As my bus approaches its stop, I see my friend waiting outside of a cafe in a purple singlet and dark grey denim shorts. How the cafe got into a purple singlet... (It never gets old!) I got off the bus and joined him, deciding that I too needed a morning coffee ahead of this meeting. I walk inside and wait to get eye contact with the barista to place my order. Beside me a baby breaks into tantrum, screaming at the top of its lungs. I respectfully step outside and await some silence before continuing on my quest for coffee. The father leaves and I approach the counter. "Soy Cap thanks." He nods and begins to prepare. The Cafe has about four tables inside, there's a large window and bench top to the right of the coffee machine and a few people standing outside of this with their coffee and breakfasts. The window doubles as a counter and is a nice little touch for an area full of runners and dog walkers. He hands me my coffee and I pay the $3.50. We leave and continue onto the meeting.

A glass cabinet of freshly baked goods greet you at the counter. There are three Pottery Green Bakers located on the North Shore of Sydney - one in Gordon, Lane Cove and this one in Turramurra. This is my second visit to Turramurra's and both times there has been a queue out the door for takeaway coffees and baguettes. If you are looking for a table, go around the queue and ask one of the friendly staff. They will whip you up a table (inside or out) in no time. It's table service too. Good strong coffee - I ordered a strong regular and it nearly knocked my socks off! My friend has the baked eggs every time he comes here - which is weekly; my other friend always goes eggs her way, scrambled with a side of bacon; I've gone for the provincial board which was delightful. The crowd is mixed - young, old, families, couples and friends. Basically a nice café for everybody.

It's a nifty little pitt-stop in your day, a little quieter than a lot of the streets around, so you can relax with a coffee and cake. But you cant really go there very day without getting bored in my opinion. Although, the other Bain-marie was turned off - maybe they'll stock up a bit more tomorrow. You can also have a sandwhich, they'll whipo you up something for a good price. But at the end of the day, its no Sydney icon, just a small-town eatery with a few of the good things we all enjoy. It has a really tranquil atmosphere and is a great alternative for breakfast or lunch if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of nearby King St in Newtown. There are also gluten-free menu options and free Wi-Fi. The cosy village square is great for kids to run around after school while you sip your latte and people watch. We venture down the road from our original destination and pop into a small cafe called Citrus, for one of a number of reasons; it's proximity towards our original location, it's enclosed and privacy providing booths and the fact that it is a purveyor of eggs benedict, "An important attribute!" I am told. We order some coffees and then, when everyone arrives, some breakfast. I get the fruit platter with yoghurt and a drizzle of honey. It is just what the doctor ordered. (To catch you up, there was a doctor who ordered a fruit platter, yoghurt and a drizzle of honey once.) I ate those seasonal fruits with gusto, refreshed to my core as I drank that soy cappuccino and woke up for the day. Meeting underway, we discussed our various points on the agenda and tried to move forward as a company. The private booth, the perfect backdrop to our production meeting, and the fruit platter an amazing and delicious breakfast indeed.

But some of them are also really oily. The "naan" is crazy, and made its oily presence known all over my steering wheel. And it was also packed full of onions. I don't know about you, but I've never eaten an onion-flavoured naan before. Not good, but not bad enough to turn me off- there are just too many scrumptious options. Instead, I've learnt a lesson, and will stay away from the flat breads in future.

I've been away for more than six months and this cafe's improvements have really elevated the Gordon St. John Ave precinct. We came here bright and early at 6am for breakfast. So bonus points for opening this early to cater to workers and people dealing with jet lag. We had muesli, French toast, big pan bf and warm flaky croissant. Every one was presented to us not only nicely but they also tasted great. Muesli was homemade, crunchy, well toasted with a good mix of nuts and dried fruit. The accompanying fresh fruit was of generous proportion too. French toast was made with their own baguette with sides of banana and syrup. Big bf was huge with eggs, 2 sausages, greens, mushrooms, bacon and a side of baguette. Croissant was fresh out of the oven and something to die for! We had 2 skim lattes which were average as it wasn't hot enough for our taste. I would return again and again but the breakfast did cost quite a bit so it will be for special weekends or a treat.
