Jose also stood out because of his good and enthusiastic attitude. It is so important to have a good attitude when weddings are really stressful. Jose had a grounding and calming presence, which I can't say all vendors are like that. They were timely with their product and worked with me on the preview. He was very communicative while he worked on the product. We also had a corgi (who loves to bark) to incorporate as our guest of honor. At our wedding, Jose stood out as being the the vendor who worked best with our dog. He didn't flinch at all when my corgi was just being a dog. If Ube barked or didn't act perfectly, Jose did not have a problem with this. He seemed genuinely enthusiastic that Ube was a part of our wedding. He was able to capture a few special moments with our dog. Our highlight video made me tear up that he caught Ube looking at us when we were walking. I honestly wish we had set more time aside with Jose for capturing private moments with our dog and portrait style videography of solo shots of the bride/veil and groom. (Please note, only didn't get this because I did not set aside time and had a difficult photographer). So some tips for folks to make sure to set aside time in their timeline for this. Also with the package we got, Jose was able to capture a lot of the dancing magic with friends. I know weddings are about the couple, but it is also about the people who came to celebrate. I want to remember and spend time with everyone, that's why I invited them. He had a really fun reception video where he shared a lot of that dance floor vibe and energy. Once you're an adult, it's hard to have those fun parties with everyone you love, he was able to capture the moments that'll last for all of us - couple, friends and family. Unrelated PSA for any couples reading this: remember to practice standing straight! Think of pulling in your torso straight up (rather than your shoulders) - hope that tip works - I ended up slouching despite keeping my shoulders 'as straight as possible.' Even though it was the most important one, because we had three other photographers flake out on us, the last vendor we hired was the photographer. From the moment she called me back, through our first meeting at our house and subsequent emails and conversations prior to hiring her, I knew Carlie was going to be great. And unlike some other wedding photographers who are either cookie-cutter hacks or fashion themselves are high-brow (and over-priced) artistic geniuses, Carlie's talented eye is on what matters most -- people, connections and the feelings she captures in the moment. I found Michael though my man's cousin (she also happens to own the home where we hosted our…read morewedding). I had called 2 photographers in Gilroy for my wedding, and while Michael was about $500 more expensive than the other one - I realized that getting photographs of the day in the style I preferred was worth the extra expense. We had a few phone conversations and he worked me up a price for the wedding day. (I was not going to need engagement photos OR actual prints). My price included X hours of his time at the ceremony, his retouching/sorting of shots, and then posting ALL photos for me to download. Michael was very pleasant and engaging on the phone and was another vendor that I knew I could count on (whew). You pay 1/2 as a deposit and the other half a few days before the wedding. I met him about 30 mins before the ceremony and he was already shooting away. I had supplied him with a shot list, some photo styles I liked, and a couple other specifics (like that I wanted shots of all the food at my wedding). He covered all of those off. I had also told him I really wanted the group shots to be FAST FAST so I could get them done and enjoy my reception. Now I don't remember all of it, but I recall those shots maybe took 20 mins - which might be a world record. My cake cutting turned out to be after his time ran out - but he was a trooper and stayed the extra time without charging me. In the end there were nearly 700 shots posted for us to download! Everyone always tells you that the day is a blur, and they were right, I barely remember a thing! Thank goodness I have a record of the day with 700 photos. Highly recommend.
