That level of care and attention is so rare these days. What really sets him apart is his approach to treatment. Instead of immediately pushing for surgery, he offered regenerative medicine and carefully explained everything along the way. Thanks to his expertise and thoughtful care, my son was able to heal in a way that im confident would not have been offered to him anywhere else, avoiding a major surgery and months of recovery. It's beyond clear Dr. Ohlson genuinely cares about his patients and their long-term well-being, not just quick fixes. We are beyond grateful for his knowledge, compassion, and dedication. We would recommend him without hesitation to anyone looking for a doctor that truly puts patients first. Can't thank you enough!

They remain at 5 stars!…read more Surgery was an absolute breeze. In at 9, on the way home by 950 and numb until around 7PM! Easy care instructions and a two week follow up was scheduled. Today, stitches came out and Ann took care of me. She was lovely and made the process quick and painless. I will not hesitate to visit again should I have any other hand or wrist issues. Thank you!!

The 'lump' on my left thumb had become increasingly painful and unsightly. Not that I'm vain …read more.. lol ... but, it was distorted and hurt like crazy. Five years ago, I saw Dr. Eric Angermeier to have a cyst drained on the first joint (near the nail) on my left thumb. Unfortunately, as Dr. Angermeier predicted, 'something' came back with a vengeance. I learned that Dr. Angermeier left MUSC and with a partner, Kyle Kokko, MD, Ph.D, opened the Hand Institute of Charleston. With its main office in Summerville, Dr. Angermeier, fortunately for me, sees patients, alternating Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Mount Pleasant in a office located in the Mullis Building, where the practitioners are affiliated with East Cooper Medical Center. He was not surprised to see me again and remarked, "Oh, my." The X-ray revealed that there was no cartilage left in the joint and many bone spurs. My only option was to undergo a painful procedure which would remove the joint, clean out the arthritis, remove the bone spurs and insert pins to straighten out and hold the bones in my finger together. Ugh. Though this sounded really nasty, I made an appointment for the procedure two weeks later. I slept through the surgery waking up to find my thumb and half my left arm in a hard cast and heavy bandaging. It's done! Now, for the recovery. No cooking, no cleaning, no lifting, no driving, arm elevated, keep it dry. I can do this. I go back to the Hand Institute 11 days following the procedure to get the stitches removed (ouch) and begin occupational therapy. Oh my. Dr. Eric Angermeier is the best. He's kind, proficient and professional. Not yet convinced? His whole team left MUSC to join hm in his new practice. What a tribute. Need an orthopedic hand and wrist surgeon? You need not look further than the Hand Institute of Charleston.
