So the Big K headed in first while I went to Dollarama nearby to waste some time. How long could buying a hockey stick take? I finally had to enter National Sports to investigate the Big K's disappearance and within record time I was greeted by a very friendly salesperson who not only found The Big K for me, but three perfectly wonderful, very expensive hockey sticks that could significantly improve The Big K's game (and in sum total cost more than my dishwasher.) After much careful consideration, The Big K finally settled on "just one" (thank goodness) from this neatly organized and well-stocked store. I rushed the Big K with stick in hand to the check-out (in an effort to prevent him from buying anything else.) We had a pleasant experience here the other day getting our son his first pair of (used) skates!…read more When we got there we were greeted immediately by a friendly, knowledgeable employee and our son was promptly fitted in the proper sized skates. They are used but in excellent condition and were sharpened for us as well. It's $30 plus tax for a pair of used skates and sharpening. Will definitely come back again next year for his next size up!

This should be your first stop if you would like to experiment with any kind of sport since the staff is knowledgeable and used to dealing with first timers. Silly questions won't bother them, they are accustomed to it. Prices are very reasonable and they take trade-ins of your old gear. At least they will take their used gear back the next day or the next season if you want to trade up or get a different size. Then you will only pay the difference and help support the store with renewed stock, a very cool idea! So there you go - no excuses when someone says, 'Let's go skating!'

Ever drive 2-3hours to go skiing AND FORGOT YOUR SKI BOOTS. Yup this happened to someone in our…read moreski group. We ran into blue mountain, thinking- no big deal go to blue mountain, get a boot rental, shave off 20% with the ikon pass and we're good to go- No! So Blue Mountain only rents out ski and boot sets for what they say is liability reasons. A rental at $80-90 with $20% is still a sizeable amount of change. So I looked up Mountain Side Sports as most mountain destination have some offsite rental places- a little drive, requires coordinating to pick up in advance and drop off before you leave town. So I saw their rental boots only $30. So my bootlegs group member stopped in and explained he brought his skis and forgot his boots. The shop was very nice to explain the boot may require adjustment to the skis- and then when you do go back to your original boots at home- you would have to get it adjusted again. Realizing the struggles- they were so nice to just offer the rental for $30 for the set- for convenience. That honestly was so nice. I look forward to directing rental equipment peeps to this place. It's honestly easier to rent offsite, pull on your ski or snowboard boots and leave your shoes in the car- rather than wasting money on a locker rental or doing the twice trip to the car at the start of the rental and at the end- and if you know blue mountain- parking isn't easy- non Subaru drivers don't respect the Subaru exclusive spots :/. I had mistakenly switched the shoe size on the rental form for a couple members of my group, which was a mistake I had apologized to the staff for. In return, this staff member called me "annoying" and "the worst customer he had that day." These are exact quotes. What could have been a smooth experience instead left a sour taste in my mouth that reeked of unprofessionalism and disrespect. With other rental shops nearby offering similar services, I will not be returning here.
