The room was so bad that we asked to move and were given another room that, although not as bad, was still very poor. However, the staff were very pleasant throughout and very helpful (I hope this is not because it happens all the time!!). The food was another matter. The set menus start at approx £85 which does appear to be a little bit pricey, but do not be put off because the food is absolutely amazing. Intertwined with the 3 courses are another number of smaller courses to really set your pallet dancing. I have never eaten such beautiful and clever food. At the end of the meal I did not feel completely stuffed, but pleasantly full, all washed down with a lovely bottle of red. The food here is amazing, pity the rooms do not live up to the same standards. A good place to go to treat yourself to a wonderful evening of food (just don't stay the night!!).

I complained about the extractor fan being broken (in an internal bathroom with no window) and that the 'non smoking' room STANK of stale cigarette smoke as soon as we arrived. Was given a can of glade and told people smoke in the bathrooms. I had a shower with the bedroom window open and bathroom door open and it set the fire alarm off. The bloke knocked at the door and my partner opened it a crack to see who it was and the man JUST BARGED IN AND STARTED TELLING US OFF WHILE WE WERE BOTH IN A STATE OF UNDRESS. I complained the next day and left and demanded a refund. I emailed their manager and called booking.com twice and it's been a week and I've had no refund, no phone call and only got a reply to my email when I emailed again. Apparently the staff member has been suspended while they investigate. I am appalled at the smell in the hotel and the general condition of the rooms, it is not a four star hotel at all. I am appalled I have had no phone call and that I had to chase the email. The hotel is also in a bad area with enthusiasts of crack cocaine urinating on themselves in the street at night time and there is no parking anywhere near.

We left for a bit to eat and when I returned I expressed these concerns to Ilya. She immediately took action to upgrade our room and send a nice birthday treat and extra blankets. A special shout out to Slava as well for always being so pleasant to interact right. All in all, I think they are still working out some kinks being new, but still a beautiful place in the heart of London.

We specifically chose a hotel in Covent Garden because it was central to many of the sites we intended to visit and allowed us to keep our use of public transportation to a minimum. Because the neighborhood is very popular, there were always people on the street, which made us feel safe. In addition, we found a very pleasant cafe-- one of the chain of Caffe Neros in the city--nearby and had our breakfast there every morning. We were given a first floor room that more than met our needs (and saved us from lugging our bags up the narrow stairs). It was both charming and comfortable. (My wife particularly liked comfort of the bed.) Being that it was April, we were also pleased that we had plenty of heat in the room. Though we were blessed by largely excellent weather while in town, with warm and mostly sunny days, the evenings would get cool and the last thing you'd want would be to return to a chilly room. The staff were very friendly and Sajaad, the hotel's general manager, was very helpful in making recommendations and answering any questions we might have. We look forward to returning to The Fielding on our next trip to London.
