My apartment had a serious cockroach infestation that was never properly addressed, even after repeated complaints. The conditions were unsanitary, and management refused to take the issue seriously. Communication was just as bad. Property Manager Annaliza Castro rarely responded to emails, and when I asked how to reach her, Assistant Manager Cynthia Bass told me the "best way" was to sit in the parking lot and wait for Annaliza's car to arrive. They refused to provide me with a phone number or any reliable way to contact her. Between the pest problems and the complete lack of professionalism, I cannot recommend The Life at Elmwood Grove to anyone. Save yourself the stress and look elsewhere.

Office staff "Cindy" is rude and harasses handicapped tenants, she tried to follow me to my apartment while yelling at me because I asked another office member to have workers for the complex move out of the only handicapped spot near our building because we need it. They have since blocked me from the online community and refuse to answer any emails. I have asked several times for the owners information and I am ignored repeatedly. Do not rent from these horrible people.

The significant issues that I have had have arisen more recently. The first issue I have is parking, previously parking spaces that were closest to the buildings were once free, now they are assigned spots that they are charging monthly. I will never accept offering something for free then taking it away from the residents. It seems like a bait and switch from when I first moved in, and one I do not appreciate. Then the next issue is the largest. My heating and A/C unit broke days before a large snow storm. It took 5 weeks to fix, and for that entire time I did not have central heating nor A/C. The Grafton's best response was to give me $100 off my lease for one month and a small heater that could barely heat a single room, let alone an entire apartment. Several times I would call to ask for a second space heater and was told there was a limited supply and I could not have one. Not until I elevated the issue to the upper level management did I get a second space heater just to keep my whole apartment above freezing. You are paying a decent amount of money to live here, but that also comes with the expectation that you should have working central heating/Air conditioning and that your issues would be addressed properly and timely, which I felt had fallen below expectation at the Grafton with that matter. Then more common issues such as cracks on the apt walls/doors getting stuck occurred several times, but those were expected with this being a new apartment complex and addressed quickly. Lastly, I have had a long standing issue with a leaky window sill that for the duration of my stay the window leaked whenever there was a heavy rain storm, they tried several small fixes but none have worked. Only on my second to last day prior to moving out did I get informed they were finally going to thoroughly check the wall/replace the window frame and do work to figure out the cause to fix it. But to be fair it only occurred whenever there was heavy rain, so not as large an issue since it only happened a couple times a year. Overall, with all the new housing being built in the area, I suggest checking out alternatives.

They told us that there is a waiting list for their duplexes, and that they can remove us and fill it instantly. Yet, the duplex down the street is empty. What happened to that waiting list? We had an issue with the app that is used to pay rent. Apparently another apartment complex in the area uses the same one. We had a mix up and were paying our rent to the wrong establishment. We did not discover this for a few months. Instead of discussing the issue like civilized human beings before the issue got out of hand, they come pounding on our door a few months months later with an eviction notice, a butt-chewing, and a threat that they will kick us out if our rent gets behind again. They also scared a household member because of how loudly they banged on the door. Essentially they overreacted to the situation instead simply discussing it with us before corporate and management tempers got out of hand. It was an unprofessional way to handle the situation.

Still didn't say anything to him until he asked why his skin was burning then told him about the acid in the lines. After that when you try to leave get everything in writing, take photos do everything you can to cover your butt because they will find ways to double your fee's on leaving. We have had to break our lease because of medical issues with one of our kids, we thought we could take them at their word and had a price we thought we had to pay for breaking the lease which was essentially two months rent, and losing the deposit. Yaaaaaa NO!!! We gave the notice as they requested what they did not tell us and it is NOT in the lease is that they will charge you if you leave before the 60 days and apparently they have to repaint walls that had nothing on them and was not repainted before we moved in also clean the floors which had nothing wrong with them anyway. I also recorded the apartment when I moved out because my gut said something would happen like this, but that does not good. The reviews you see on Google Review, Yelp or Apple Review for negative stars on customer service are true! You cannot get the same person if they ever respond. Most customer service has an email that you can go back and forth on to try and resolve an issue, my wife had several emails that went unanswered, I had one response but then the person will respond using a general address so that you cannot respond back to them. This place has potential great location and apartments are nice. If I was the owner there would be massive changes, but that maybe were the problem is, all they care about is $$$ so basically we have to stuck paying for several months of an apartment we are not in, and I'm sure they have already rented back out sooooooo double the profits for them. I have deterred three co-workers from coming here, plus another family member that was going to stay here while at U of A, While Highland does not care because they simply will find another renter.
