The vets are and staff are pleasant but the prices are ridiculously high. Case in point -- today Aug 13th I got 21 tablets of Cefpodoximine (200 mg) for my dog for $133.45 at the Brookfield Animal Hospital. At Chewy, 15 tablets are $22.50. Twice the price would be one thing, but this is over the TOP! I like others among the reviews don't write reviews as a matter of course, but this cannot go unannounced. I would not bring my pet to Brookfield Animal Hospital. I recently brought my Cat, to this Vet because he was vomiting. The Vet mentioned that this could be his teeth, or another condition with digestion issues. She encouraged me to have his teeth cleaned and checked first, as she could not treat him until this was done. I trusted her with confidence. I was unsure if I should do this, however, I wanted my cat to get better. Unfortunately, he passed away the day after surgery. I am heartbroken as he was everything to me. She did not give me any other alternative treatments for this cat, and pushed me into getting this surgery. I am sorry I ever brought my Cat to this Vet. She said she would treat him with Prednisone after the surgery but now he is gone. My cat had to die at the expense of poor vetenarian practices. My cat never needed dental surgery, as after the surgery, she immediately said that it was Not his teeth causing vomiting. My precious Cat, may you rest in peace. read more

While the vets at this practice are technically proficient at what they do, over the ten-and-a-half-year period I went to this practice it grew tremendously and it became impossible to get an emergency visit when you need one. I requested an appointment when my dog was in serious medical distress and was simply told "no, they cannot see her." There was no effort whatsoever to schedule any kind of appointment afterwards. My dog ended up dying the same day and was treated with greater compassion and kindness by the local emergency vet we brought her to, even though they were strangers. Brookfield's behavior was extremely callous and cold. They failed us when we needed them the most. read more

I'd like to start by saying that the front office staff at Brookfield Animal Hospital is excellent. They are caring, helpful and knowledgeable. They were super during this ordeal. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for all of the practicing vets at Brookfield. Our beloved dog was having coughing issues and was treated by two Drs at Brookfield. The second Dr disagreed with the treatment prescribed by the initial Dr and put our dog on a very aggressive amount of medication. When we called to say the meds weren't working, we were told to increase them. Finally on Sunday we were forced to find an emergency clinic. Initially we were told that our pup would make a full recovery, but unfortunately, the very next day we found out that the previous meds had complicated his condition. We lost him the next day. We have lots of animals and I know very well that mistakes happen and that nothing can bring our pup back. I have also learned that if vets have differing opinions, even within the same practice, you need another opinion. What did surprise me was the callous response from the vets at Brookfield. We have heard nothing from any of them although they are well aware of what transpired. We have, however, paid the very large bill from Brookfield and the emergency vet. We miss our little guy every day and the hardest part is knowing that it probably didn't need to happen. read more

DO NOT BOARD YOUR DOG HERE. We've taken our dog here for boarding in the past and these past couple times were absolutely atrocious. On their boarding form, they ask for special instructions for diet/meds and how much/when to give. They failed to follow those instructions 3x now. Whether it was when to give her treats or TLC and now meds. You can't call yourself a hospital if you fail to give my dog her medicine. That is extremely cruel and is the biggest reason why I am writing this review. The past few times we have not received our texts and pictures for the extra TLC time we pay for. They comped us for the TLC pics we did not receive the past 3 times, great, cool. No actual proof she had that TLC time, not to mention this time her blanket was never taken out of her overnight bag and the treats I told you to give her and medicine were still in the bag. I picked up my dog today, her back leg has a limp and she looks like she's in pain, I now have to go to her actual vet and get that checked out because their staff whose evidentially lazy young adults failed to look after my dog properly over the weekend. Unhappy and dissatisfied. Lost my future business. 1 star because they comped me for the time she was there. read more

I have brought my dogs to Brookfield Animal Hospital for almost 6 years. The vets are caring and explain all the options. In my experience, they do not push all kinds of unnecessary tests on you. The techs are terrific w my pets. Finally, the office staff is fabulous. They are great about getting a convenient and timely appointment set up. They remember us from visit to visit (as do the doctors and techs). We feel very much at home there! PS. Just did a price comparison on some prescription food and it was the same price as a popular online outlet. Very glad to see that. read more

Idk where those good google reviews came from but we had the worst experience. I never leave any reviews good or bad. But this time I did because I don't want any more fur babies going through what mine went through. My baby's foot was deff broken. All I got was 2 weeks of medicine and her foot is like completely crooked. They said it wasn't broken and didn't put her a cast. I called back after 2 weeks and they wanna recharge me! They denied medication to my terminally ill dog because she was not up to date on her exam. She had been seen at the emergency clinic because Brookfield could not fit her in. When I asked why they would with hold medication that is vital to keeping her comfortable they said it was for "legal reasons". When I asked for the meds to hold her over until she could have the exam they said No. Obviously they put money over my dog's well being. Oh, and she was a patient at Brookfield Animal Hospital. Brookfield Animal Hospital and their wonderful and caring staff are the BEST! They are always there for us and when we have an emergency will do everything they can to fit us in as soon as possible. Not only do they have the best husband and wife team but their other doctors are amazing too and the vet techs and front desk staff are the best! Hands Down! I was very surprised to read some of the negative comments about Dr Baxter. We've been going to Brookfield Animal Hospital for years and have always been treated with professionalism and compassion from all of the doctors. Most recently we've been seeing Dr Baxter. She's been wonderful and always calls us to follow up and make sure our dog is doing ok and explains everything throughly. The staff is friendly and efficient. Sometimes they recommend extra blood work which isn't essential, I have never felt pressured. We have a senior dog who needs a little extra loving care and I feel like the staff takes good care of him. read more

We have brought our dogs to Brookfield Animal Hospital for at least 15 years and have never had an issue scheduling an appointment. We are now getting a new puppy. As part of bringing home our new pup I called for an appointment for the initial puppy exam. Only to find out they were unable to see my pup for 3 weeks. I indicated we had been a customer for many years and surprised they could not see me sooner than that. They wouldn't budge. Kind of sad customer service for faithful customers of many years. For some of us, our pets are beloved members of our families. That's why I am deeply troubled by what happened at my first and only visit today at Brookfield Animal Hospital. After speaking with the tech before the visit with the veterinarian, the veterinarian came into the room and without speaking to me immediately vaccinated my pet. It happened so quickly that I thought he was actually examining her! I asked him what had he done when I saw the needle and he told me that he had given my pet a shot. He could tell that I was visibly upset and I questioned him about his actions, which he assumed I had approved without his speaking to me directly based on his conversation with the tech, NOT me. The tech and I had briefly discussed potential vaccines but no final decisions were made by me. As is customary with other reputable veterinarians, they come in and have introductory conversations with the pet parent ESPECIALLY for the first visit before they automatically start injecting pets with chemicals. I was not given an opportunity to ask questions about the necessity of the vaccine, its side effects or potential harm BEFORE he gave her the shot. It was extremely upsetting for me and it felt like both a violation of me and my pet. It should be noted that the vaccine in question was not a foundational vax that my pet needed immediately so there was no urgency necessitating him not speaking with me. Further, I was not offered a treatment plan, or any ongoing care recommendations for my pet, other than answers in response to direct questions. Needless to say, I will NOT be returning. I am just praying that my pet is okay. A note to this practice is to make sure you get clear permission from pet parents before you administer any vaccinations or other procedures to pets - the same courtesy and dignity you would want if it was your own pet family member. read more

I have been bringing my dogs to Dr Dattner and Dr Bogurt mostly, but have been seen by the others on occasion. They are very up to date, ethical and professional. My one dog had so many issues that a different vet that I was going to diagnosed my Am Staff (Baby) with cancer. When trying out Brookfield for a second opinion, 9 years ago. Dr Dattner found what she really had wrong with her and performed surgery at half the cost of the other Vets office. Her quality of life was so much better and she lived close to 5 years past what was originally expected. Then there was Gina, my rescue Pit who has nothing but the best treatment at Brookfield An Hospital and at 16 is playful and happy, wagging her tail upon arrival. My Pug Odie has had 2 surgeries, one for eating a toy that blocked his intestines, almost ruptured. Dr Bogart performed emergency surgery on Odie the next morning and saved him. He was about 5 then and is 10 now. He recently had a mass on his leg removed and I added getting his teeth cleaned while put under already. He came out of surgery fine and the price of everything was less than estimated. The office staff is always friendly, warm and obvious animal lovers, from front desk to vet tech assistants. They have always been accommodating and have great follow up. I moved to Seymour last year from Brookfield and still make the trip to my trustworthy Vet. read more

I am not a regular customer here due to the fact they really seem more interested in recouping the costs of changing this practice. My boyfriend lives practically around the corner from the Brookfield Animal Hospital, so after reading reviews and talking to friends, it seemed like a great fit. My boyfriend inherited a cat after his roommate moved out to get married. He's a rescue cat and is a sweet Maine Coon mix. We took him in to get him checked out and make sure that he had all of his shots (the cat, not my boyfriend ;). The staff there is very friendly and knowledgeable and the cat was great and felt very at ease there. The facility itself is clean and nice. Cat needed a couple of shots and then the vet explained other optional shots/treatments we might think about getting for him (like the test to see if he had feline AIDS or leukemia, stool sample test to test for ringworm, etc). He's an indoor cat, so I didn't think we needed to get many of the suggested tests. The vet was fine with my refusal and really DID NOT PUSH anything on us...however, my boyfriend is a total push-over when it comes to "his baby" so he ended up getting everything she talked about. So...$320 later, we have peace-of-mind that we have a healthy and happy cat and will bring him back in the future for necessary check-ups and are so glad that we have them so close by in case of emergency. read more

Dr. Baxter takes care of my pups as if they were her own. She returns every phone call and takes as much time as is needed to care for my fur babies. I would not trust just anyone to care for my two pups. I am beyond grateful we found her and couldn't imagine what we would do without her!!!! I wouldn't go anywhere else but here for all my dogs needs. Our dog was injured today and couldn't use his back legs, he's 12 years old so of course we called in a panic. When we arrived they were waiting for us in the rain out in the parking lot and knew our dog by name and had a stretcher to bring him in safely. Dr. Britton gave him a full exam and treated us like he was her own dog. They stayed 2 hours late with full staff just to comfort us. He is home, resting and walking slowly with assistance now. I am terribly disappointed with my experience with Brookfield Animal Hospital. Several months ago I noticed my dog was scratching at her muzzle more than usual. I could see some discoloring on her teeth so I call the hospital to get a quote for a tooth cleaning. After a great deal of unwillingness to give a quote, the woman told me a standard cleaning is ~$900 and if there are extractions necessary it's typically ~$2000. I was taken aback by this figure. It seems extremely high to me. So I called a few other veterinarians and found that is a bit high, but not out of whack with others. So I called my mother, in my home state of Michigan and asked that she call her vet to get a quote. A cleaning, including the same exact list of services as the Brookfield Animal Hospital (blood work, anesthetic, etc.) was quoted at $135 and extractions range from $10-100. For obvious reasons I called the hospital back and questioned the price discrepancy. When faced with the question the woman on the line responded, "Sir, you do realize you live in the most expensive area for veterinary services, right?" To which I countered, how can this be justified? Her response was "I guess people just care more about their pets here." This is price gauging. The cost of living in CT is higher than MI but not 7 times higher!!!! Luckily for me, my mother was visiting from Michigan for the weekend, so I sent my little girl home with grandma for a few weeks. I picked her up yesterday, with a total bill just under $300 and the problem is solved, with a savings of ~$1800. read more

I would give this place negative stars! But I have to put 1 to be able to write a review. I brought my ferret Freddy in to the vet and let me just saw this guy (not even a dr) is the most ridiculous so called "veterinarian" I have EVER encountered! The only thing this guy could do was diagnose him with bladder stones. Which btw petMD did that too given his symptoms. This guy wanted to do a urine sample and xrays, telling me they both ultimately will tell us if he is positive for the stones. Takes my ferret away for the urine sample, comes back 5 min later with "we couldn't get him to sit still".... I'm no vet but I can easily get my little guy to sit still by barely pinching the loose skin on his neck and he "plays dead". Anyone who has ever been around ferrets or most animals knows that's their weak spot. Next comes back to tell me that they need to do surgery and at the least I'm looking at a 12-1500$ bill without including the exam, xrays, and medicine. I suggested let's do the medicine because I knew I needed to find someone that actually knew what they were doing. Did I also fail to mention he told me that when he went to the back he was doing some research online and found out some info on the stones... WELL buddy I could do google too. Overall just unhappy with this place. I ended up finding an actual doctor that is in the business for the animals not the money. He did the surgery for a third of this places price and my Fred is all better and in recovery now. Don't go here unless you want to pay more than what you should for ppl who don't know what they are doing. My mother and I had the absolute worse experience here the other day with Dr. Baxter. Our chihuahua that is blind deaf and 17 1/2 years old had a seizure today and was crying in pain. We took her there expecting the worse bc she is in horrible shape and we would never want her to suffer. They took her in by herself, we were not allowed to come in with her (Covid) they called us while she was in the exam room. They refused to treat her in any way and just wanted us to do blood test that would take weeks. Never once gave us a reason why she had a seizure. Then when we refused the blood tests ($$$$) They called us back and claimed the dog bit someone and they have to do a rabies blood test that would take two weeks before they can treat her again. We were extremely upset. Then they refused to give us back the dog. We had to call so many times as we wanted her as far away from them as possible. They finally brought her out and said they are calling animal control on the dog. She is deaf blind and almost dead. Now my poor elderly Mom that was hysterical crying has to have animal control come and possibly take her very old sick dog away. I am beyond appalled! They showed us no proof that the dog bit anyone even after we asked. She is a very calm, sick dog. Pleaseeeeeeeee do not every take your pets here! Possibly the worst place I ever heard of. Just wants your money, completely no regard for animal or human life. read more

This place is unbelievably awful. They are looking to jack your bill up from the second you walk through the door. They train their people to upsell and its the same song and dance no matter which person you get (sales robots). My dog went in for boarding perfectly healthy and came out several days later with an ear infection and what seems to be a UTI. I called to voice my concerns as a long time customer. I was directed to an office manager (Joan). From the very second she got on the phone with me she was defensive and argumentative. She proceeded to accuse me of being rude to her staff and neglecting my animals. Which is absolutely absurd and quite frankly shocking. The bottom line here is that there are many places you can take your animals for boarding and care. Think twice before you bring them here! read more

We currently have 3 dogs under the care of the doctors and staff at BAH. In addition to basic care and exams, we have also required emergency care and boarding services. There has not been a time when we have taken a pet in and the staff has been anything less than extremely welcoming, efficient and courteous. We are welcomed by name, and are pets are always cheerfully greeted. The doctors and vet techs are thorough and understanding and patient. And without a doubt, the tiniest of the dogs thoroughly enjoys all the love and attention he receives during his boarding visits. BAH is clearly THE CHOICE FOR VETERINARY care in the area. read more

Lynsay Baxter is a very unexperienced and unknowledgeable vet. I brought my doggie in because her front paw was hurting. Right away she tells me we need to test her for Lyme disease? Really? Then she poked and prodded her for an hour while my dog was in so much pain and intense. Then she gives us pain medication and anti-inflammatory and lets us go. I called her on the weekend which was 4 days later and told her that my dog wasn't any better and wanted to bring her in but she only said to me to continue giving her the meds and she gave me emergency phone number? Really? She didn't take her condition seriously and didn't offer us any further steps to try to get to root of the problem . What are the meds supposed to do? My baby was still in so much pain and discomfort . The next day my dog lost control of her limps and she couldn't walk anymore. Brought her in to another doctor in the same group and he sent us to a neurologist. They found a tumor in her spine but they couldn't do anything because she was on the freaking anti-inflammatory that Baxter given her and they had to wean her off first. That alone got the condition so much worse as it was a fast growing tumor .My dog didn't improve and had to put her to sleep after 4 days.Baxter contributed in her death. My in-laws had warned me that Brookfield Animal Hospital was responsible for the death of their dog. I guess I should have listened read more

We've taken our dog here quite frequently over the last 4 months since we got him and we LOVE the staff. The building is just so beautiful I feel so comfortable being there. The staff show a genuine enthusiasm and love for our dog at every visit. Some staff pop in on our appointments just to give our dog a scratch on the head and to say hello! We trust them and appreciate their education and commitment to their animals. We have boarded our dog and had him bathed there as well. He seemed to enjoy his time and we were thankful for the daily pictures and updates. Picking him up and seeing him groomed and with a cute new bandana was so nice as a pet owner! Recently I have unfortunately had to put two pets down. Both were older pets. Our dog 16 and a cat 15 years old. Many people say things like they lived a good long life. While this is true, you still feel a tremendous loss. When I sat down to do this review, to thank them for helping us through this process, I noticed that recently someone had written a review that was in my opinion unfair, and I find it difficult to believe this to be an accurate representation of someone's experience. This practice always gives you a quote in writing before any kind of treatment is started. In fact the quote must be signed by you, the customer, before any kind of treatment takes place. I have been going to this practice for as long as I've lived in this area, well over 25 years. I've never had a tech cut the bill by a few hundred dollars for me. In any case I'll continue with my own experience which in all honesty has never been anything but the best. When I looked for a veterinarian for my animals, I look for the best, not the cheapest. And having done research on the cost of the different practices in the area, they have always been comparable. I wanted to thank all the doctors as well as the staff for the compassion I was shown when I did have to make the difficult decision to put both Sage and Luke down. I have taken my ferrets here for the past three years only because my dogs vet does not take ferrets. I have had a horrible experience. Two of my ferrets were diagnosed with terminal cancer, the worst of the two had to have meds twice a day orally. The first time I reordered the meds, they gave me the wrong kind and my ferret had a bad reaction to it. I sent my boyfriend and co-owner to get the right ones and the staff told him that the vet wanted to ween him off it anyways "just to see what happens." The next time I reordered, my boyfriend went to pick it up and it took forever cause the order wasn't filled when they said it would be. When my boyfriend got impatient, they implied he should chill by telling him that the past time he did not get charged the full amount! I should have gotten a free visit or something after they almost killed my animal with their mistake! This ferret died not long after. My second terminal ferret has to have a medical implant every three months. The first time I made the appointment, i made it a week in advance like they told me so that they could order the implant. The day before the appointment, they called my boyfriend and told him that they didnt place the order yet and they had to reschedule. We later decided to move out of the state and we planned our moving date around when the ferret needed her shot so that we would have time to find a new vet without rushing. My boyfriend called the vet 3 WEEKS in advance to give enough time for them to order the implant. We planned on moving a week after the appointment. I got a phone call TODAY when my appoinment in TOMORROW that AGAIN they do not have the implant, when we told them that we were moving and wanted to get all our affairs in order including our animals they were unsympathetic. Plus they had the audacity to give my boyfriend attitude when he told them that we would not keep the appointment for the other two ferrets to get rabies shots cause he wanted to do it all at once instead of making two trips. I am so glad I am moving. If Mill Plain Vet took ferrets i would have switched THREE YEARS AGO!!!!!!! read more

I am laughing as reading this hospitals response to my review. It was not just one incident that angered me. One of your vets told me one of my other dogs never had lyme. she did, twice and I had the left over meds to prove it, but who would lie about a dog being sick, Then the lost my french bulldog records and there response was they never had them. I took my golden and the tech was so rough, drew blood, and gave me an antibiotic to treat. So when we asked detailed questions about teeth cleaning, was given an estimate and then hit with an estimated bill almost 500 more, yes I have good reason to be angry and them calling me to make nice does not make up for horrible business practices. read more

I have been bringing my cats and dogs to BAH for 10 years. All of the doctors spend the time to explain what is going on with your pet and the various treatment options but are not pushy about selling you anything. One of the doctors even called Pfizer for me to get extra information about a medication for my dog. Their services and products are reasonably priced compared to other vets in the area. I have never felt overcharged for anything, plus they offer a multi-pet discount. The hospital is up-to-date, very clean, has heated surgery tables and tiled, individual recovery "apartments". BAH offers laser treatments (used for my pets to minimize joint discomfort from arthritis), an unusual service for a non-specialty vet hospital. The vet techs and staff members are professional and helpful. I'm sticking with BAH. read more
