There are smaller Brown Derby locations all over the place for your quick stop on the way home from work, and then there is this one. This Brown Derby is the vintage 18 year old cask whereas the others are just nice blends. Here you will find everything in the other shops but just so much more. Their selections of cigars, single malts, wines and accessories are beyond reproach. Just when you think you've seen it all, head over to the back room where they keep the REALLY good stuff! I have spent lot is time in Napa shopping with my family. This place has all the aesthetics of Napa and has the nicest people. Loved the cozy decor and hard to find Christmas items. Stopped in for some fancy cranberry chutney for turkey day, some hard to find beer and got some hibiscus tea as a treat. Loved the feeling of home as the patrons smacked on their deli goodies and sipped their adult juice. My husband has been in a lot and says lots of regular come and seem to stay the whole day as there is always something to explore or a new find. For those that you can't find anything for - this is your one stop shop for someone who seemingly has everything. read more

This place is pure gold. The cheese selection alone is ridiculous. I thought the staff was friendly. Their wine inventory is wonderful. I bought some choices that I never had before and a few of them weren't great but that's the whole experience with trying new things. Some wines are great, some aren't. I was less than pleased with their food. I was told they had great food, I ordered a cheese plate. I got bread, parmigiana cheese, grapes, and olives, for $30. I've never had this cheese before, I didn't like it, and the server told me that was too bad, and that I should've ordered a cheese I liked. He said there was nothing he could do about it, except ask me to purchase some different cheese of theirs. So I purchased a small amount of fromage d'affinois cheese for $7. I don't like these prices, and I don't like the staff here. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, and I'm not going back. read more

There's a cafe here!!! Huge surprise for me since I've always thought of the Brown Derby as a wine/spirits shop. My sandwich was amazing (still thinking about the Turkey and cheese, honestly) a d I loved being able to get a glass of crisp chilled Sauvignon blanc to go with. The food is premium. It's all good. You order at a counter. Then they deliver food and drinks. There's always an interesting wine to try. Customer service is premium ( especially Tim) Great place to shop afterwards. Realistically... get there early or late. It's always busy.... but they have good hours. We really enjoyed our visit to the store. My wife has eaten at the deli a few times, this was my first visit to the deli. They have very recently installed equipment that dispenses wine by the glass. You can purchase a 1 oz, 3 oz or a 6 oz pour. Most of the wines range from $0.50 for a 1 oz pour to $6 for a 6 oz pour. It's a great way to sample new wines. You can also purchase any wine by the bottle, or beer and drink it in the deli area. We ordered a meat and cheese board. The serving was very large. We ordered two cheeses and one salami. It included crusty bread, nuts, and grapes. We loved it. All the prices are on the menu pictures I uploaded. We really enjoyed our experience, and will be returning often. read more

This *liquor store* rocks. We don't have places like this in Oklahoma. :) Not only does Brown Derby have an amazing wine and spirit selection, they have a spread of expensive cheeses and chocolates, a cute bistro, oils and vinegars, specialty spreads, olives, cigars and even a self serve wine tasting bar / vending machine. We bought a $20 wine card and got tastes of all kinds of varietals. You just insert the wine card, hold a glass below the dispenser, and an ounce of wine is poured for your tasting pleasure. This is the most interesting wine/liquor /beer/food/and shopping experience I had in a very long time! It is a great place to find "the best of ......" (any of the above!) There is also a walk-in humidor with cigars from the world over! From what I see, the prices are EXCELLENT as well! On top of the shopping experience, the deli is phenomenal !!!! The best quality ingredients are used to make great food, with home made specials daily, plus you can sample wines you might like......the entire staff are spot on when needed! They have the knowledge, a customer first attitude and just generally want to make your visit to the Store a GREAT EXPERIENCE ALL AROUND! If you live or work in Springfield MO You have to go (OFTEN!) I was hoping for better. I relocated here this past summer. I'm a big food and wine guy, have business interests in wine and spirits (a Certified Sommelier and DipWSET). I was hoping Brown Derby could deliver. The selection is mostly Cali and new world, though there are sufficient options to keep an old world palate satisfied. Help is minimal, though I expected that much - - I am sure its difficult to find sales floor help with wine and spirit chops in the middle of Missouri. Since July I've probably dropped about $2,000 here. I visited right before New Years for some Champagne. I'm on the mailing list and they were offering a discount on Champagne (online sales only!). I stopped by anyway, and bought about $300 of still wine. I pulled the Champagne I wanted (two bottles for another $200) and asked the associate at the register if they could honor the online discount. They may have been part-time/seasonal help but were stone faced, and of less than any help. This person really didn't answer me at all, nor did they run off to find someone who could. So, while in the store, I had to go onto the Brown Derby web site, buy the Champagne online and wait until the order came through their system. All the while, no one offered to help me, no one offered to make the transaction any easier, and when it was discovered that I mistakenly inputted the wrong cuvee of a specific producer's Champagne ($5.00 difference in price), they had me wait still longer, went to the shelves to pull the correct bottle, not even bothering to ask me if it was the one I really wanted (I'm the customer, no?). The kicker-not even a Happy New Year! or a Thank you! on the way out. There's always an option. Always. Even in Springfield, MO. I buy from Garagiste, still some of the better NYC and West Coast wine shops, and locally, there is Macadoodles. Macadoodle's doesn't have anyone to help, either, but I don't really need it. The occasional special order, but thats it. A shout out to Cherry Picker, where there isn't any help either but they do have some good bottles on the shelves. Some great values, too! p.s. - to the Brown Derby-a serious wine shop doesn't place scented candles next to $300 bottles of wine. read more

Was in here for the very first time a few minutes ago and loved it! I am usually not a fan of liquor stores but this is one is way different. It's cozy and relaxed and very clean! Well granted there isn't that much in the way of great things in Springfield, MO but this is one of the few. I have been here multiple times. So onto the review. Like it says this place says it's a wine center. The thing that got me wasn't kind of wine they have it was the selection of wine. The selection was huge! I even got to see wine that had a pear in the bottle. Even though I'm not a big wine coniseur I was impressed with all the different kinds of sweet wine, dry wine, imported wine and champagne. It's not just the selection of wine they had a big selection of beer. The thing that was nifty about it was the build your own six pack special. Nice deal if you are big on craft beers. Now onto the whiskey selection. They had lot of hard liquor to choose from. It's rare to see a big selection of gin, bourbon, rye whiskey, vodka, absinthe and others all in one place. When I was there I bought some rye whiskey. The reason I gave this place 4 stars instead of five was because of the pricing. Believe it or not they mark up the price of wine and other booze. There is a liquor store owned by the same company 2 blocks down the street where it is cheaper for the booze. I guess they sucker people in with the selection and then jack up the price. In short huge selection of booze, but a little more pricey than an average liquor store. read more

Met friends for lunch here and it was really good! Didn't know this deli was here til a neighbor told me. In the summer they have outdoor seating as well. Two of us had the flatbread pesto pizza and the others had adult grilled cheese and a really good looking club sandwich. Worst lunch ever. Went with a couple of co-workers, I decided to get the pulled pork Banh Mi. Worst decision ever. The pulled pork was flavorless and bland. Love this place. My hubby and I will spend hours in the beer aisle. Not even exaggerating. It's awesomely large. Once a week we will go and pick out a beer to try. This is it! The pinnacle of Springfield beverage obtainment. Naturally, this place offers an array of wine, beer, and liquor as well as an assortment of sophisticated sustenance like international cheeses and gourmet chocolate. Given my adoration for beer, I usually breeze right past these items to the brewski department which outlines the rear and west wing of the store. The beer selection is tremendously comprehensive as it offers a broad selection of imports, craft/micro brews, and seasonals. This beverage spread is constantly changing as new seasonal varieties and special releases get absorbed into the stock. This makes the task of finding something new a cinch. They have an impressive display of 12 oz single bottles that can be gathered into a build your own six-pack. As someone who likes to dabble in numerous flavors, the explorative nature of "the build your own" is a valuable way to quickly broaden the palette... Should you be overwhelmed or unable to locate something? Just ask the helpful and knowledgeable staff about their brewski offerings. The staff typically is aware of when things are coming to their store, and have even been known to place a special order for an eager customer. If I had to complain about anything, it would be the inclusion of the bottom rung beer (miller, bud) into the otherwise awesome selection. I feel like this is the one place that should be untainted with the low brow beer... Just a thought and perhaps a slight tangent. This is the first place I go when looking for anything alcoholic in Springfield. They have 6 different Absinthe's for crying out loud. Their beer selection is only matched by the Brown Derby near MSU campus and almost by the Dillons near MSU. They have wine, cheese, liquor, and a host of other alcohol related goodies. read more

There's nowhere else you need to go when looking for specialty beers. If they don't have it here, it's unlikely you'll find it anywhere else. They have a huge selection of wines, too, but being that my knowledge of wines is akin to that of, say, an infant's understanding of dark matter, I'll refrain from suggesting it good or bad. They have a St. Louis selection of foods (among other locales), but no Red Hot Riplets! You can't get these anywhere in town, and it would be great if they started stocking them. Please. Stopped in while vacationing to check out the selection. This is a pretty neat spot you can grab a bite to eat then pick up some specialty grocery items and your favorite beverage. I like to stop in liquor stores in new town so I can get beer I cannot get at home and I was able to accomplish this. Very friendly people working here. Prices seemed just right and on certain things the sale prices were outstanding. I think this would definitely be a regular spot for me if I lived in Springfield. read more

My father was in World War 1. He was an aircraft mechanic. When the war ended, there was quite a lot of root beer snapps available. And that's what he celebrated with. I don't think I've ever been to a liquor store with more exceptional service! Everyone who works at this Brown Derby is very attentive and knowledgable. Several different workers helped my mom and I pick our beer for my stepdad and one walked me all the way over to find what I was looking for (instead of just pointing in that direction). 2 different workers offered to carry my box out to the car for me. This location has a cafe, an excellent cheese selection, and small gifts. They even have beer and wine tastings on the weekends. I love this place! read more

What a fabulous find! We were in town visiting friends, and wanted to bring some good wine as a gift, but hadn't had the foresight to bring something from home (Sonoma County). Decided to stop here in hopes of finding something other than Kenwood/Sebastiani wines that we usually find out of state. We were absolutely delighted to find a small but excellent assortment of cheese, nuts, and crackers, and a diverse selection of wine from all countries and regions. Evan was particularly knowledgeable, and helped us pick out a wonderful Evangelho Vinyard Pinot Noir that we left with our friends, another of their 2012 Zinfandel, and a Twoemy Pinot, both of which we're taking home! Also got a taste of a bourbon creme liqueur that we fell in love with, which we'll be sharing with more friends on this trip. There is much to commend this store, but I had a bad experience there when my wife and I tried to have a snack one Sunday afternoon. We just wanted some pastries and coffee. No coffee. Fine. But the bonbons we ordered weren't the right flavor. Several employees came to tell us that we were wrong and they were right. Finally a "manager" arrived. He told us we were wrong too but agreed to give us another one free which ought to have been the right flavor. It was wrong too. During this whole process, we were made to feel like we were troublemakers or freeloaders. It was needlessly frustrating. And disappointing. read more

This is a pretty good place to have around; we have had guests from out of town comment on what a great selection they have. BD is also a very respectable "go-to" store for a fast gift, with a nice array of food items and "gifty" stuff as well as booze. Sure, it's overpriced, but it really is an overwhelming selection. Why only 3 stars? Well, it takes more than a bunch of stuff to make a really, really good store, and I can't seem to go in here without getting some attitude from at least a few of the staff. I feel like its a type of discrimination but I am not going to mention what type. One quick example; waiting in line to pay with an armload, and the clerk chooses to skip over me like I am invisible and check out someone who just strolls up instead. It's super casual while having amazing food and the option to try several different kinds of wine to choose from that I probably would have never tried otherwise. One of the coolest shops I know of around. Yes they have wine, A Lot Of Wine, an amazing selection of beer, and of course every Liquor you can imagine, but they have SOOOO much more. Anything from an amazing selection of international cheeses to all kinds of other gourmet foods, great gift ideas for anyone... I could make this list go on and on but It would be a really long review, just go check it out for yourself. Their staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable on all of their products and if you tell them you like a specific wine but want to try something different, they'll give you three other options and tell you how they compare. I affectionately refer to this place as "The Museum". There is tons of booze here, plus cheese and bread and what-not. The selection is rivaled by few, and the prices are really good. If you don't feel like going all the way to Macadoodles, this is the place to be for your alcohol requirements. The best store in this area. The managers make great efforts to locate special items. They now carry four absinthe so, including the very best: Pernod, Vieux Pontarlier, St George, Kübler. The brandies and whiskies are excellent; the wine selections are eclectic, superbly organized. Always check out the bargain bin; my wife has found so fine wines there. Huge wine selection. Pretty good liquor selection. Friendly staff and very clean. Specialty beer selection is great and they sell single bottles that you can mix and match with a 3 bottle minimum. They also have a wide variety of meats and cheeses for snacks if you desire. My only complaint, and this is coming from a Captain and diet drinker, is that the only soda they sell is from a mini cooler near the checkout which holds about 12- 20oz bottles; however I didn't mind stopping elsewhere for soda since they had an amazing special on Captain Morgan. read more
