Let's just start by saying good pancakes & a free mimosa will make me a very happy patron...LOL! A couple of friends and I spontaneously decided to have brunch one saturday. The 3 of us shared a stack of pumpkin pancakes as an appetizer.. I know we are fatties. The pancakes where fluffy & light. I got the steak & eggs w/ potatoes brunch special which was pretty tasty. Now here is why they have 4 STARS! I noticed my eggs were very runny and wanted it to be cooked a lil bit more. I had eaten 1/3 of my steak & some of my potatoes by this time. Waitress says they can cook my eggs more & takes my plate. About 10mins goes by and we noticed that I didn't get my plate back. I notice a waitress walking by w/ a plate that looks like mine but it can't be. Maybe another 10mins go by and I'm like really 20 mins to cook an egg. We finally get our waiter's attention and she says i should have had it. She looks to the right and sees MY PLATE BEING DEVOURED BY ANOTHER CUSTOMER @ THE BAR!!!!!!!!! LOL LOL LOL! She freaks and goes to the manager & other waiter. All my friends & I hear is " YOU GOTTA BE F***IN KIDDING ME." Our waiter comes back and apologizes profusely. She says they will make me a complete new order, which was only right seeing as if I didn't really eat it. I felt bad for the person who got my plate. However, don't you know what your plate looks like..unless you ate exactly the amount I ate.. LOL! The person is lucky I didn't pick up the steak w/ my hands and eat it like a caveman...LOL LOL! So 4 stars it is... you getting someone else's plate is a definite no no... even thought the food is delicious....LOL LOL LOL! read more

I have mixed feels about this place. Never get the cocktails--ordered a vodka cran and then some other cocktails from their menu, and I just should've known. DO order their punkin ale and breakfast stout. Their food--more like pub food. I wouldn't expect much, but it isn't great enough to justify their prices. I did get their chicken blt sandwich, and the only thing great about it was the guacamole on the bun (I just love guacamole). My friend got the burger with onion rings in it, and the onion rings are ginormous, and he seemed to enjoy it, so lucky him! The seating behind the bar is also waitress service so if you can't get a seat in the back, you can sit there. read more

When I discovered Brooklyn Public House for myself, I got off a plane at LGA and came straight here - luggage and all. I was traveling alone and I wanted to grab a drink and some food before going on with my day. What I found were a really delicious lunch and great conversation. I asked for a recommendation for my meal because I had been traveling and decisions are hard - I ended up with the salmon salad. SO. GOOD. I was in survival mode when I climbed on that bar stool, and I didn't expect all the good things that happened. My meal was delicious, I had a friendly conversation with some of the owners who didn't make me feel so alone, and I ordered a couple of great beers--I can't remember what they were apart from life-giving, although I did feel ashamed that I wasn't ordering Guinness with the rest of the bar crowd. Walked in on a whim and glad I did. I sometimes hate being dependent on reviews or looking at the menu in detail beforehand. So my friend and I just figured out the basics of it being American, Bar food and went in. Really relaxed atmosphere kind of seat yourself early afternoon. Our waiter was hands on enough to not feel ignored but not like he was desperate for a tip. We shared the calamari appetizer and I had the blue cheese burger with bacon and fries while my friend had the bangers and mash. The burger was medium as requested and very juicy. The right amount of crumbly blue cheese to not add to the salt factor of the bacon. Perfect. Bangers and mash was good but it could have a better presentation for a more appetizing appeal. The calamari was surprisingly good for a bar and good in general. Neither of us drink beer but I didn't want a cocktail from a bar. My friend just called it a day and got a coke while I tried the hard cider. We ended up sharing it since it was so good and a good portion too. I have been lusting after beer ads about a week after and may try a house suggestion next time I go. It seems like a great happy hour spot or a good place to chill midday. read more

Tonight I tried the "french burger". Melted Gruyere cheese and fried egg on a yummy toasted baguette. The burger was absolutely amazing. I kid you not. I almost requested tabasco out of habit, but after tasting it- no necessito! Earlier in the day we sampled the spinach dip (with melted asiago and shallots). There really hasn't been that much action in my mouth since....hmmmm.. You should just pack a bag and expect to stay. You can even use the fuzzy, raised wall paper as a pillow. There are so many things on the menu that you're going to want to try and plenty of beers on tap. No bike parking yet but I have put in a request. I'm hooked! read more

About 3 am I woke to an aching gut. I will spare you the details. But this was a direct result of truly mediocre - no, awful - food. The nachos were rubbish laced with sliced jalapeños to make up for lack of flavor. The steak portion (additional) was nearly invisible. It was sick inducing. The iced tea was bitter. I asked for a "sweet and low" and was given 7 packets. Wasteful. My partner had a burger and fries, the kind of fries that were cut and frozen years ago. Inedible. The beer was fine. It's just beer. Noise level was exceptional on a Tuesday night. Unpleasant. I wish I could give this hole in the wall - or hole - a minus star. It deserves it. Brooklyn Public House makes a great Shepherd's Pie. But the last couple of times that I've ordered it for delivery, it hasn't been correct. I'm not sure who is preparing it as of late but the filling is put in a plastic container and topped with mash potatoes and then just sent for delivery. The kitchen hasn't been putting the pie into the oven to crisp the top of the potatoes! When you make shepherd's pie who always crisp the potato topping! This restaurant used to do just that, but lately not at all. I pretty much have to finish it off in my own oven before I can enjoy it. read more

3 stars is generous for my experience tonight. We came here upon the recommendation of a local bartender because the kitchen is open late and they apparently have "really good food". I realized I'd been here a few years ago, and although tonight was much less crowded, it was the same type of crowd. One of the bartenders had absolutely no interest in keeping an eye on customers/checking to see if new people came in. He was just focused on whatever inventory he was taking. This left us sitting at the bar waiting for someone to pay attention us for at least 7 minutes. Not a long time, but feels like an eternity when you want to order food and drink. And it was not crowded. Maybe 5 other people at the bar who all had a drink or food already. Finally another bartender came from the back and noticed us. Her name was Iffa(sp?), but she did not introduce herself. I found this out when asking after our mediocre experience. While she was bringing over both food and drink menus I asked her for two waters before she dropped them. She then somehow decided that I didn't need the food/bev menus, and started leaving with them after dropping the water. I said "Oh no, I'll take those" and she put them back down. I ordered and Allagash white (which tasted really sour - did not finish it) and a catfish sandwich. My friend ordered one of the salads with shrimp. She didn't enjoy it and didn't care to take her leftovers. Which is weird to me, I feel like salad should be decent enough. I liked the fish that came with my order, the seasoning was great, but there was very little fish. Also...it didn't taste like, OR have the texture of catfish. Another similar fish maybe, texture-wise it reminded me of "tilapia". But the fries were decent. I asked the bartender about the catfish (whether it was actually catfish) and she said "I've never had ANYONE ask about the catfish, this is the first time." Okay, and...? I let her know that I've eaten a lot of catfish in my life and the texture/taste was quite different. "I just had it last night. It's catfish. Maybe it's just a REALLY GOOD PIECE OF FISH" I just gave her a look and said "okay". It was a very strange response, and she didn't seem to care that I was concerned about it being a fish that was mislabeled on their menu, if only for tonight. It was a huge turn off. Overall, would not return unless it was happy hour - I hear their food is worth the price during that time. Please get some more attentive bartenders for your late-night shifts. read more

You don't go here for great food - you go here because it's nearby and the kitchen is open late. Burgers are firmly between so-so and ok. That said, I chose Shepherds Pie tonight and it was inedible. It tasted like recooked burger leftovers with extra grill grease topped with singed mashed potatoes. There was a pea or two. Awful. Service was good, friendly. Also it's hard to ruin beer. read more

Great neighborhood spot!! They reopened a few months ago with nice, new staff and an updated menu! And, it seems better than ever! The nachos are AMAZING. Seriously dreaming about the tower of cheesy, crispy, spicy goodness right now! The house-made veggie burger is delicious! Its fresh, doesn't fall apart and is sooo tasty. They also have daily specials that are always super good! Definitely NOT your standard bar food! I've also had some delicious & refreshing summer cocktails off their cocktail menu. They have excellent food and great ambiance -- I highly recommend going in person -- not sure of covid restrictions. On a lazy Sunday, me and M. decided to take a stroll down Dekalb and get some brunch. We have never been to this place after it's opening, so we decided to check it out. I had the brunch burger and M. had steak and eggs. An alcoholic drink was included in the meal. I examined their booze menu and it looks great (great variety w/ detailed descriptions such as alcohol vol %). Staff was friendly, food was not. My medium rare burger came almost completely rare once past the .5 cm outside crust. The burger's lower bun was got soggy within 2 mins. (maybe that's my fault). M.'s piece of steak forgetable. I just felt that our food was thrown together by someone in a rush. I doubt I will want to go back again for food. I will go for drinks though, will fill out tummy before heading there. read more

Kinda can't explain it........as it the soul of Brooklyn Public House is just off a bit. This place is also a little snobby for me and I'm a beer snob. This sums it up. I'm a person with a positive outlook so I'll keep it at their need for some improvements. The staff was generally friendly and nice, Albeit but inexperienced. It was a little bit on the side of inconsistent with items. A vegan, should order a dish that claims to be with Veganaise not be accompanied with regular spicy mayonnaise . Potatoes should be baked to a nice crispy consistency. I'm someone who is great fan of bloody Mary's and has capability of making/breaking somewhere in returning, I won't be back purposefully at this restaurant, until they get a consistent product. It's all in the training. I may admit while there it seemed as if the staff was new. But then the owner should be here working as well... This place has promise.. But needs to own up. read more

Location, atmosphere, and general ambiance of this place is great but the staff/service & menu choices are what is really earning this 5 star review. My husband and I were overly impressed by the menu and had such a hard time deciding what to get because everything that came out to other tables looked and smelled incredible, nachos, shepherds pie, fries,... it all looked heavenly BUT we decided on the calamari and it absolutely did not disappoint, full of flavor, flaky, delicious. I guess brunch isn't this place's forte. Everyone on the floor seemed to be treating service like a free-for-all. I had no idea who my server was because at least 4 different people came to my table. Nachos were great, but I wouldn't recommend the place. Service was ok at first but then... Not so much. Specially the woman serving the bar. She was soooooo rude. Horrible person! And I'm almost sure they cloned my credit card there :( Then another girl made us pay for the people that were sitting in the table before us, because we knew them and she forgot to charge a drink and some food (we saw when they were paying, they didn't just leave). The bartender aoife (cool Irish name!) recommended the house burger which was so delicious! Stayed for a while and had a great conversation with her. Went by on the 19th for a pint of Old Speckled Hen. Nice place. It sure filled up quickly with a bunch of yuppies. No not hipsters but good ol' fashioned yuppies. (No wonder balls d. wants to move out of the neighborhood.) Tried to stop in last night at 5:15PM for another pint and a bite to eat before catching a movie at BAM but the place was closed. CLOSED!
