First I learned through trail and error, but quickly I realized that won't suffice, so I started really studying up on it and learned a whole lot about it. So when I finally figured out how to correctly set up the aquarium, and water. To give the fish a chance to survive and thrive. But that's when I also realized something else, that now, after more than a year of tinkering, and learning about fish keeping, that now that I knew more, I realized I'd have to be crazy to buy any fish from any of my local chain stores, like Petland Discounts, Petco, Pet smart. Etc. Cause if you look closely at those fish, you can clearly see all kinds of signs of diseases and illnesses. I guess the only way they sell any, is to people that really don't know how to tell if a fish looks healthy or not. So basically for the last 3 or 4 years now I've been buying every single of my fish from Temco here. Of course there is the occasional dead fish that didn't take to my tank well. But at least for the most part if I treat them right, they live and prosper. I wouldn't let you put a fish from any of those stores in my aquarium, if you gave it to me for free, and even if it looked perfectly healthy. Because I've seen the tanks they're coming out of. I'll attach a photo of my goldfish aquarium. I have now a beautiful exotic collection of different types and colors of goldfish. All healthy and beautiful, and diseases and parasites free. So yea, maybe I pay a little(!) More power fish than the chain stores, but it's well worth the headaches and stress it saves me. (And it's not really that much more expensive)
