I had a horse shipped from Oregon to Michigan and am VERY pleased with how it went. Brook Ledge's quote was "in the middle" of the 3 companies I contacted. The (mostly) good reviews online convinced me to arrange it with Brook Ledge. The drivers (Vance and Christy) were very kind and took good care of my new Fjord gelding. Their communication was excellent! I also got updates from an employee named Kristy while they were on the road- that was so reassuring! Once they arrived at my house, Vance and Christy gave me information about how my new horse had done on the trip. You could tell that these drivers really cared! I highly recommend Brook Ledge for anyone needing a long distance ride for their horse. I shipped a newly purchased horse from PA to GA. The transport began on a Saturday morning and concluded on Sunday afternoon. I have mixed reviews from the experience. Positives: - The initial encounter was very positive. Brian was pleasant and was successful in getting my horse scheduled much sooner than I had anticipated. - The driver bringing my horse on the final leg of the transport from the overnight location in SC was also very pleasant and communicated with me during the transport. - My horse arrived without signs of stress or injury. Cons: - I had no communication whatsoever about my horse, either his actual location or his welfare, for the first 24 hours of the transport. I was advised by the farm owner in PA at 11:00 on Saturday morning my horse had been received by Brook Ledge. Until noon the next day, I knew nothing else. - On Saturday afternoon, I received a call from a coordinator in SC (where my horse was to change trucks) advising my horse would arrive late morning on Sunday. (He did not provide any specific information about my horse.) By noon on Sunday, my horse had not arrived, nor had I received any updates. I called Customer Service (Lexington office) who contacted the final driver (mentioned above). He contacted me promptly and advised my horse would not be arriving until approximately 3:30. He apologized and stated he did not know anything about a late morning arrival. My thought: The fluid nature of this business is certainly understandable. However, I believe it is reasonable to expect a quick update if estimated arrival times have changed. - I called the office in Oley, PA, to offer feedback on the experience. The woman to whom I was transferred did not seem at all receptive to my concerns. I perceived she felt my expectations for communications in route were unreasonable. She stated she had previously driven horses, commenting the drivers' primary job is to focus on the road, and they are often too tired to give updates when they are done. She advised someone would contact me later to discuss. I have heard nothing further from the company. My thought: This horse represents my heart and a substantial monetary investment. I agree I do not want the driver hauling my horse to engage in texting or other distractions while driving. However, I was advised multiple extended stops would be made for hay and water in transit. I struggle to understand why, on one of these stops, someone could not at least once in 24 hours have sent some form of an update. Would I use this company again? I would likely investigate other options first. read more

I shipped a thoroughbred mare from upstate NY to Florida. August was not a popular time to ship according to all other shippers I called and they had no idea when they would be shipping in the future. I called Brook Ledge in Oley, PA. Everyone I spoke to was courteous and accommodating. They gave me an approximate idea of when they would be shipping next, which was within 2 weeks of my call. They called me with a date within the quoted time. I have nothing but high praises for them. Everyone was polite and answered all my questions.They arrived exactly when they said they would to pick up the horse, and delivered her in perfect condition, at exactly the time they said they would be there. They did cost a little more than other shippers but it was worth it! I will be calling them again when the horse ships back up to NY. I'm VERY happy with Brook Ledge. read more

I love the drivers and professionals who transport the horses at Brook Ledge. Unfortunately, their office staff are arrogant and cranky women. I called in my credit card information to Leslie Stevenson and she was rude, condescending and impatient. I am a highly educated person and she treated me like I was the village idiot, saying things like "I do a hundred of these bills of lading every day and nobody else has ever had a question" and "that's what you entered on the form, it's right there in front of you," when I kindly asked who they would notify of pickup and arrival times (their old antiquated text-based "fill-in" shipping form was not clear on who the "contact person" was in general.) She was snippy and acted like she didn't want to be bothered with a 2 minute phone call for a $2,400 shipment. Not impressed. read more

I gave Brook Ledge (PA dispatch) 1 star so I could leave a review. I'd rather give them negative 1 star if I could! I had spent A LOT of time researching horse transport companies (Bob Hubbard, American, Nationwide, Equine Express, etc etc). I liked all of the positive things I saw about Brook ledge. For peace of mind and good customer service, I didn't care that everyone said they were more expensive. So, excited that I had finally made a decision and felt confident due to all of the reviews, I made the call to Brook Ledge. I initially called the Florida number ((800) 955-7654), but was told I needed to called the PA number instead. My horse needed transport from Del Mar, CA to Oregon so I didn't know which one to call. I then called the Brook Ledge PA number ((800) 523-8143). I was given to dispatch. A man answered. I told the man that I needed a horse transport quote, I told him the from and to info...I stated that I didn't know the exact date, but gave him the thereabouts. I also said I could be flexible if they were full. The man (a Brook Ledge customer service professional) replied with, "The gal responsible for giving the quotes is next to me wit her brains splattered all over her desk. Give me your email hon and she can email you later on with the quote". Annoyed at being referenced to as 'Hon', I was quickly trying to decipher what the Brook Ledge representative meant by: "...her brains are splattered all over her desk..." Did that mean she has yet to have her morning coffee and is not functioning well? Was she overwhelmed by a busy morning of customers? Hung-over? Did she commit suicide? I quickly pondered his explanation (what type of image pops into your mind if an important office service member is described in this fashion?) I gave him my email address and told him I looked forward to the quote, but that the gal (with her brains splattered all over her desk) didn't have to rush for me. I had no urgency. I proceeded to tell him that I was impressed with all of the reviews I had seen on their company. But, I did have one question in regards to something that concerned me. He replied, "What hon?" ....I continued, "I was wondering if the company is aware of the video on YouTube that comes up when you Google Brooke Ledge Horse Transport Review?" Anyway, I simply asked the Brook Ledge employee on the phone if they were aware of the video and if that driver is no longer working for the company. ....now, it is my assumption that the minimal standard basic customer service representative (dispatcher, secretary, employee, *insert any company worker title here* would reply something like: "Yes ma'm, we are aware of it and I can assure you that it is not representative of our company. We provide excellent safe service you can trust." .....Or something like that. A more simplistic and succinct answer would have sufficed as well (i.e.): "We fired that driver". This Brook Ledge employee responded with the trashiest, most unprofessional answer. His answer in no way encouraged confidence, trust or class. I imagined this man to be a toothless, greasy haired gruff, uneducated and in the process of downing his 3rd Coors beer of the morning. Maybe this is why the woman, his co-worker, had her brains splattered all over her desk? She works with an idiot. Homer Simpson has more smarts and class. Basically, this man laughed and laughed. He babbled all sorts of trashy ridiculousness that just made himself and the company look worse. "Hon, we have over 200 drivers and we can't bother to care which one that was...." Hon, do you know how busy we are?" "Hon, do you think we can worry about that?" "Hon, have you heard about all the other companies out there? Do you think we care?... they are much worse...." On and on he went.... .....Ummmmm YES I would think that the owner of the company would care!!!! I interrupted him and said, "Interesting that you think it's funny". Then, I hung up. Needless to say, I never received the email with the quote. Maybe the lady really did have her brains scattered all over the desk? *I'd like to add here that I am sure that this company has excellent caring drivers. I am sure many transports go perfectly. Brook Ledge picked up a thoroughbred mare that I had purchased in Louisiana and brought her to Mendocino California. Everything went smoothly from the initial booking to the horse's delivery. Traveled most of the way in a big rig and stayed over night in one of Brook Ledge's transfer facilities. Taken the last leg over a road full of hair pin turns in a smaller trailer with a comfortable box stall. Horse arrived in excellent conditions. Kept informed of the horse's progress across the country the whole time. read more
