They must rake the beach so that all the creepy floaty thingys stay at bay. The fish however really like to bite at this one which kind of creeps me out. I mush prefer a good chlorinated swimming pool, but those aren't always available. There are lifeguards at this location. The swimming area is quite small and quite shallow, but I think its made more for the kiddies not for doing any serious laps or anything. Basically its a nice little area to go cool off in. The park itself is nice. There are picnic tables up the hill. It's clean and well maintained. Flat surface parking, but it does fill up pretty quickly making it difficult to find a spot on a really warm day.

This is a decent park overall…read more We like to walk here because the path is fully paved and it goes most of the way around the lake (Highland Lake). To get around the whole lake, you'll need to exit and walk on neighborhood roads in the same rotation that you've been moving and re-enter the park when you come across it again. I kind of wish that it went around the whole lake, but then again, I'm not a fan of eminent domain and steamrolling things. So I'll take it as is. There are newer benches throughout, plus a pavilion, plus grills and a small playground. Geese and ducks love the lake and rarely come on land, so hopefully no goose attacks are in your future. I cannot guarantee that, however. The parking lot is big, unless there are a lot of people there. Then it's not big enough. ;-) As I always say, "Better a Kordiak than a cardiac!" (Actually, I've never said that. Um, never mind!) Though it is good to get out and walk, I will say. (I do actually say that.) That's my 23 cents on this dealio.

They have great play structures for kids. Multiple areas to play and everything from traditional slides and swings to spin toys and odd Teter totters. They also have areas to set up bounce houses if a family wanted to have a party here. They have great areas to picnic with covered patios that are first come first serve. They have a decent bathroom structure it's no Central Park Maple Grove but they are clean. Your a bit off the beaten path it feels remote which might not feel good to moms if there isn't people around as a dad of three girls it's refreshing. The nature center building is closed on the weekend but the trails are open dawn to dusk. The trails were nice and secluded with so many native species of trees and flowers and animals. The trials aren't very well labeled as far as direction so taking a picture of the map was handy! The overall terrain was very easy and took us 30 minutes to walk the majority of the trail with frequent stops to read signs and watch birds. I would highly recommend and will be back again!

They have lovely grounds that are kept up. The playground didn't appear to be too old and they had one playground specifically for toddlers and another for big kids that had 2 huge slides. There are bathroom facilities near the beach and by the playground. They also had a water fountain. The beach was great. The water was clear and the floor was sandy. What a beautiful lake. And the water was warmer than I expected even on a cooler 75 degree day. Lots of places to park your cooler and/or towels and wasn't too busy. And lots of parking spaces too.

One of our favorite locations is Big Marine Park. There is public access to the lake on the North end however for $7.00 a day or a $30.00 for the year, you have access to so much more. From a boating perspective, the access is wide and nicely paved. Room enough for two vehicles at a time where the other access is a single access. Plenty of room to park. There is a fishing pier that is handicapped accessible. A really nice beach with a playground, picnic area and pavilion. There are even scenic hiking trails. The park is open from 6:00am to 10:00pm. Lots to like and enjoy about Big Marine Park for kids of all ages which is just one reason why we look forward to our next visit.

Beautiful Discover Center building that hosts many activities. Restored one-room schoolhouse also on the grounds (open only for special activities, though). The nature center is a bit out of the way and a little difficult to find, but worth the effort.
