Beautiful park on the water. Small parking area has one permitted spot and a concrete, switchback path leads past the lighthouse keepers cottage, lighthouse and boathouse. Informational signs along the path give a bit of history. At low tide the beach was quite wide. Pebbly pathside and rocky/slimy closer to the waterline. A few benches and picnic tables dot the pathway in full sun. Lovely gardens surround the house and crew quarters. The lightkeeps house can be rented on a nightly basis. The Browns Point Lighthouse is a little 4 acre green space that allows you to get some great nature and industrial watching in! It's close to the port so there's a lot of activity going on, but at the same time it's very quiet and it's a great place to just find a place to sit and chill for awhile. If you come on a Saturday afternoon there are free tours available and you're allowed to go inside of the buildings. The only downside is the parking. The lot is like 10 spaces and it's pretty tight. The houses around the park have blocked things off to prevent street parking. Best bet? There's another park fairly close by with a good amount of parking. It's a little way to walk, but it's going to be the only realistic option if the official lot is full. read more

it's a park, it's got a lighthouse, and it's on Brown's Point! perfect!! exactly as advertised and that's something rare these days. came down from the high desert on a cold and blowy day with a heavy mist hanging around trying to quench the sun. I dressed for weather but just not this particular weather, I was hoping for something more sunnier with a warm soft breeze from the southeast, you know, exactly the sort of thing that never happens on the sound. so I basically needed a good hat with a back-flap but we're on the brink of the 21st-and-a-half century so don't bate your breath. the park is kinda nice though with interesting parking up there and access to the waters down here with a large lawn and a small lighthouse in between. if you don't want too much nature on you there's a paved path down to some benches set in concrete at the water's edge where you can get sprayed with different nature. read more

I used to visit once or twice a year. Today I was intimidated by the No Trespassing sign right beside the opening in the fence and other intimidating signs just north of the few parking spots that look like they might be available to the public. There's nothing to indicate that it's a public park, just lots of signs that either tell you to stay away or review to obscure groups who apparently hold some sway over what goes on there. read more

Stopped at this lighthouse/park on my trip back from Tacoma to Seattle. I got there early so had several parking options available. When I left around 10am, all the parking spots were already full. So get there early. There were few people fishing and some walking their dogs. The scenery is beautiful I could sit there for hours. I came here this past week, excited to walk along the water and relax at a park with a view. A few things to note if you go: 1) The lighthouse is under renovation and so it's covered in white tarp and fenced off. I was very disappointed considering that this park is named for its lighthouse. 2) The park is relatively small. You can walk around the beach if it's low-tide, but otherwise it's just a short sidewalk that's interrupted by the lighthouse construction. 3) The grassy area is mostly brown with only a small patch of green grass around the cottage museum (the cottage museum has limited visiting hours so I didn't go in). 4) There were lots of fishers, and so if you're into fishing, this would be a nice place to go. It also has a nice view of Commencement Bay and would be a great setting for a picnic. Overall, I think this might be a one time experience for me; given the choice between Dash Point (which is maybe a mile away at most) and Browns, I'd definitively choose Dash Point because it has a longer beach walk and several hiking trails. It also has an equally spectacular view of the sound. read more

Parking is the pits, somehow BPIC a private club house has got the government to let them fence off the parking lot so you have to drive though the neighborhood looking for a place to park. We met with some friends here to hang out as recommended by J and it's a nice spot, very relaxing. There's a large grassy area, a rock beach, and a handful of benches/picnic tables. There were only about 10-15 people there throughout the two hours we spent so it was fun to hang out, toss the frisbee and play with our dogs! There's a small lighthouse (that you can't tour, at least not casually) and also the former lighthouse keepers' house that is listed as an airBnB with a garden in the back :) In the (small) parking lot, they do have an ADA accessible port a potty situation but it was like almost to the top so I noped right out of there! read more

Beautiful on a summer day! Parking can be sparse on a busy day and it can be hard to find street parking too. There aren't many trees, so finding a shady spot can be hard too. Bring a blanket, chairs and maybe even a pop up tent to enjoy your day! read more

I was trying to venture out and see more of local parks in my area and I decided to take a quick trip to Browns Point. It's not a very big park by any means and there are only about 6 parking spaces. The adjacent lot is a private lot so your can't park over there. Even though the park is somewhat small, you can walk along the coastline which makes it seem bigger. I did like that this park was not busy and even though the lighthouse is enclosed in a fence with barbed wire on it with video surveillance, you can still get a good view of a little piece of Tacoma history. The light house doesn't appear to be working anymore and has long since been retired. The lighthouse keeper's house nearby is still open to the public. In fact, some of the historical society ladies were there pruning and gardening and keeping the place up while I was there. It is available to be rented as well. The view here is amazing though and sooo quiet and peaceful. It's a perfect place to relax. There are doggie doo bags & a little bit of space for your dogs to roam, so bring your dogs. Also there is signage that seals and sea lions may sometimes grace you with their presence on the coast, so be sure and give them the space they need and don't harass them. The only "service" on site is a single port-a-potty, so do your doo before you come if you don't fancy poppin a poo in the Honey Bucket. read more

This is a great place to spend a sunny afternoon or even noom for picnic The scenery is beautiful, great pictures opportunity, lots of people with dogs, great place to play freezbe, there is also lots of lose tree branches, and sea glass too. We went in February which I think is off Season so it was a very relaxed walk around the beautiful property which includes sandy beach, gorgeous Sound waters to view, and some plant areas. Lots of driftwood and a lighthouse without its big lamp. read more

The park features an old victorian home that's preserved as a museum. It's open on Saturdays, not sure if there is a fee or not, I have yet to check it out. It's adorable and well kept with a flourishing garden of flowers adorning it. The light house is on the edge of land close to the water. It's surrounded by a fence and barbed wire to keep vandals off. Kind of unsightly, it was built in the late 1920's so it has the plain "art deco" shape. It's been boarded up and reprinted numerous times. The park has a lot of open grass. A good place to sun bathe in the summer, there is minimal shade. The view of tacoma is excellent. You can see all of Ruston way. The parking is bad, especially for fishing season. Finding the park is tricky, too. It feels like winding down alley ways and residential driveways trying to park. read more

Hidden on the tip of Tacoma and federal way this area was a little tricky to get too. We took a drive and felt like we were somewhere in the east, it seemed very peaceful and cool. The lighthouse was more of a broken light house which was kind of weird. We did enjoy the nice scenery and nice little picnic tables. We got some lunch and ate it there. This area is tucked in the back of other homes and parking is limited. No bathroom that I've saw on site. Ah! Summer! I feel like I am off to a good start by hitting parks, national monuments and botanical gardens! Despite living in Tacoma I have never been to Brown's Point until recently. This section of Tacoma seems isolated from the rest of the city and feels like it is more Federal Way than the city south of here. Arguably this is probably the best park in this area. There are a couple of state parks nearby but there is not anything worth seeing there really. Brown's Point has a lighthouse. It does not look like a typical Washington lighthouse at all but is more of a little nub of a building. There are some interesting buildings on the grounds besides the lighthouse. There is an old boathouse, a cottage house and a bell house. All three of these buildings are a small museum. I am not sure what the hours they are open here since we just kind of happened to show up. There is no entrance fee to go into these buildings but there is a suggested donation. The cottage house is restored nicely with lots of household items that takes you back to the "olden" days. The bell house is cool. You can ring the bell which is huge and quite loud. The boathouse is also fun to see and there is an old boat ramp that goes to Puget Sound. There are beaches here too. On the side of the boathouse the beach is pretty rocky but if you go to the other end towards the south or southeast there is a nice pebbly beach there. Brown's Point is not exactly a good park to stay fit at. There are no bike trails and not really a good place to run since it is such a small park. You could potentially run down the beach towards Tacoma but all that is most likely private property. So with that in mind the park is best suited to fishing, picnics, looking at the buildings and just chilling out. Parking is a little scarce here, especially if there is a special event going on at the restaurant or club that is next door to the park. read more

We live in northeast Tacoma and Browns Point is the closest park to where we live. Definitely a very scenic location for a park right on the water with views of Tacoma across the bay and Vashon Island. The only downside is the electric gate that blocks the entrance to the general parking lot area...everytime I pass by it's usually closed and seems like only those who have access to opening it are part of the Browns Point Improvement Clubhouse or the lighthouse. Usually I will park my car the playfield and then walk my dog to the park where there is at least a pedestrian opening. The park is not super crowded at all and one weekday morning I found out a group of local residents bring their dogs out there to play. I observed their dogs were off leash and although not technically I think it's not allowed, I don't believe that rule is enforced as they said they have been doing it for years. Although I have a rambunctious puppy that I still am building up trust to be off-leash, I did try letting him off as there was tons of green space in a relatively enclosed area...it is definitely a nice place for a dog to let out his energy BUT obviously it is not an official off leash area with several outlets out of the park so BEWARE and at least watch where your dog is going. Once I got him back on leash, the stroll around the edge/perimeter was quite nice. The lighthouse, I'm sure very historical and a landmark of this area is pretty "eh" and looks more like a Cold War remnant, but the lighthouse keeper's home itself is very old style quaint. It really is a nice escape for you and your dog. read more

I loved this little beach! There's a small hidden parking lot with maybe 6-8 stalls down a little residential street. There are a couple picnic tables on the grass slope that leads down to the pebbled beach. The lighthouse itself is a 1920's art deco style that is surrounded by a barbed wire fence and seems out of place in the PNW. The cute cottage on the grounds is a vacation rental.
