Some have been more interesting to me than others, but they all have two people talking to each other. It's an organization that's taking stories from all different Americans for storage at the Library of Congress. An audible history bank of sorts. All sorts of stories told. They have an app and you can do it yourself on the app. Recently the touring Storycorps airstream came to Buffalo for a month or so. I immediately secured one of the interview spots for two family members. Neither born American, one has lived here for over 50 years - having done graduate studies here. The other visiting from South America. They went through the process and it was great. Well organized and very comfortable. This is a terrific project.

I attended this huge street fair this year in 2026 and had a great time. The weather was…read moreexceptionally hot but we still walked up and down the fair from start to finish. It was very crowded but we were able to walk around and check out the local vendors. They had some local entertainment for the children and adults. There was every type of food you can imagine. We opted for a Mexican restaurant (Fatty Daddy) so we could sit down and eat in the AC, lol. I bought some little "Brooklyn" souvenirs and some sweets. I actually enjoyed this fair better than "Atlantic Antic" because it wasn't overly crowded. Definitely something I would check out again.

I typically hate NYC street fairs, but the Fifth Avenue lived up to its name!…read more Unlike some other fairs, where it's all the same sausage and peppers on every block, the Fifth Ave Fair puts a big emphasis on local businesses, with most of the food options coming from those storefronts! There was also a live band, lots of random stuff to buy (mostly jewelry and clothes). I set up station by the Letter of Marque Theater space and watched/participated in some awesome soundpainting and improv performances! Go support them! Also devoured a ton of pizza, and had more than a few beers from Nunu Chocolates. I love drinking in public! The fair also extended pretty far down! From almost Flatbush all the way down to the numbered streets!

We talked with a really nice, knowledgable sales person who didn't push us to get more coverage or add ons to our plan. I was really happy with the girl who helped is out, however, our visit took nearly half the day. The employees seemed disorganized and under poor management. I was expecting the visit to be quicker, given that we knew exactly what we wanted and knew the phones were in stock. (We ordered ahead of time online and picked up in store). It seemed there were glitches in ringing us up and charging the correct price. I would have expected this process to be smoother and simpler.

Some good tunes, typical for them. Then all of a sudden I heard the dj call out 91.5 FM, WNYE. What? A good radio station in New York? Huh. Well yes, in conjunction with the excellent KEXP on the West Coast, New York City's radio station has become as hip as their TV station. Anyone who enjoys watching New York Noise will enjoy this radio station. I think I'm better with restaurant reviews, because I know that music is so subjective and requires different syntax, but anyway, I encourage everyone to give WNYE a try, so that the next mayor will give as much credence to the youth of New York as this one obviously does. New York needs it. It works. Listen up!

Was here for their annual Hallowanus event. Some... interesting choices in music, but ended the…read morenight pretty solid at 4am with the dance hits. They set up a cool bar in the back with cheap beers and mixed drinks. Free snacks all around, including everyone's most-talked about/questioned saltwater taffy. Bathroom situation was odd. Guys were encouraged to pee into an industrial wash sink with a wooden ramp leading up to it. Didn't smell great. But I did appreciate the "whizz palace" P&R reference. Plus free photobooth!

But the facility is perfect for a dance party once cleared out. I did wander around and see all the printing equipment and projects in the making which I though was pretty amazing. As a New Yorker who loves bluegrass and country (really, anything with a washboard, fiddle and banjo), this is magical. Going through the streets with a rolling base, stomping your feet, waving to confused and smiling pedestrians might just be my new favorite thing. It's free to attend and your welcome to bring your instrument and join in on the song program. I got to square dance for the first time at the 6th avenue triangle! We also stopped at some local businesses that were generous enough to give paraders little bites to eat, a big thanks to them! The community is welcoming to everyone and if you're curious about hearing, playing, or dancing to folk music, Porch Stomp is a great resource.

Well, I made the right choice and thank you to each individual who recommended the location. When I arrived, I checked out the tap list and was blown away by the offerings they had. And in addition, looking around and eavesdropping on some conversations I realized that I was surrounded by fellow beer nerds. I got a few different pours, including one of my favorite Canadian breweries (Messorem really needs to get some beer down to Minnesota). Loved this neighborhood bar in Carroll Gardens! They have a great selection of beers on tap,…read morecategorized by taste. In case beer isn't your thing, they also have wine, cider, and spirits available, plus nonalcoholic options on the menu. The space is excellent -- clean and well lit, with a long bar and plenty of tables for small groups. Furniture and fixings look brand new, and there are a couple of TVs inside. Still, the wooden chairs and tables give a tavern vibe, even with the modern amenities. There are lots of great breweries in the area, but I think Queue Beer is a great spot for a more laid back outing and variety of beers.
