take this passenger ferry, you will end up in a fairly anonymous town, so unless you are meeting someone there you will take a bus to the good parts of the island. Since I'm not writing a separate review for that, I'll say that the bus is limited but effective. Again, you have to pay in cash, but for the bus, a student discount makes a rather large difference (half price). The bus is timed to coincide with the boat, though the first and last boats of the day lack a bus service. It goes across the island pretty quickly; there aren't a lot of stops along the way. On the mainland side, a free bus runs to and from the train station, clearly labeled, enabling you to get to anywhere in Brisbane at a very decent clip. All told, this is a cost- and time-efficient way for people in Brisbane to enjoy a day trip to a tropical island paradise. read more

So if you've read previous reviews you'll know that Jeeves most inconveniently took a weekend off and left me stranded without the option of helicoptering off Stradbroke Island when I recently double-booked myself. When one finds themselves in such a predicament the services of the Stradbroke Flyer come in pretty handy. Leaving from the Island on the hour at 25 past, it's a quick and affordable way for passengers (no cars) to get to and from the mainland. It's $19 for a return ticket, which also includes a complimentary bus transfer to the Cleveland Train Station, and I found the whole process incredibly seamless. While some of the boats themselves might be a little older, I was just thankful for a safe passage from A to B and without breaking the budget! There's no need to pre-book, just turn up and they'll take your fare (cash only) on the day. Also, if I wasn't able to drive to the Island I'd be thanking my lucky stars for a service like the Flyer. read more

The 'Straddie Flyer' water taxi business is amazing. The family run outfit operates seven days a week, 365 days a year, plying their taxi boats back and forth across Moreton Bay between Cleveland and Dunwich. The big cats are fast and comfortable and have a limited cafe on board - they are the fastest water taxi to get you across the pond to Straddie. The Flyer operates a free courtesy bus to and from the Cleveland train station to meet the 14 return boat trips every day, giving locals and visitors to Straddie an excellent choice of times. You'll get a return trip for under $20 and on the island you can jump on a bus at the Col Spring jetty in Dunwich to check out beautiful Straddie. The trip across the bay is quick - about 20 minutes - but so relaxing and the staff are friendly and efficient. read more

Ah the Straddie Flyer. I took this water taxi to schoolies back in the mid 90's and have used it ever since whenever someone gets a house on the island. I recently collected a group of friends from the late night service, and was super impressed to see they had been provided with a wheeled buggy for all their luggage. I thought it was a nice touch. If you don't need to take your car, take the Straddie Flyer - and don't worry about missing the bus. Straddie is so old school that the bus won't leave until the Flyer arrives and vice versa. read more

I used to have to catch the flyer a lot when I spent weekends travelling to Moreton Island to visit my partner who used to work out there. The Stradbroke Flyer is the most common way to get from Cleveland to Stradbroke and vice versa. The service is great, it usually runs on schedule, and you can take your canine companion with you for the ride (look up the official rules on this one, but I've seen it happen). It'll only cost you $17.00 return. Do keep track of what services you're using and how they link up with the buses on the Stradbroke side. I once caught the water taxi over only to miss the bus to Amity Point by a few minutes. I then missed the Amity Trader which would take me to Moreton Island. My partner had to cross the channel by dinghy to come and rescue me because I had been failed by reliable transportation link ups. (Usually, they're pretty good, but that time was an epic fail). There are a couple of ferries back to the mainland. Be sure to catch the Flyer on the way home if you caught it over. They don't give out refunds if you catch the wrong ferry service (I found out the hard way). The best thing they offer is that you can use the unused ticket at a later date. read more
