I loved them because not only were they hella comfortable, but each time I wore them I felt a little Audrey Hepburn-esque. They made me feel polished, sophisticated and casually chic. They had a Chanel look to them without the price tag. I even went through a phase of not wearing them for fear of ruining them, but that's a story for another review. Well, sure enough as a pair of well worn shoes do, the sole gave up the ghost but I wasn't ready to give up on them yet. That's when I sent them into the shoe ER that is Hallelujah at the bottom of Broadway on the Mall (head towards the back of the food court to find this sole saver!). Within days my shoes were back to their prime and lasted for another 18 months before I finally had to say goodbye. All in all the repair set me back maybe $20 or $30 which compared to what I paid for them was a pittance. The guys at Hallelujah have also saved a handbag that for sentimental reasons (it was a gift from my oldest and dearest friend) I couldn't accept was gone for good. They repaired the leather and when they say invisible stitching they mean it. There was no telling on a glance that this well loved handbag had had a few cosmetic touch-ups. For reliable, quality and affordable service I'll always head to Hallelujah!

Karene A is right, those looking for a second hand store experience that earns them hipster cred or…read morekitsch points should look elsewhere for their fix. That's not to say that you won't find items that fit that bill at the Red Hill Salvos Store but it's unlikely. Red Hill Salvos has been a spot I've spent many a hour searching for homewares, books and on the odd occasion kooky costumes for a 70s highschool teacher inspired photo shoot. This is the spot you come to if you're looking for something unique for your home- something that tells a story and stands out from the run of the mill flat pack furniture. On many occasions I've found (much to my delight) fantastic crystal pieces including small milk jugs perfect for the kitchen table, vases and other knick knacks for my home. If you're in the market for larger furniture items that tell a story and have a bucket load of character then be sure to wander into their back shed area where you'll find enough desks, dining tables, chairs and wardrobes to fit any decor or need. While I've done my fair share of 'shopping' here it has also been a fine spot to give items I no longer need a new home. Books, clothes and other kitchen items that I no longer need are donated to a good cause and handing them directly to their warehouse teams means I'm safe in the knowledge my donations are not being ruined by weather waiting for a donation bin to be emptied.

While it's not the place to pick up quality retro clothing, you will find plenty of old picture frames, antique furniture (banged up antique furniture but it's all about character, right?), vinyl records, old-school suitcases and shelves and shelves full of cute little statues and retro kitchenware that all looks like it should be in Grandma's kitchen. Their pricing system is a little haphazard; the price markers seem to know the value of some of the antique items but overlook others. Sometimes I can pick up an old suitcase or port for $20 whereas on other visits the same sort and quality item will be upwards of $50. There are definitely bargains to be had if you visit regularly though. As well as lots of really old stuff (I'm full of such technical terms), they also have plenty of newer second hand furniture, linen, toys, sports equipment and a section with discounted supermarket items such as toilet paper, shampoo, detergent etc.

Always obliging and willing to work on my strange requests or ideas on how else I can achieve what I'm looking to do. A small business with a great attitude. While one of the employees and I discussed what would be required to be done to repair it, I specifically asked that the style and colour of the stitching could please match the other shoe as closely as possible. The reason being because the type of stitching style was top-stitching, ie: it is a feature of the shoe and meant to be seen. The employee seemed to understand completely. However, when I returned to collect my shoe, the stitching had been pulled in far too tight, causing both sides of the front panel to be puckered, and the stitching colour did not resemble the original colour whatsoever!! Also, they had left a large, very lumpy knot on the underneath of the panel, which dug into the top of my large toe! Mind you, I could barely even squeeze into the shoe, because it had been made too narrow due to the overly tight stitching. Naturally, I was very upset about this botched repair job, as one shoe now looked totally different from the other, and was virtually unwearable. I explained my dissatisfaction to the guy who had done the job, and he wasn't apologetic or even very concerned at all. Therefore, I very highly suggest that anyone who wants quality repairs and workmanship carried out on items which they have spent their hard earned cash on, DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE!! I would have given them zero stars if possible! Take your shoes elsewhere!!

I find the location interesting, because being in James Lane means that Boo Radley is situated amongst places like Frock Shop, Jules and Roc, and Ellery who are all equally funky and designer, but aimed at a younger market than Boo Radley. Boo Radley's collections consist mainly of flowy, layered clothing in neutrals and pastels. It's all of nice quality and is well-made out of pleasant, cool fabrics. Their demographic is mainly women from about thirty to forties and I think it's really great to see that group being given the opportunity to wear some hipper, more unique things than a lot of places offer. Boo Radley is sort of a fresher, more contemporary version of places like Jacqui E, Katies, and Sussan and even if you don't fall within their main target audience, you're likely to find something you would like to wear. Boo Radley sells the kind of clothes that your Mum would wear and that you'd steal from her closet.

I'm glad I did because this shop exudes casual elegance with a colour palette which reminds me a little of Jigsaw. Their summer collection of slips, dresses, tops and jackets combines dusky greys, greens, blue and whites, all of which can be easily mixed and matched. To be honest, I don't think the loose cuts of their dresses and the flowing fabrics suit petite figures but I can see that the style would be lovely on taller, full figured women. The shop assistant was honest and helpful. When the dress obviously didn't suit my figure, she didn't try to pressure me to buy it or suggest lame quick fix solutions such as belting it. Although Boo Radley designs are stocked in Ascot and Chermside, this is the first concept shop in Brisbane and carries the largest range. It's part of the new development on James Street - walk past the cinemas, cross Robertson Street and keep walking further up. This is one shop definitely worth checking out.
