Let's start with the meh. The hotel is a bit run down. My room is very, very small and a bit musty…read more My thermostat makes my room either freezing or I have to turn it off, and the temperature it indicates seems to have nothing to do with the output. The location is remote. But holy bejeezus...the restaurant! Apparently they hired a new chef recently, and my dinner was unbelievable! I never write reviews, but this was too good not to. A delightful amuse bouche...boiled egg in some sort of bread crumb coating. Dinner started with wonderful beets with a goat cheese mousse, and followed with bream on a light and flavorful risotto...everything was delicious and just perfect. Great wine pairing with a knowledgeable maitre d' who seems to double as a sommelier. There were four parties in the restaurant (granted a Tuesday night)...why are people not eating here?!?!? Perhaps it's because of the marketing, or lack thereof. I searched on google and this restaurant does not appear...it only shows a hotel at this location. I searched on a Yelp, and this restaurant seems not to exist. I had to write a review on the hotel. To share my comments. To Taplow House hotel management...please name this restaurant and promote it! To everyone else...eat here! If you have to stay here to do so, it's worth it. To be clear, the hotel rating is 3-stars, and the restaurant is a 5+-star.

Stayed for the first time on a business trip, so just a quick overnight. Front desk service was…read moreefficient when checking in. Room was nice and windows opened for some fresh air. Free wifi for the first 4 hrs but then you have to schlep downstairs to get a pass card for 3£. They should consider just giving them with the room. Ordered room service which was fast. Food was okay, but just had soup and sandwich so wasn't expecting a gourmet meal. Big downside for me is no workout room. Breakfast buffet was included in the rate and seemed decent, but it didn't open until 7 am and I had to hit the road. Maybe consider opening at 6 or 6:30. Clearly this place is for weddings and such, but I would stay here again on business travel .

A refurbished old fishing lodge with all of the quirks…read moreof old buildings (e.g., freezing cold showers the first couple days, spotty wifi and an ethnic outlet on the wall opposite the desk), but the service made up for any of these inconveniences. They were very accommodating to special requests. For example, I'm lactose intolerant, so after they heard this, they went out and bought soya milk for my breakfasts. They also made me special eggs every morning (without the milk that was found in the scrambled eggs on buffet).
