I made this account specifically so I could review this place. I've been going here since I was in elementary school (I'm 17 now). It's always been a special morning when we got Broadway for breakfast. They're a similar restaurant to Zak's Diner; with great food and their signature Homefries (that could sometimes use a bit more seasoning). You can get their Homefries anytime, even after breakfast, but their quality isn't as good as fresh in the morning. On top of just the food, the have amazing service. The staff is always happy for a quick chat or there for a good recommendation. In terms of speed, it depends on when you come, but provided you know what you want, it can be as little as 5 minutes (the time it'd take to drive to the store). Now to the Ambiance. The place is inspired by NYC's Broadway (specifically their Musicals) so the restaurant's walls are decorated accordingly. Overall, this is one of my favourite restaurants in all of Ottawa, and probably my favourite one for eating breakfast. My only qualm is asking that the Homefries receive more seasoning, but that is something so minor that it shouldn't result in the loss of a star from my review, and similarly it only really happens when I order takeout. Edit: I forgot to mention that from what I've seen, the owners are great people. Some of their staff have worked for over 10 years (some over 20), and they still have good things to say of their bosses (the staff, I mean), which is not something you tend to see. Interesting place ... the staff was very friendly . We were there on Saturday around noon time they had a breakfast menu and lunch menu. They do not take reservations and we had to wait for a table . The selection was good. We all order from the breakfast menu. I ordered the scrambled eggs with bacon, sauce potatoes, toast and coffee. The eggs were not scrambled it was a greasy omelet. The bacon was crispy . The potatoes were good because I asked for them to be well done which were good . Yes they do serve Heinz ketchup which is a must when serving crispy potatoes. The waffles with bananas and Nutella was good. The others complained that there eggs and potatoes were very greasy. Next time we go back we will ask to be easy on the grease. Walked in today on a Friday night during the Blue Jays game and it was adorable seeing all the servers wear a Jays shirt. Great atmosphere. Food: the food was pretty standard, they have fish n chips, pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, nachos, etc. I ordered myself a burger with fries and it was delicious. The burger was quite big and they were generous with their fries. My only critique is that it was quite over salted and I would have liked it if they could have let me salt it myself. The great thing about the burger is that it had some substantial pieces of bacon, it was fluffy with fresh tomatoes and lettus and the burger was pretty hefty. My friends ordered the quesadillas and they weren't cheap with their chicken. Which was great to see! Service: the service was pretty standard, nothing standard or special. Our food came quite quickly, but we actually had to ask for glasses of water which was quite surprising, usually at any restaurant I go to, we automatically get water when we sat down. There was no small talk with our server, she was definitely all business. One small issue I had was that she gave us very little time to order food, as soon as we sat down she asked us what we wanted when I had not even touched my menu yet... but other than that, food and drinks were timely. Atmosphere: the atmosphere was quite nice, Broadways has both a bar and a dining area and the dining area was quite busy and loud. They were playing old sports games all day and it was fun to see some of the past Jays and Redblacks games. Extras: one really cool thing about this Broadways is that they have trivia that you can do with the family! Just ask the server to participate. All in all, great place to go if you want some pretty standard bar food. I've been here before for breakfast and ive found breakfast is much better (huge portions) than dinner. read more

Went to Broadways on a Friday night. It was not busy at all which was nice. We got inside and were seated. The server was nice but very slow and did not check on us very often. The young teenagers that were wiping down the tables were talking near our table and they were swearing and talking about inappropriate sexual things. It was very rude. Besides the hostess at the entrance door not being very welcoming nor polite, the waitress for our table was an absolute pleasure to have had. She was very welcoming, friendly, and efficient. A very family friendly environment. They had crayons and colouring pages for our little ones to keep busy while we waited for our orders. Our meals came out in a very acceptable timeframe, despite how busy their mornings are for breakfast. I ordered the "take 2" and it was delicious, I've also added a photo and for everyone to see, just to get an idea of the generous portion size of that plate. Very satisfying! Place is packed on the weekend so be prepared to wait- though service on our visit was efficient and we seated way ahead of the 20 minute wait. Everyone polished off their plates so I know it was a good choice. Lots of a la carte egg and meat choices so all had exactly what they wanted for portion size. I don't really remember being to Broadway's any other time than breakfast. I've gotten their Broadway Omelette, California Benedict, BSTS Benedict (bacon, spinach, tomato, and Swiss cheese), Breakfast Poutine, and one of their combination "Take" platters with eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, homefries, and toast. The Breakfast Poutine was one of the first dishes I tried, and I remember it being made with shredded mozzarella instead of cheese curds, which I don't quite consider true poutine. It was pretty greasy and heavy, with the amount of hollandaise sauce they put on the massive serving of homefries, and even though I love hollandaise, it was just too much. The omelette and benedicts had a nice mix of ingredients and tasted good, but nothing special. The Take platter (I can't remember which one exactly) was a lot of food, and I liked that they included bacon, ham, AND sausage, but the price reflected it as well. Prices vary depending on how much/how little you want, and whether you're looking for something simple vs. lots of variety on the same plate. I think the best part of their breakfast is their homefries - they're crispy and flavored with onion, but I think I prefer them better by themselves to dip in ketchup, and not with any kind of hollandaise or gravy. Jonny Canuck's is very comparable in flavor - overall better value, but smaller selection. Broadway's seems to be the go-to for weekend breakfast/brunch for people of all ages. At this time of the day, you'll find large families gatherings with grandparents and babies, newly married couples, and groups of hungover young adults in hoodies and sunglasses. It can get pretty loud, so I would not suggest it for an intimate meal. There's usually a line, but the wait isn't usually very long. There's always a crowd. The service is also quick, but don't expect good demeanor or top notch service all of the time. All in all, I think Broadway's is overrated, though pretty convenient - not the best, but not the worst, and when you can't decide on any other place, there's likely Broadway location nearby. read more

We've had our on and off days with "genuinely happy" servers and majority of the times that we've gone there the host/hostess at the entrance aren't very welcoming. Breakfast so big it's perfect for sharing! Hubby and I occasionally come here for a weekend breakfast date and share the "take 2" with an upgrade to French toast. One breakfast between two is filling but not gut bursting, tasty, and a great start to the day for under $20! The eggs come prepared as requested; we had scrambled eggs which are cooked almost like a light omelet with no filling. The hash browns are quite tasty but they are cooked with onion that is a little on the raw side for my preference. Yummy sausage, bacon, and lightly buttered toast. The French toast comes with a sprinkle of cinnamon which is delicious. My only disappointment would by the maple flavored syrup - not real maple syrup but I suppose for the price, we can't quite have it all. The breakfast is very good but if I were eating alone, the prices for the smaller meals seem a bit high for just one person. I've only been here for breakfast. I think breakfast places now-a-days are overpriced in general so when I go, I order something I wouldn't be making at home. My last experience at Broadway was OK. The service was fairly quick, it wasn't too busy (week day morning). I had the breakfast poutine with scrambled eggs and sausage. I liked the seasoning on the home fries and I liked that it was hollandaise sauce instead of gravy! The serving was fairly big so unlike other places I think the price for this was good. I would return only for the breakfast poutine. I don't think anything else on the menu (and what my friends had ordered) make it anything special or better than anywhere else. read more

Broadway's breakfast more than definitely deserves a full 5 stars. Never once have I eaten breakfast there and been anything less than extremely delighted, full, and happy. However, their lunch and dinner does not deserve the same review. Frankly, it is mediocre at best. Tried to go here for lunch not long ago, and while I've been going here for more than 20 years, I will not be going back again. With this entire bogus Covid-19 situation going on, myself as well as other family members have medical exemptions that don't allow us to wear masks. Myself personally, I had stage 4 lung cancer when I was 9 years old which left me with damaged lungs from the cancer, chemo and radiation. As a result I am a lot more inclined to contract lung infections than the average person which can happen from from wearing a mask; specifically bacterial pneumonia. The manager at the time was extremely rude and treated myself and my mother like we were some type of intrusive foreign entities in comparison to, in his words, "my other customers", like we were 2nd class citizens. So if you want to be discriminated against, publicly humiliated in front of the rest of the customers in the restaurant and treated like you are "less than" the rest of compliant customers, then broadways bar and grill in barrhaven is the right place for you. If you have or had any type of medical condition that has left a long lasting impact on your body and health and that also leaves you un able to wear any type of face covering, you are not welcome at this restaurant; they do not want you there. If your medical issue wasn't enough to deal with in life, they will treat you like dirt and kick you out of the restaurant so all of the other normal customers feel safe. read more

We went to Broadway's for breakfast. The portions are large however lacking in taste. The hollandaise sauce was runny and tasteless. Home fries looked amazing but tastes like B.O. and were soggy on inside. Scrambled eggs were over cooked and looked like an omelette. The price per plate was $14.95 which is hefty compared to other places. Oh if you want Rye toast instead of white/wheat it's an extra 60 Cents. We had bad smells on our coats when we left.
