I recently found out that my primary care doctor for the last 10 years plus, will no longer be in-network with my insurance company. A person I met at Walgreens suggested I try Dr Brown. My first appt. was great. They were very thorough. My usual appt. with my former doctor lasted about 15 minutes total. This one was longer and included questions and concern for my overall well being and health. I am now retired and am focusing on my health. Medical assistant Nayshala was the first person I saw, then Physician assistant Debra Hunter was next. Both were fantastic. I felt I got a more personal attention experience. The ladies at the front desk were also very nice. I did have some apprehension about changing doctors, now I feel that I am in very good hands. Also instead of driving to Dallas, Dr Browns office is 1.7 miles away from my home. Great. Update-just had my first in-person appt during the COVID-19 era. The ladies at the front desk are still the best, friendly and professional, as are all the ladies in the back. I give special mention to the lady that draws blood, Mya (?). I was in once and started to chat with her about something. I looked down to see when she would start drawing the blood and she was pulling the needle out. The office contacted me for an appointment. Since Dr. Brown was now seeing patients in the office, I agreed. As the appointment was set for two weeks later, I requested mailed paperwork. It arrived the evening before the appointment. I was reminded by text 17 hours before the appointment that they required a 24-hour cancellation notice. I arrived with my TDL, insurance card, and vaccination card. I signed in and stood at the window, but was ignored, so I sat down. During the 15 minute wait, I watched the clerk and waited for some kind of acknowledgment, a greeting, a wave. Nothing happened. I got up and left. The odd thing was the clerk was not busy, but she also seemed to make a point of not seeing me and feigning paperwork. (I am an RN, so I do know actual busy). I did not know her, nor had I seen her before. I had heard wonderful things about Dr. Brown, but I will never know. Doctors don't realize how much business they lose because of the attitudes or their front-line staff. I have NEVER been to a medical office where the first thing they did was ignore you instead of collecting the insurance, ID, and other relevant papers. in fact, they usually give you new patient paperwork. I love Dr. Brown's office. I've been coming here since I was 17 and I am in my early 30s now. As a matter of fact, I always suggest her office to people who are looking for a new provider. Dr. Brown really seems to specialize in women's health, especially African American women. She is really big on nutrition and living a healthy, active lifestyle starting exactly where you are. She won't beat you over the head with facts and approaches all of her patients as more of a partner in health, which is the respect I demand in all health providers. Dr. Brown's staff is super friendly and will try to help you get an appointment even if she is booked up, and if you can't see Dr. Brown, you are still in great hands with Nurse Debra who is the PRN on staff. I LOVE HER! She is so much fun to talk to and is really caring and knowledgeable. So if you are looking for a doctor who is not a jerk and who actually cares, I strongly suggest Dr. Brown. I did not receive the care I deserve. My first and last visit. the receptionist was not friendly. I believe I saw Nurse Debra, A PA, or NP. I'm not sure what her title was. She asked very few questions, Order some medication for some of my syptoms. I was not given a complete physical. WAS never asked did I have any drug allergies. This person told me "girl don't claim that stuff" Remember this was my 1st. visit. Needless to say, I returned to my GYN who informed me, I am beginning menopause. I really hate to write this bad review because I know how difficult it is when you have a Black business people look for any and every reason to nick pick. However, if you are a Black Business that don't give a d**** about Black people, you don't deserve our dollars or respect. I saw the red flags the first time I called to make an appointment, but I ignored them silly me. I called and was immediately placed on hold. I waited 10mins before I hung up. I'm like maybe they forgot about me. I called back and was placed on hold again. I waited another 10mins before hanging up. Common courtesy would have been to let me know that there was a long wait head since their hold system didn't give you an idea of how many callers where ahead; that was rude and very unprofessional. I decided to give them another chance, I called back the next day and before the receptionist could put me on hold, I asked her " how long the wait was," she told me 15mins. I'm thinking dang they must be good they have so many people trying to get in. This time I waited. But boy was I wrong..... My first appointment went well. I initially went in because of BV, I was prescribed medicine. Unfortunately, it came back within two weeks. So, I set up another appointment. I know when I have BV because I've gotten it my whole adult life on and off. Sometimes it takes several times of treating it before it goes away. I was very sure that's what I had when I went back. (By the way, I never saw Dr. Brown, I saw her PA). The PA takes a urine sample, and tell me since their are no white blood cells in my urine that I do not have BV. If any lady has have this problem before, you know BV produces unwated odors down there. So I ask what I am suppose to do about that. You say I don't have BV but I have an odor. She tells me to eat Cottage Cheese. So for the next few weeks I tried to get my PH balanced. I Watched what I ate; I added a few things to my diet that I thought may help. After two weeks of this, I had no changes. So I made another appointment. This time I expressed to her, how unhappy I was about our last appointment. That I didn't feel helped. And how I still had an odor. She tells me to do another urine test. This one comes back negative again. Once again, I am sent away. I left out pissed. I got to thinking about things. How is it possible for a person to tell if something is wrong with my vagina by checking my urine only. I became enraged once I realized this woman just looked me in my face and screwed me over. She acted like she gave a d**** about me but if she really did, she would have done a pelvic exam. Because that's what the h*** you do when someone complains about their vagina. How many other women have she done this to. Luckily, I didn't have a STD. I ended up making an appointment to an OB/GYN the same day. It turned out that I did have BV plus a yeast infection. Moral of the story: YOU CANNOT LOOK AT A WOMAN'S URINE ALONE TO DETERMINE, IF SHE HAS AN VAGINAL INFECTION, YOU HAVE TO SWAB THE VAGINA TOO. And, if she really cared about me, she wouldn't had let me walk out of her office complaining of vaginal odor without checking everything. I honestly have never been a person who leaves reviews online, but today I experienced the worst customer service I've ever seen in the medical field. I myself worked in the medical field for over 17 years so I was immediately a little off put when I walk then as a new patient and wasn't so much is like knowledged as I was signing in. 10 minutes later I politely asked for my new patient paperwork, and the reception of says "give me a minute". So Im thinking, you knew I was coming and that I was a new patient. A little while after I turned in the paperwork they call me up to tell me that I needed to pay a 170 something dollars. When I questioned it she showed a piece of paper and told me that my deductible was much higher than I knew it to be. This prompted me to call my insurance company I spoke of my insurance provider. They assured me she was wrong but she didn't want to talk to my insurance company. She just looked at the paper realized her mistake and said well at this point you'll have to reschedule anyway. No apologies, no nothing, just the you'll have to reschedule anyway. All I could do was walk away. I make it a point to support my communities businesses, but I'm really coming to the end of my rope. Horrible. They don't care about their patients. I called to get a refill on a RX for my husband. He has asthma. Receptionist told me he would have to be seen before they could refill his RX since he hadn't been seen since last year. Understood. So the first receptionist I talked to said he could come in today at 2. I told her I would call back to make sure that was ok with him. I called back less than a hour later and got another receptionist and she was rude. She said the next appt was in one week. I let her know I just called and they told me today at 2. She said "well we don't have that and we're not taking walk ins." I let her know he has been up all night unable to breathe and we just needed a refill on his RX. I didn't think it mattered so much for the dr to refill it because whenever he goes for an appt, the dr never comes in the room anyway. She just refills the RX. I let her know we were getting ready to go to the hospital because I am scheduled to be induced to have our baby today so that's why the other lady offered the appt for today. I told her we would just walk in amd wait if we had to (and risk being late to my induction appt) and she told me if he walked in , he would not be seen today. I asked her what would they advise THEIR patient to do when they CANT BREATHE. She said go to the emergency room. I translated that to "find a new Dr". I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. They do not care for their patients. I am a Patient Care Coordinator for a dental office and we would NEVER tell one of our patients to go somewhere else. As health care professionals, that's what we are here for, to care for our patients. Not to toss them off to the next Dr because you don't want to miss your lunch break. She never even sounded concerned. I was disgusted that he's been going there for as long as he was. Oh, and not to mention, each time I call, the hold time is ridiculous. I would not trust them with any of my health information or to care for me, because in reality, they don't care. read more

I see there are not many reviews for Dr. Brown's office on Yelp and that is not surprising considering the average age of her patient: I doubt that many of them know Yelp exist. Dr. Brown's staff is polite enough, but the business overall has some business practices that are deplorable. Several times I would go to the pharmacy to get a prescription filled only to find out it could not be filled. This is really a problem for me since I don't go to get meds until absolutely necessary. I would always be told to call my Doctor and the office would always tell me that in order to get the medication, I needed to come in for an appointment. I would set an appointment for 5 to 8 days later and nothing further would be done. I could never understand why if my prescription was expired and I had to see Dr. Brown to continue them, why didn't someone call me prior to me running out. Also, why did it never seem to matter to her office that I would be out of essential medications for days--I understand it is dangerous to just stop taking blood pressure medication. They would not even approve a small supply to hold me over until my appointment. I eventually and gladly found a new doctor who I am quite pleased with. Dr. Brown seems to be quite established in such a way that it has fostered an environment of complacency in her practice--I would not recommend her to anyone. read more
