Less than mediocre- This college bar/restaurant was very poor. They didn't have soup because their soup machine was broken. They only had one brand of scotch.The waiter was very nice but completely untrained. Two of us had fish n chips. We ordered an order of onion rings for the table and the plate was half full. The fish was below average and the fries were okay. No silverware- styrofoam cups and plastic fork and knives. They must sell a lot of beer because the food was disappointing. read more

Delicious champagne slushes aside, the bar is pretty miserable. It might as well be spelled BROney's and have a sign that says "BROney's Alumni Grill, Sponsored by Axe Body Spray, Sideways Visors, and Spray Tans". I haven't been in town in a few years since graduating, but from what I hear from friends still in Athens, it hasn't changed. Also, I had a few single female friends get harassed there and management sort of just did nothing about it. So. Yeah. If that sounds appealing to you, check out Broney's! Worst service ever! I've been here multiple times and each time I wait over 45 minutes for my food. On my last visit everyone's food came out and a different times. One person in our group didn't get his food until everyone was finished and half of the party's food was cold. They also had no remorse when we complained. Stay away at all costs! read more

Bar staff don't listen to customers when there's a Cavs playoff game on and Saturday night's dance music is blaring instead of the game. I looked forward to coming here since my husband and I were in town for the weekend, but I was highly disappointed when we asked staff members to turn the music down and the game volume up and were ignored. It was a Sunday afternoon and the only people in the establishment were there to see the game. These alumni will consider going elsewhere next time we're in town. read more

this is the absolute worst 'grill' if you can even call it that. Food sucks, there's always a wait, and the place smells like cat pee in the evening. Music is incredibly loud and the last time i was there our table never got wiped down and they ran out of limes for our coronas. I completely agree with Rob D. when he said that Broney's lacks character. The word I would describe the interior of Broney's is "cold". It's just a bunch of concrete and wood. Most nights the music is earsplittingly loud, which could be understandable when it's packed, but this is the case even when there are 15 people in the place. I will say that Broney's has very good weekday drink deals and their beer selection is top-notch. Unless they've changed, it's $2.50 pints of anything on tap on Wednesdays. I really enjoy being able to grab a few pints of good beer when it's warm enough to relax on the patio. When it comes to my choice of bars, Broney's isn't at the top of my list, but the drink specials and nice patio area keep it as a bar that I'll definitely stop into every once in a while. read more

I wish I would have checked the reviews before eating here. As mentioned in a lot of the other reviews our service was poor to say the least. Yes she took our food and drink order and delivered the check but that was all. My beer glass remained empty at the end of the table for quite some time. I would like to say it was because they were busy but that was not the case all four tables the waitress had looked either not needy or neglected. One bright spot was the Chicken Parmesan and French Dip were good but the fries were quite underdone. When I went to the wait staff station and asked for some a bit more crispy they came out just as quickly and not much more done. read more

I won't waste your time: Kiarash Z's review is pretty spot-on. Even on a Sunday night, with few other patrons, it still took an inordinate amount of time to get the attention of the bartender. But that champagne slushy (which was recommended by my friend and our sole reason for stopping)...it is the stuff dreams are made of. Admittedly, I have a sweet tooth, but sweetness aside it was still outstanding. I could sit on their patio and drink those for hours on end. And $5 for a pretty big glass, a bargain to boot... Don't know when I will be in Athens next, but you will probably see me at Broney's with one (or two-judge if you want) champagne slushies in hand. read more

The first time I ever went here I had the worst experience. It was during moms weekend and they were super busy and basically it's a free for all for tables and booths. They don't have a hostess which makes the whole serving process not run smoothly for customers or employees. We grabbed a table pretty quickly. But for 30 minutes not one server came to check if we had menus, drinks or placed an order. My mom had to go track down someone who would serve us. We were really understanding since it was such a busy weekend but customer service is not a top priority and that was pretty clear from the start. read more

Seriously one of the worst experiences stepping into this bar. First of all it's dark as shit I can't fucking see any of my friends or my food (when it finally fucking came) Me and buddy's wanted to check out the Athens well known "Taco Tuesday" before our graduation. I was visiting for a family weekend. My ou bobcat recommended we go to this bar for dinner. Friday, March 32 2017 at 6:00pm. We ordered 1 champagne slushie and 1 loaded margarita to share. Food ordered was a chicken wrap and Philly. Prices for drinks were increases by $2.00 each for the moms weekend. Drinks were good, food was good. Got the bill and saw I was charged for 2 champagne slushies. I flagged down our waitress, Diana W. and brought it to the waitress' attention. DIANE W. complained she was busy and would take $3.00 off my bill. I then informed DIANA W. that I was overcharged $5.00, as they had raised their price of the slushies for the weekend. DIANA W. gave a heavy breath, took the check back, and brought back a new check. The new check was for the exact same amount, BUT I was charged as 1 slushie and another slushie for seat #2. I brought DIANA W.'S dishonesty to her attention and asked to see the manager. DIANA W. told me the manager was busy cooking. DIANA W. then said she could take $5.00 out of the register and give me that instead of ringing another bill. I accepted that, removed her tip from the bill, and left. read more

My son is a student at OU, our family went there for dinner with a couple of his friends while visiting over a parents weekend. We ordered burgers/sandwiches and fries, the fries must have been salted several times, they were inedible because of the salt. When asked to replace them we were told they were fine. I told the server to try them and she declined. Service was slow, nothing to write home about. Pricey for what you get especially when you cannot eat some of it. They need to step it up. We will not return. Thank God our son is graduating soon. read more

I use to love coming here when i would stay in the area for some motorcycle camping. Service was never awesome, its a college bar, but the atmosphere and brewski's were always solid. Unfortunately they added safe spaces for cupcakes and gave into bullies like Rhinegeist Brewery. Get rid of the safe spaces and cupcakes and I will be back! Otherwise, nothing to see here. read more

By Athens standards, this place is relatively clean. I actually like this place, but at times they leave a lot to be desired. I walked in here for a Saturday afternoon sandwich and to watch a few minutes of the Ohio V Kent football game. I got here at about 9 o'clock and waited 15 minutes for a server to come over, after waiting a while I went up to one of the servers walking around and asked for a server to come over. The girl I talked to said she would send a server over. I waited another 20 minutes and no one came over so I went up to the bar and asked if I could order food there. A little different that a lot of the dive bars in Athens. Not that this place is necessarily better, but it does get pretty dance-y on weekend nights, which is actually kinda fun! The champagne slushies are ridiculously tasty, corny, but true. I think the service is ok, they pretty much get to you when they can. Come here with a group of friends and you'll have fun. The guys here can seem a little skeezy (the whole foreigners-not-used-to-dancing-women-must-touch), and that can get old quick, but it's fun if you've got your own group. read more

After finally getting someone to take our order, it took 90 minutes for the food to come out. We asked to speak to the manager and he was unapologetic and rude. Avoid at all costs. Horrible! This past Sunday my husband, 6 yr old daughter, and myself attended Broney's for lunch. We got there at 1:15pm. We ordered 2 cheeseburgers and a grilled cheese. We did not receive our lunch until 2:15 only to have one of our cheeseburgers burnt and our daughters grilled cheese not made. She received her meal about 10 minutes after we did. Once the server finally came back to our table my husband let her know that it was burnt but to not worry about it- just take it off the bill. The server then went and got the manager and brought him to our table. The manager rudely stated that since he ate some of it (only a 1/4 at the most), we had to pay for it or he was "calling the cops". My husband is a highly decorated soldier and to insult him by telling him he was "calling the cops" was unreal. We were not rude about the situation at all. My husband took the burger into the restraunt and showed it to the manager again who then decided that it was burnt and he took it off the bill. We then paid or $23 dollar bill and still included a $4 tip for a server even though we had to get our own drinks, napkins, silverware, and condiments. We will never return to Broneys and I will be sure to let everyone I know what our experience was like. read more
