I was very excited about visiting this shop. It had what I was looking for. Clotted cream and candy bars for a homesick friend from England. I spoke to the senior woman working there, asked if it was her shop, that I thought it was cute. She responded, it's not cute it's a food store (it also has gift items, etc.) My husband responded, it's a way to speak to customers and in turn she mumbled another nasty comment. British candy, teas, sodas and Beatles memorabilia galore. This is a small little shop with a good amount of items packed in. The actual layout of store is kind of awkward but it is what it is - when you walk in you're almost immediately walking into items on display and the shelf is almost right up against the front store window. Beyond that, on the shelf up against the wall is my favorite tea - Harringtons Yorkshire Tea. (Some backstory: I actually found out about this tea from a vlog on YouTube of all places... the girl is a journalist and was talking about how her husband and her can't live without it..they're from the UK but apparently it's the best tea ever...and I totally have to agree!) I happened to notice the tea the first time I was in here a couple months ago and grabbed a box of 40 which was $5.95. I realized a few days ago that there were only 6 bags left and had a mini freak out because I have been having it almost daily...which lead me to coming back to get more yesterday! Upon entering the store I also found out they have a website and they do ship... so that's something to look into too. You have to try some of the speciality candies and sodas. Since these are all British imports, the ingredients are different than all the junk we have added into our food in the USA. There are natural colorings in the candies they sell at British Imports... usually black currant, turmeric, carrot, etc.... here in US it's different dye #'s made in a lab. Since its all imported it is on the more expensive side but I don't really mind since most are items I have never tried but am interested in trying plus ingredients not AS bad... don't get me wrong, not great either.. it's candy! This store is chock full of really cool things. We bought a whole bunch of Brit cookies and candies and a jar of curry sauce. The proprietor ( a real Brit) was so sweet and chatted with me for 15 minutes on how to cook a proper chicken curry. I am kind of torn on what rating to give this. I loved the store but what must have been the store owner didn't even acknowledge us at all, and felt completely ignored. Usually I enjoy this feeling, but seriously people, just say hello once. She gets a one star. The store is actually really neat. All the sauces, chutneys, chocolate bars, sausage, scones, puddings, pork pies, teas, drinks toys! You name it this little store has it all. So my girl always seeks these places out. Here and there around Massachusetts, you'll find these "British Import" stores about. They sell a small variety of foodstuff imported from England. This one is no different. It's all food here - cookies, chocolates, etc. We picked up a few things here. Frozen pork pies (they were really good). Frozen mince pies (I didn't really care for them, but she loved them). Got some christmas crackers for the kids. Flake bars, etc. Kinda pricey, but these places always are. Sort of a slipshod establishment - should be cleaned up a little. But - like I said - par for the course for these types of shops. read more

I stumbled across this shop years ago when I was in Plymouth and loved it. Now, during quarantine, I was running out of my favorite tea (Yorkshire Gold!) and thought of it again. I found their online shop and was able to stock up on tea as well as get a few special treats to make life a little more exciting while we are trapped inside. Witnessed the owner of this store today totally scream and berate a poor delivery driver while she was in the wrong!! She parked in a commercial loading zone. While she was in the shop, a food delivery truck had pulled up and started delivering to a nearby business. She came out, and while she was in the wrong to begin with, she totally went up one side and down the other of the poor driver, who just stood there looking at her. I would never patronize her store simply due to seeing how she treats others. read more

My boyfriend and I were pretty excited to stumble upon British Imports in downtown Plymouth. I had actually heard about it via Yelp, and I couldn't wait to check out their products. As far as products go, everything looked interesting; the food looked really good. My problem with the store is the two people working there. When we first went in, we really wanted to buy their pork pies, but we didn't have a freezer bag and were a long way from home (on a very hot day). By chance, after we left, we found somewhere that sold ice packs. We decided to go back and purchase the pork pies. When we arrived, a man immediately came over to see if we needed help, and the woman behind the counter told us to stop opening her freezer. Makes one wonder how a customer would find the products they wanted to buy if they're discouraged from opening the freezer! Undaunted, yet slightly unnerved by her response to our browsing of her products, we picked out several items to buy. At the register, our experience took a turn for the worse, and this is why I will never set foot in their store again, and will make sure I let anyone I can know about their treatment of my boyfriend. My boyfriend is originally from Norway; he has a very Norwegian name, however, he's half-Indonesian so he doesn't look Norwegian at all. In fact, he usually gets mistaken for either Hispanic or Native American. He handed the cashier his credit card, and she immediately asked for his ID. After giving her the ID (which was his license with his picture on it), she demanded he confirm his birth date before completing the transaction. Really? I mean, come on- his license had his picture. Is he some criminal master mind creating fake IDs to purchase a meat pie? That was so uncalled for, and I will say it- clearly racist. She obviously thought a man that looked Hispanic with no accent couldn't possibly have a Norwegian name. Shame on that lady, and shame on that store. We will never be returning there. read more

Store sells a variety of imports, from candies and frozen meats to flag bumper stickers and teas and tea supplies. Everything I've bought from here was delicious, though pricey (because it's an import shop, and British imports tend to be pricey as is). Staff isn't that great though. They tend to generally ignore your presence and aren't very polite (my mother claims to have had a bad experience in here so I don't think she's been here since). We love this store and make the trip frequently to stock up on British goods. The woman who owns it is very nice and friendly. But she's not overly annoying and constantly in your face- which I really love. They have a great assortment of British goods,foods and candies. What I love is the candy they have from Britain that does not have artificial colors in it because my daughter cannot have it. I tried shopping here on three different occasions and could not believe how unpleasant the store's proprietor was. Once or twice is happenstance; three times, it's a pattern. 4 different people in this area randomly told me horrible experiences they had with her, they literally left the store shaken and upset--so, no, it's not about getting a thicker skin, it's about not wanting to be treated unbelievably rudely. Teeny little aptly named shop right on Court Street in downtown Plymouth. They have a lovely selection (albeit pricey for what they are, really) of teapots, tea accessories, and... you'll never guess... TEAS!! :0) *Really, what kind of British shop would they be without tea??* Good selection (I'm actually glad they don't have more!) of British candies, from blackcurrant pastilles (my FAVORITE!!) to chocolate bars, etc. Totally brings me back to when I was visiting my family in England when I was ten. (Seriously, fond memories there. I think my brother and I were in a sugar coma for the majority of that trip!) They also offer British condiments and foodstuffs. There's a very limited selection of British memorabilia, and they have a fairly good selection of sausages, blood puddings and the like at what seemed to me like pretty reasonable prices. I've been shopping there for years. They have good prices, and I have never seen them be rude. I have a question for the person who claims their friend was asked for an ID for a credit card transaction - was your friends' credut card signed? If not, getting an ID is fully understandable, not racist. No offense, but I think you need to grow a thicker skin. read more
