Stopped in to check out the soft opening and grabbed a couple coffees. The prices are in line with other cafes (aka high for coffee, but typical for Cambridge). We didn't try any of the food this time around, but the pastries and menu both look promising. The interior is light and airy, and the decor your standard contemporary-industrial. Definitely prime for becoming the new neighborhood study spot. Since my experience was limited to their soft opening, I'll have to come back to try more of the menu. Cute coffee shop in Somerville area serving up anything from avocado toast to lavender lattes. Nice environment thanks to the floor to ceiling windows. Last visit was solid, but left a little more to be wanted. Latte ($4.25) was large, but came out lukewarm and a bit weak for my taste. Smoked salmon toast ($10) was delicious but tiny! I'd been meaning to check out Broadsheet Coffee Roasters for awhile now, and finally I found the right moment to stop in! I frequently bike/drive by the cafe on my way around town and have been interested by the looks of the place for a long time - the big COFFEE neon light sign in the windows and the outdoor seating always made me curious. I'm here now and quite pleasantly surprised and satisfied! Firstly, there's plenty of places to lock up a bike outside between the street signs and two or three bike posts on the block. Just from walking into the cafe it's apparent that the owners/staff know what they're doing in terms of high quality single origin coffee/espresso. The drink menu is simple - little to no flavors (maybe vanilla?) - and contains all the classics I'd expect (if someone serves a cortado, then they probably know what they're up to). The interior is beautifully decorated with modern, minimalist design: white walls, light blue-ish white-ish grey-ish wood floors and light natural wood finishes with light blue accents! Love it. Oh and there's plants!! A personal favorite of mine. I ordered a cortado for here with low fat milk - its delicious and pretty perfectly pulled and steamed. I have no complaints. The espresso hits the right spot in the back of my tongue without feeling sour or leaving a bad taste. The creama was flavorful with the right amount of acidity. The small amount of steamed milk made for a great smooth finish! YUM! The person who took my order was quiet but nice and professional. The barista was friendly and helpful. They have free wifi - unlimited on weekdays, one hour on weekends - totally reasonable. There is more seating than I expected. Five 2 person tables outside on the sidewalk, bar seats along the front window and lots of small tables inside as well. I could see it getting busy on the weekends during brunch hours, but at 10am on a Wednesday it was the perfect mix of filled and empty tables. And yes, in some ways, I understand that people say it is expensive - but good coffee/espresso is more expensive than Starbucks/Dunkins/the gas station/the neighborhood diner. It just is. But I think it's worth it and so will anyone who enjoys a quality cup. For instance, I spent $3.25 on a 12 oz cup of iced coffee at 4A's in Brookline yesterday and got horrible service and bitter coffee with no outdoor seating or ambiance. Today, I paid $3.75 for an incredible cortado, expert service and a beautiful aesthetic. That $0.50 was well worth the difference in quality and overall experience. (and PSA - tip your baristas!! Especially if they make drinks this good and serve with a smile). I did not try the food, but hope to come back with my partner and split a menu item soon! Will update! read more

Broadstreet Coffee Roasters has been on the top of my coffee list for a while. The tall glass windows, neon coffee sign, wooden tables, white exposed brick, makes this place incredibly aesthetic. The vibe of the cafe is a mix of people working, catching up and some meetings. I ordered a plain cappuccino which tasted delicious. Not too acidic with deeper roasted flavors. Broadsheet as free wifi to the public (only 1 hour on weekends) with plenty of seating. I counted five 2 person tables, four 3 person round tables, a five seat counter overlooking the street, at least 4 outdoor tables, and one large 8 person seated table. So yes there are plenty of seats and outlets! An added plus is that there are plenty of bike racks so you can lock your bike safely! TLDR: This cafe is for: Anyone! I would 10/10 come back because of the aesthetic, drink selection and overall vibe of the cafe. Wifi: broadsheet (all lowercase) Coffee?: Delicious! Would recommend the cappuccino for 4.28. This is Boston's one true coffee roaster. If you're a coffee obsessive and/or experimentalist and love brewing coffee at home, this is where you should get your beans. They edge out other outstanding Boston fixtures like Gracenote and George Howell, and got me to give up on a Blue Bottle subscription I had for over a decade. They source and roast beans with a spectacular degree of perfectionism, and bring this mentality to preparing espresso drinks in their lovely cafe. I only wish they stayed open later, but otherwise this place is best of the best. read more

I've had their coffee beans before (which were beautiful) so was very excited to visit Broadsheet when I was in Cambridge and they did not disappoint. Ofcourse it's currently take out only, but the staff were incredibly patient and welcoming, which is always wonderful start at these nicer coffee roasters. They had an incredible Geisha single origin offering too which worked incredibly well in their cappuccino - it had an bright, almost orange blossom like taste that was very memorable. They also bake their own pastries in house, and I have to say their croissants were delicious too. Overall I highly recommend this spot, get their beans too if you brew coffee at home! read more

You can't walk or drive down Kirkland Ave. without noticing the huge, Instagram-worthy "COFFEE" neon sign out front of Broadsheet Coffee Roasters. Luckily, Broadsheet Coffee Roasters has both style and substance. $3.25 is fairly expensive for a cup of drip coffee--Boston prices at the Cambridge/Somerville line--but, from perusing their website, they really put a lot of thought & effort into sourcing the coffee. You can read all about a particular bean, including tasting notes and comments from the producer. I tend to prefer more rich/chocolate-y coffee, as opposed to the acidic/fruity brew they were serving when I was there, but it was still delicious and packed a good dose of caffeine despite being a darker roast. The ambiance is sleek and modern, clearly catering to a young/hip crowd. With the huge windows facing out onto Kirkland Ave., it's great for people-watching. If you're planning on doing work here, charge up before you arrive because I couldn't find any outlets. I'm not sure when they roast the beans, but the roaster is right in the shop--I always love the smell of roasting coffee! The breakfast & lunch menu is mostly Middle Eastern-inspired. I didn't get to try the food because the kitchen closes at 2pm. I'm not sure how I feel about the combo of falafel & coffee, but I will definitely sample it another time. Broadsheet - I went to you for the first time today. I had an overall very good experience. Let me highlight why. The aesthetic is beautiful. The interior of this coffeeshop is Instagram worthy and carefully considered. The thought behind the design here goes a really long way in providing a comfortable experience. Even the ice cubes are perfectly cubed! My friend and I had a cappuccino, green tea, and 2 brunch plates. We were satisfied with everything, the flavors were balanced and locally sourced. The design of the food seems very intentional - a good balance of vegan and gf options too! The only reason for knocking off a star is the price tag. It costs us $40 for two drinks and two breakfast plates and really it just cant be justified no matter how you look at it. Anyway, I'd definitely come back here to work or meet with a friend! The chai was esp great- not too sweet! Would definitely come here again for a light brunch. The space itself is really light, airy, modern - great place to relax with a friend or a book. For working: I was disappointed because I had come here for the purpose of getting some work done. The WiFi didn't work for me after about 10 minutes, and there weren't any plugs anywhere. Also there are just a few tables available which generally look like they are reserved for larger parties; everyone else had to make due with either counter areas or shared small tables, which aren't terrible but not the best set up for working. I'll admit that when I saw a new coffee roaster coming into the area, I was excited. I was a little bit let down though after coming here and trying it out. I'll admit that I haven't had the food here (from the limited menu), so this review is really just about the actual coffee. First, the iced coffee is just that--hot coffee that is iced. I'm not a coffee snob or too particular about what coffee I drink, but I can tell the difference between good and bad coffee, especially after having cold brew coffee. The iced coffee just tastes flat and watered down. I've also had an americano here, which was standard but nothing too notable. Also, their homemade almond milk is an additional charge, which after already ordering and not realizing almond milk wasn't at the stand by the counter, was annoying. I have to say I was a little let down by my experience here in general. If I lived next to this coffee place, sure, I'd come back out of convenience, but I don't know that I'll make the trek to this place specifically anytime soon. read more

Came on a sunday afternoon and it had lots of people hanging out but the place is quite ample with some outdoor seating too so we were able to find seating super easily. Noted their menu features special lunch / brunch items that differ from your typical coffee shop with mediterranean fare incorporated in their baked goods too! Tried two iced coffees with milk and sugar (they put it in for you which I appreciate) and a tahini brownie + feta zatar savory scone. Their iced coffee was really good and floral most definitely not acidic but not overly cold / not enough ice which is just a preference. Brownie had sesame seeds throughout and was super fudgy, would recommend. The savory scone was good and was actually a scone (not a dried dough chunk like many people call scones) as it had buttery layers and had risen properly when baked. The servers also bring your coffees to you which is super nice. Overall loved the vibe of the place and the servers / employees were very pleasant as well. Been back here a couple more times now. Regarding the coffee, my husband thought it was just ok, on par with Stumptown coffee. Apparently their cold brew isn't actually cold brew, it's hot coffee brewed then chilled. Or at least that's what the barista said. As a coffee roasting place you'd think they'd have proper cold crew. I tried their hot chocolate, which I am a connoisseur of, and it was sadly disappointing. I tasted more sugar than chocolate, and it was only luke warm. Finally the barista had said the smaller size was 12oz but the mug looked no bigger than 8oz to me. On to the food, we've tried their coffee cake a couple of times now. It's fairly dense, but the cake was more moist the 2nd time we tried it. Unfortunately the folks behind the counter didn't know if it contained nuts, which I'd think is a fairly standard thing they should know for people with allergies. I was hoping to try their breakfast sandwiches but on the weekends they only have a brunch menu. We had the frittata and something else with pie in the name but it had egg on top. Both were actually pretty tasty and I'd order them again. So bottom line - my rating remains unchanged. Coffee is ok, other drinks are mediocre, pastries ok, brunch items are tasty and are the only thing I'd come back for. And while the staff are very nice, I think some more training and education on their menu items would help. read more

The soy latte is pretty good! Ppl working here are very friendly. I tried the cashew milk latte -- which was fine but just a bit acid, maybe it was the cashew milk? I had the summer couscous salad, which was okay but not good. It was more of a couscous bowl than an actual salad, yet the menu did not make it explicit. I was pretty excited to visit Broadsheet Coffee Roasters as I had heard good things and seen photos of the food/drinks here. I came with two friends and we arrived at 12:30pm. Although the cafe is pretty small, we didn't have to wait long for a table for just the three of us. Atmosphere: The environment was bright and cheery. I loved that there were large windows and that there was a variety of different seating options (bar seats, round tables, square tables). The cafe also has a no laptop while brunching rule which was great. It is a nice place to chat with friends or read. Food/Drink: We ordered... - Shakshuka, which was beautifully presented. Served in a hot pan, it was the perfect temperature. The eggs were perfectly runny! Unfortunately, the actual dish was watery and lacked the cumin and tomato flavors usually expected - Chai Latte, tasted great, but was not hot - Eggs Benedict with salmon substitute, which was pretty but served cold. While we were expecting the salmon to be cool, the eggs and hollandaise sauce were colder than room temperature. - Black coffee, wasn't hot - Smoked Salmon English Muffin, which looked great but didn't have a lot of salmon (one piece of salmon per half of English muffin). It was served with a side of home fries which were also cold. The baked goods looked tasty and I would like to try those in the future. Came here with 4 other friends around 12:30 on a Saturday. This place isn't too big (maybe 30 or so seats) and there weren't many tables available so we had to split up after waiting a bit. SETTING: Very cute with modern wooden tables; a great place to share a meal or coffee with friends. Lots of natural light. SERVICE: Very friendly and attentive. No complaints. FOOD: The menu has typical coffee house options (i.e. classic breakfast sandwich, oatmeal) but it has a middle eastern influence (shakshuka, halloumi, halva, hummus etc.). I opted for the Levant Breakfast Plate which had a variety of elements (see picture below). At first, when it came, I was a little disappointed because of the lack of protein (I should have known better) but it ended up being delicious. The beet hummus was sweet. The labne spread with the zaatar spices was amazing to dip bread in, the halloumi cheese was rich, and avocado is avocado. Definitely a great way to taste a bunch of middle eastern flavors. I also got a Hibiscus Honey Scone...just think about how yummy that sounds and it's better than that. The outside was crunchy and the inside was dense and soft. It was sweet but not too sweet. My friends who I shared it with kept sneaking bites so I had to keep an eye on them. I also got a taste of my friend's shakshuka. We had just gone to Tatte the day prior and what I will say is that this shakshuka was thicker (less watery) and spicier but the tomatoes tasted less fresh than Tatte. The Tatte bread is also way better but they gave you more bread here. Sounds like a couple of options for a shakshuka taste-off. I really want to come back and try the Toasted Oatmeal and the Stuffed French Toast. Those looked delicious too. Tip: Don't come in a big group...better for 2-4 read more

Unlike the pictures suggest on yelp, this cafe NO LONGER SELLS MEALS! You can still by pastries, but there is no food menu like the pictures on google maps suggest. I came to this coffee shop based on a recommendation I received from a facebook group, and while I was disappointed I couldn't get one of their delicious looking lunch items that I saw in the pictures of this location, I still loved my overall experience at Broadstreet. The coffee shop had an open and inviting vibe, and it was nice to see people really taking advantage of it by working out of there (I saw a few people on their laptops, so I imagine they have wifi). The latte I ordered was $5 and was the best latte I've had in my four years living in Boston, the perfect amount of milk, the taste and aromatics of fresh ground coffee beans, beautiful coffee art, and served in these cozy large mugs! DISCLAIMER: This was my first time ordering an oatmeal meal, but wow, the toasted oatmeal here was excellent! It was warm, very filling, and sweet (not overly so) with maple syrup. The cashew milk was really good, and I loved the crunchiness of cashew nuts in the oatmeal. Incredibly well-balanced in flavors and textures, wow, just wow. Really hits the spot for breakfast! Espresso was good, too. Matcha latte was great, according to my sister, but just a warning: it's not sweet at all, just bitter. That's a true matcha latte - not sweet at all, just bitter.
