Wanted to find a new place to walk outdoors, see the water and enjoy the morning. This is a tucked away place and I'm glad to have found it. Sasha and I had a great day. Good walk lots of smells for her. We will come back. Plenty of parking. Good vibes, calm peaceful. Lots of people were out walking with their dogs, spouse and alone. It was a very good experience. I recommend this park. They also have a restaurant across the street for afterwards if interested. You can also see more of the water on the other side. I didn't go walking there, I drove over. Very beautiful. Sasha was not having that walk too close to the water lol. read more

Titlow is one of the many wonderful parks that Tacoma has to offer! Quick and easy to find with a parking lot, there are several activities to do here. There's a playground and splash park for the kiddos. I'm in it for the walking. In total it's about 2 miles. You can walk around the lagoon or take the larger loop that heads around to the beach and goes over to the picnic area. The beach is a great place to get a view of the Narrows and possibly see some sea life. A majority of the paths aren't paved so they might be a little muddy, but they're well maintained. The little "Tacoma" art installation in the water might be my favourite part on the account it's amusing to say "Tacoma is sinking!" when King tides come through. There's an old structure in the water that really reminds me of a mooring dolphin so I just had to research it - that's exactly what it is! There was a large hotel that brought in a lot of traffic and there was a ferry terminal there before the Narrows was built. I also learned that there was an octopus wrestling championship in 1963...who does that?! A lot of people, apparently as it wasn't the first event. Overall really nice park, though the history does make it quite a bit cooler. read more

I spent an hour walking this park which has a lifetime of personal and family connection and interaction. The street end was where the Ferry dock was for service to Gig Harbor after the bridge collapsed and a new bridge was built. Family and friends worked the ferry and building a new bridge. The lodge has been fixed up as has much of the park that is visible from the road is very well kept and inviting. A group was building a handsome new rail fence along the roadside of this beautiful park. The beach and lodge have great memories of summer camps and family reunions. The beach needs some TLC as does the lagoon. Restoration of the lagoon has been long talked about but still seem a bit of long hoped for item on a bucket list. The TOA area could be so much more. Helpful volunteers mentioned a new bridge is in the works. I walked the trails with group on a nature walk. It was informative and fun to be with group of enthusiasts that walk local area trails. That said the group of folks did say they hope the trails on this area of Tacoma would give feeling of comfort and safety. The comfort was there and a few folks were picking up trash on the trials. It was mentioned not to walk trails alone. That is a sad but truthful thing on urban trails anywhere these days. Great positive visit with memories and reconnecting with a part of Tacoma history. I would highly recommend this wonderful park. I strongly encourage all of the region to make the trip this inviting neighborhood to explore this wonderful gem that this regional attention has been for a lifetime. read more

Definitely an urban beach, along with Owens, Steilacoom, etc. Expansive Sound view including venerable bridge is excellent and also lots of local history worth digging into. Being what it is in its city location, beach texture is gravel and cobble in all tides low and high, no fine sugar sand nor mudflats here. Access itself is okay and roughed-in. Love love love love love love love this park! I volunteer here. Build fires on the beach. Fish and play in the water. Great place to meet people. Everyone is friendly. I make friends every time I go. Good for walking with or without pets, biking, running, hiking, and scuba diving. Jellyfish aren't super so watch out. read more

Pretty cool place for many different events and gatherings here. It's really easy and straight forward to find if you're using GPS and it's your first time. Parking lots on site, along with side parking once you get closer to the water/train tracks. They have a great play area for kids and the splash pad area to cool off during hot days. It was a doggy and me day, so I took my pup down to the waters which is past the tracks. There are wooden picnic tables around with the water spouts with different heights if you want to rinse your whole body off, your feet, or if your pup needs some water. When you head down a slight decline to get to the waters, there are many rocks, so I recommend good water shoes or something with a good base. I wish sand would replace all the rocks to give it the actual feel of a beach. The water (during this hot week) was still slightly cool, but felt good on your feet. My pup got in and did some splashing which must have felt good for him. As we were walking back, a train was passing through, so we had to wait. No big deal. Nothing we can do about that. Over all, this place is great. There's also little stores and restaurants nearby, so give this place a try! read more

After meeting a friend for a mid-week meal at a restaurant near Titlow Beach, he and I decided to visit the beach for a sunset stroll. As it was a weeknight, the area was pretty much deserted other than us, and the flock of seagulls that were watching us ;-) Both the beach and the park are quite pleasant in and of themselves, but the ajacent train tracks make some very jarring interruptions whenever a train rumbles through. Despite the train noise, when you live in a big city it's nice to have parks like this close at hand. read more

I am not that fond of this park. The trail is really short and you hardly feel like you're getting a workout. Also the water by the parking lot is stagnant and smells really boggy. Obviously the free splashpad is probably what draws most families here. There is a nice area next to the splashpad if you want to picnic or just chill. There are also tennis courts next to the parking lot if you're wanting to do that. Also, I've never had a problem with parking here although even though the parking lot is in plain view, I still feel a little unsafe leaving my car or walking the trail. I honestly would rather drive a bit further and just go to Point Defiance as the trails are more variable and it's a bit more natural and scenic. The beach is much better as well. read more

Great park with something for everyone - great views, beach, walking trails, play fields, playground, splash park, and the occasional train spotting. Parking can be a bit tricky, but it's well worth the effort. But don't forget the sunscreen - there aren't many covered/shady areas and they fill up fast. read more

Titlow Beach has a cute little park with plenty of playground equipment for the kids to run around on. The beach and the park are more or less cut in half with the railroad tracks. Train traffic is frequent here. Amtrack and freight trains often go through here. I hate being nearby a freight train here because it blasts my ears apart. The Amtrack train does not have such a loud horn and is ok to be closer to it from the fence. There is a nice walking path along the beach which takes you to a forested area. The beach along the sound is wonderful and the view from the higher paths is great! The pavement ends and then resumes which takes you past a club house, a paved road and yet more paths. It is great walking along these paths in the city because it feels like you are in the country. Really a nice little park! read more

This was a cool park. My family enjoyed the playground and noticed the splash pad. It looked like everyone was having a good time. Only four stars because on the other side of the park, there is a recreational area for bbqing and it is kind of ghetto looking. Also, since it's by the water, there is a fishy smell. Overall a cool place. read more

We decided to skip the park area and went straight for the beach. If you drive North of the parking lot area of the park, you'll come across a private road labeled along the lines of "hidden road to the beach." Park here. There's a path surrounded by forest that leads you over the train tracks and towards some weird, fenced off buildings. Forget that. Before crossing the bridge, take the steep path to the right and head down toward the train tracks. There's no troll under the bridge. You can continue on the path to the right (which is probably safer), or you can head down to the left. You'll have to scurry across the train tracks and walk along the tracks for several hundred feet before reaching the water. I was hoping a train would pass by because it would have been exciting, but we weren't lucky on this occasion. What a gorgeous view of the Sound and the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. This is a cool spot for photos and even for sitting down on the rocks to do some thinking or drawing/painting. read more

When I lived in University Place, it was a fast 3 minute walk to Titlow Beach & Park. While the park is adequate, (maybe is has improved since I've left the area) the beach is not for the faint of heart. It is a total rocky beach and the first time we took our dog there, he cut his feet on the sharp rocks. So if you bring your dog, please take along his water socks as well as your own! Since slipping and bashing out my valuable grey matter was and will NEVER BE AN OPTION, I looked around and espied THE BEACH TAVERN, a place where locals hang out. Everyone knows or ought to know that if the locals are there in mass, there's got to be a good reason and it didn't take ME long to discover what was so unique about the place: THE HALF OF CHICKEN, or what to my eyes seemed to be a half of seagull, that's how huge it was. The price was, at that time, a very affordable $3.50 (as far as I can remember) and after tasting, I would have paid a heck of a lot more! Crispy to perfection on the outside and JUICY as all get out on the inside! SO GOOD, SO VERY VERY DELICIOUS! No fast food chain would or could ever be good enough to wave from a distance at that smack-a-licious bird! The Beach Tavern became MY hangout; I WAS a local. I met Chuck (Chuckles) the cook and so became friends ( I ain't stupid, if you can't kiss 'em, you ALWAYS TIP THE COOK!) So if you love FRIED CHICKEN the size of a seagull, moist & delicious as nothing you've ever had before, the BEACH TAVERN at Titlow Beach & Park is where YOU MUST GO! Although it IS a bar, there is a separate dining area for families, so there is no reason why you can't enjoy the best chicken on the WEST COAST, BAR NONE! read more

Couldn't find this park in a search, so I guess I'll add it and hope I don't stumble across it later. I like Titlow park. They have a large area for the kiddos to run and a couple different big toys. The train tracks are right there between the park and the beach. My son is obsessed with trains, so it's a huge bonus for him. They're currently doing an awful lot of construction work. I'll update this after we go back a few times and when that's done. read more

This was my kids and my getaway while my husband was deployed. We drove here every weekend and just spent the day exploring the beach, the little trails, and the park. Everyone is so friendly in this area, and great pictures when the sun goes down!! I recommended this beach to all my military mommy friends and they all fell in love with this place. read more

Awesome park and great for kids. It has a water area for during the summer. It has a play area for little ones and another for bigger kids. There is a trail you may go with your children and might encounter some forest creatures. It is pretty close to the beach that is on the other side of the train tracks. We got to see two bald eagles perched on the tippi top of the tree. The only thing we don't like is after it rains there are enormous puddles of water that are higher than the children so be careful if you go after it rained for a long time. There are clean restrooms that are open most of the times we have been there. read more

This visit to Titlow was specifically for rock finding!!! Me and my girlfriend were on a mission to do some landscaping and found this beach to provide the best variety, don't worry we didn't take much. I have been here before to walk, the trail can get a little sketchy, I would never walk it alone...but it has the beach, trails a park and then some. They are doing some construction by the pool and park area so beware of that. read more

We weren't planning on going here but stumbled on it while looking for a place to hang out for the afternoon. There is an awsome splash park for the kiddos with plenty of benches and picnic tables. We also took the path through the trees and hoped to find a way to the beach. Eventually we found a way down, but it took several attempts down pathes that ended with cliffs. New equipment there. The splashtastic park area took the place of the pool which is probably better with all the kids peeing in the pool anyway. Now they just get water prayed or splashed on them. There are three different playground equipment areas. A "trail" area that gets a little bit of tagging and part of it is right next to the railroad track. The "beach" is dependent on the tide. Some days you might be able to walk out, but I have been there where you have to just look from the dock. read more

Definitely more park than beach. The highlight is its large and awesome spray pad. There is also a pretty good play area complete with plenty of equipment for kids of all ages. A few picnic tables areas are scattered about, a few of them even covered. Where this park/beach fails is the enormous gross pond and wetland area separating it from train tracks and the actual beach. The best fluffy grass area is fenced off for some unknown reason leaving only dead grassy areas to play on. The spray pad alone earns this park four stars but I'm knocking it down one for the awful pond/train combination and how they negatively influence the beauty of this place. Also, having a ton of space is great, but not if it's unusable. I'm probably a bit biased against Tacoma in general, too. You just can't avoid the occasional "aroma." All in all a decent park. If I lived in the area I would probably visit again. read more

Search for crabs and critters at low tide. Rocky beach so wear solid shoes. Next to Steamers. Small parking lot. Loud regular train. A fun place, but hard to relax for caution of the tracks. read more

I really like Titlow. It's walking distance from my parents house and it's a nice little park. It's got some history and there used to be a little hotel there as well (it's the brown run down building). There is a man made lake with ducks and geese that you can feed, there's several public and secluded trails that you can take walks, jog or bike. There's also a community pool that's open in the summer. Also a couple tennis courts, and a basketball court. The train tracks are there, some right next to the trail and they go by quite frequently. They have a two playgrounds and also a huge grassy area for dogs to just run. Steamers the restaurant is right next to the park as well as a few dive-y bars. There's also an area where scuba divers scuba, and there's a viewing point which has a great view of the narrows bridge. There is also a beachy, sandy, pebbly area right on the ocean. Once I saw like a 100 jellyfish washed up on shore and they were all dead. Also, several years back some girl committed suicide by throwing herself in front of the train but honestly I love this park. The air's cleaner and it's so green and peaceful and it's a great place to just be. There's plenty of parking and it's safe and friendly though it 's a little rundown. Great place!! read more

Interesting and neat park. There's a nice spot to feed the ducks. It is right on the water. The playground is nice and has a large variety of play equipment. This is always a nice spot to go with more middle class like individuals attending this park. I have never had a problem with theft or safety here but that doesn't mean to not be alert as those things can happen anywhere. It is worthwhile to explore this park. read more

Yesterday my friend and Iet uo just to hang out. We went for a walk and not 20 minutes later we get back to find 3 cars (including mine) were broken into. A dad with 2 children has his window out, my lock got messed up and another guy had his things stolen (which were covered and he had tinted windows) has anyone else had this problem? read more

What a lovely place! Sit on the beach, take a walk along the waterfront or through the nature trails, let the kids play on the playground or at the splash pad, or even enjoy some fish and chips and ice cream while you sit and watch for whales. This is a true Tacoma gem! read more
