As you might guess from the name, Devil's Lake Yacht Club is the flagship club for Devil's Lake. It's for members and invited guests only, so I felt like a real high roller when I got to go recently! Recently remodeled, I loved that they kept the grand old bar, with the addition of some stylish and comfy barstools for congregating around and chatting with friends. Instead of grabbing a drink that night, we headed over to our table, where a friendly server greeted us and took our orders. This evening it was the fried chicken dinner all around, with the option of white meat, dark meat, or combo. While we waited, we munched on warm rolls and enjoyed the view on the lake. A short time later, our dinners arrived, and it was some of the tastiest fried chicken I've had in a long time. The crust tasted like a mixture of cornflakes and buttermilk, with just the right amount of seasonings. I got some green beans and mashed potatoes on the side, both of which were delicious. Maybe it's my good memories of coming to the lakes as a kid, maybe it was that it was the perfect end to a perfect Sunday, but the dinner at the Devil's Lake Yacht Club hit the spot for me. Right across the street from the Kellogg's plant, this one shines with more character with the brick, train tracks, and washed out look of a building that's been at work for decades.
