John found a Richard Scarry children's book in French and quickly called his sister to see if she wanted it for our niece. Next find was a Boy scout handbook from dad's childhood! I found some sweet bells, but when I spotted the giant jug under a table I held my breath as I turned it over and saw the name Dover- Seagrove! The tag was labeled as such- 1987 Seagrove pottery- score! I snapped pictures and took the jug home too- already sent photos to my friends in Seagrove, I know the family studio it was made in! How cool- to find it in Brunswick, Ga! Great prices too- John and I both bought from the same booth!!!

Antique and vintage finds include framed art & prints, furniture, oriental rugs, lamps, all sorts of housewares, limited vintage clothing, crystal, vintage Playboy magazines, books and so much more! Some items are priced high while others are more reasonable. As always when shopping stores like this ask if the dealer will give a discount. Today was our lucky day because we were given discounts on our purchases!

But my experience was great- we were greeted coming through the door & I was near the register (unknowing) and was asked if I was ready to check out- but I wasn't. The lady told me they were moving a big piece of furniture- just in case I had to wait to check out. No problem, I was just getting started! As I made my way to the back of the store- John got excited- a kitty came out to greet us. She obviously could spot cat lovers! She made sure to meow and demand pets and followed me around which made me absolutely have to buy something. I am a sucker. They carried my favorite soap line- Naked Bee Honey products, but didn't have any bar soap- boo, I tend to buy all in stock when I find it and it's always at small stores! Instead I found a hefty slab of geode crystal with agate- but it wasn't priced. I had a number in my head I would go up to and they sold it to me for less! Yippee~ sold! The three times I've been in recently, the employee at the front cashier has ignored me completely....just kept reading book or looking at phone or chatting with another employee. Today, I asked where I might find towel hooks, and the employee said they didn't have any. I asked, "none?" because I thought that was unusual. She said "none". I looked around the store, saw maybe a half dozen of them, and left.

Visiting Jekyll, I was in need of extra baking dishes for Xmas dinner. Every year our rentals never have enough and it's not worth transporting fragile bakeware 800mi to cook one meal. My quest turned into a curiosity to just seek out each thrift store to review so I know where to go next time this happens at my rental house. The associates at Hello Goodbuy were not friendly, neither greeting us when we walked in, nor when I asked if they knew if they had any bundt pans. Everyone had a southern accent and was white. We felt seen as outsiders, as happens in certain places around here. Intended or not, they came off like that kind of place. There were a lot of clothes and other knick-knacks, and some furniture. It was organized but felt very cramped and things were outdated in a worn 5-10yo way, not a cool vintage way. I left after a look at a small section that had anything resembling bakeware. Not much for kitchen, and nothing I needed. I always appreciate the mission of a thrift store, but this one felt so fundamentally (unwelcoming) different from ones like Gather or Goodwill where I saw all kinds of people shopping, and I felt very uncomfortable.

In the back is a champagne bar that should not be missed. Brandon helms up the elegant bar that offers champagne events and drinks by the glass. There is also a well curated wine shop within too. A great cultural addition to SSI, Glynn Visual Arts (GVA) fulfills multiple roles for the community…read moreand provides community for its artists and aspiring artists. They offer classes across a variety of visual art mediums throughout the year. They offer a children's summer camp as well. On site they have an artists' store filled with handmade original works. GVA also does outreach in the community, providing free art crafts for local kids. They host outdoor markets on SSI at certain times of the year. We visited the store at Christmas time and found very interesting, beautiful original art items. Prices were higher on average than the Jekyll Goodyear Artists' shop, and there wasn't as much in the store but otherwise similar to that local artists' shop and definitely worth a visit. Staff (or volunteers?) were very friendly and helpful. I'm happy to have finally visited and I'd like to check out their classes and summer camp when we visit for a longer stay.
