Dr. McLucas is the most experienced physician in this field. I had my UFE last Thursday and truly feel I received world-class care from the time we first spoke about my symptoms. He consistently checked on me throughout the weekend to see how things were going, and his follow-up has been impressive. Wish I could give NO stars to this f#@kin doctor. I am mad at myself for not writing a review about this doctor when I received my surgery back in February 2008. If I had, the review before me by "Service I" would not have been posted because I would have saved someone else from going through this unnessary surgery. I like Service chose him because he supppsedly had been performing this surgery since I believe 94'. He said if I did not have this procedure performed they will only get bigger. I had 3 Fibroid tumors. One the size of a grapefruit & two the size of eggs. I am getting mad all over again just thinking about this s#!t. I still have my f#@kin tumors ! Why you ask ? Because all these doctors want to keep everyone in bad health so they can continue to keep making money. I went through all that pain for nothing because I am still in pain till this day. He NEVER removed them. He kept coming out from the surgery telling my mom that everything was going good when he wasnt doing s#1t but cutting me open for nothing so he could get paid. After the pain from the surgery went away I did start having pain again a couple of months later but I thought it was all in my head because I'm thinking that they were gone. At this time I had no insurance so I could not go back to see him so one day I was in EXTREME pain and I ended up at MLK Hospital where they did an ultrasound on me and found out that they were NEVER removed. So at this time THOU SHALL NOT KILL was the most stupidest commandment ever written because I was so ready to go catch a murder case. When you are playing with someones livlihood it makes you turn into another person. Also whoever administered the anesthesia didn't give me enough because I woke up during the last ten minutes of my surgery and I could feel them taking tubes out of me and I was trying to speak to let them know I was awake but appearantly that s#1t is so strong that it impairs your speach cause I could not say a word. Also @ MLK (killer king is what it is referred to in the hood but now I see we need to give ucla a name now also) they were telling me that he should not have performed that surgery on me because I was too young and then they also stated that I should now rush to have kids. I read reviews and read the ones prior to mine regarding Dr. McLucas and as a result I am compelled to tell my story, compelled to add my 2 cents. I was referred to Dr. McLucas by a friend who had endometriosis and later twins which Dr. McLucas birthed and which she conceived naturally. If you are familiar with endometriosis, it is usually a prognosis for infertility. My friend told me that Dr. McLucas removed her endometriosis while he was exploring a different problem she had come in to resolve. She later got pregnant with twins, and Dr. McLucas birthed them. They were premature but healthy. My friend got top notch treatment, as some wrote before, under private care for insurance care prices. She was thrilled. At the time, I had been looking for an OBGYN in LA and the fact that Dr. McLucas is a leader in fibroid research certainly helped me seal the deal. I have 2 generations of hysterectomies on my mother's side due to fibroids. Also, as some of you may know, some doctors do not do it all, some do not do surgery, and birthing on top of their regular office hours. Dr McLucas is able to do all those things. Ever since the first time I came in for a checkup, around 2002, and until today Dr. McLucas remains the most committed doctor to his practice and to his patients that I have ever come across. He runs a tight ship, he is on top of every detail and makes sure that his patients, yes, that I have everything I need. Once, I called in claiming that I was having a pain in my breast and within an hour I got a call from the office that I have am appointment at some Beverly Hills facility which I could never afford and that I could never imagine to receive care in. I have several experiences with health scares the Dr. McLucas helped me through. This, especially since I moved to LA on my own and have no family to speak of on the West Coast. Any issue I have had I did not hesitate to ask Dr. McLucas about, even if it is a referral that has nothing to do with his practice. He is there for his patients and you do not need to be a genius to figure this out. I had a laparoscopy a few years ago. I remember Dr. McLucas made it so easy, it was in a private facility, it was so easy, no red tape. He made it affordable for me because even though I have insurance through my teaching job, the insurance would not cover this type of level of care. This is my story. And here is another. Very recently my very good friend was telling me how she has been experiencing pains and abnormal mood swings; this, over the course of about 3 months. Her OBGYN was not able to see her repeatedly while she was having those symptoms. I know that even if you are not under the care of Dr. McLucas, if you call in as a new patient he will still find time to see you immediately. So, I recommended she go see him while she still had the symptoms. Like clockwork she was seen within one work day. Within one week she was diagnosed and treated for a fibroid. The out patient procedure was done in a private facility. Later that day I went to visit her at the SLS hotel in Beverly Hills. Her room was comped for first time patients of Dr. McLucas'. She had a nurse drive her and a nurse on duty checking in on her for the rest of the night even though it was an outpatient procedure. After that she had some issues having to do with soreness, Dr. McLucas was there to guide her to a physical therapist. Her issues were resolved in what you can call lightning speed in the medical world, and that is the greatest gift anyone can give - health. I am in complete dismay with the few negative reviews. I have been a patient of Dr. McLucas for almost a decade. I have never had a better doctor in my whole entire 37 years of living. If you have any doubts, just go in for yourself and then be sure to write a review. There will always be the crazy factor, the angry idiots that ruin things for reasonable people. It is actually offensive to me to read such outrageous accusations about Dr. McLucas. So here it is, let me know if you have any questions. THE WORST DR! stay away, I saw him a while back and I have never met a more arrogant person in my life, I tried to ask him questions and instead of taking his time to answer me, he kept taking out brochures and handing them to me, telling me to read them! First, I would like to preface my review by saying that I am an actual patient, not a friend of the doctor writing a fake review as at least one review on this page has suggested has been happening. (BTW - I was mentioned in a previous Yelp review as a patient and felt compelled to tell my story!) :-) I went to Dr. McLucas last September complaining of a pinch in my lower right side. My actual gyno couldn't see me for over a week, and my friend had suggested that I try her doctor (Dr. McLucas) because he will usually make time to see patients right away. Skeptical, I called the office and they were able to see me within one day. He told me he wanted to do a laparoscopy and a hysteroscopy, and scheduled me for the surgery within the week. Leading up to the surgery, the people he had working in his office were incredibly attentive and organized - answering all of my questions promptly via phone AND email. I went to a private facility in Beverly Hills where I was treated by top-notch nurses and anesthesiologists. Upon completion of my surgery, I was immediately told that I had a fibroid, and that they could schedule me to have it removed that same week, in the same facility. I went in and once again a couple days later and had the fibroid removed. I was once again completely satisfied by the treatment I got at the surgical center. Totally top notch. Additionally, they had suggested that I do an overnight stay at the Pearl Recovery Retreat to get through the roughest parts of the pain post-surgery. This happened to be on a floor of the SLS Hotel where I had dedicated nurses coming in every hour or tow to check on me, ask me what I wanted to eat (AMAZING FOOD), and whether I was feeling any pain whatsoever. If I was, they gave me medication to make sure I didn't feel a thing, Did I mention this was all FREE??? It was the best way I could imagine to recover from this surgery. After I got home, and for the following couple of weeks, the office checked-in on me regularly and promptly gave me advice for how to relieve discomfort. In my follow-up visits, Dr. McLucas would routinely do blood and/or urine tests to ensure that everything was fine (I actually found out I was anemic and that I needed to start taking iron). As for the cost, Dr. McLucas' office worked with my financial situation and gave me an EXTREMELY reasonable bill for both surgeries and were able to keep it well within what I told them I could afford. Additionally, there wasn't a separate cost for the private facility. Sue - the billing manager - is a gem, and was indispensable in facilitating the billing process, as well as making me feel at ease. I can't recommend Dr. McLucas and all of those who work in his office enough for their extraordinary care. I wish all doctor's would take their cues from him. Maybe then people wouldn't be so disillusioned with the health care industry. But don't get me started on that! read more

First, to be clear, I am also a patient and not the Doctor himself or part of his staff. I was referred to Dr. Bruce McLucas by my Ob/Gyn and I'm so thankful for that referral!! From the moment that I walked into his office I felt extremely comfortable by his amazing staff. I was a little early to my appointment and was walked to a room almost immediately. After a brief exam (blood pressure, temp check) I was ushered into Dr. McLucas' office. He was very thorough in explaining all of my options and did not rush me at all. He also didn't strike me as being greedy (as I read in another review) but very generous. He told me all about the procedure and the pros and cons of having a Uterine Artery Embolization. After hearing all that he had to say and after speaking with my husband alone for a little while, I decided to proceed with the surgery and make an appointment while still in the office. Since I now had a date in hand, I went back into the exam room to draw some blood. I'm 33 but my veins are horrible for drawing blood. She was extremely gentle with me and she was able to help me relax to successfully pull the blood she needed. My surgery date was in 2 weeks on January 3rd and yes I was a little nervous. I His private surgery center was very clean and his staff there was also very kind and knowledgeable. In no time at all they had me in a gown and hooked up to an IV. When the surgery was over, the staff was very attentive. I was in a lot of pain when I woke up but that's to be expected and the staff gave me meds whenever I asked to make the pain manageable. I had pre-arranged to stay overnight at the Pearl Recovery Center so after the surgery the staff had me rest for a few hours and continually checked my vitals to make sure that I was safe to travel to the next location. The Pearl Recovery Center was absolutely amazing and I would recommend it to even the pickiest of people. The next week I was scheduled to go back to the surgery center to have a Myomectomy and a Hysteroscopy. I was given the option to have them done the same day as the UAE but wanted to see how my body would handle the first procedure before doing anything else. Those procedures went very quickly and I was on my way home in just a couple of hours. There is not one moment that Dr. McLucas made me feel rushed or uncomfortable. No, he is not a conversationalist like I am but everyone's personalities are different. That doesn' t make him any less of an expert in his field. I challenge anyone that is having painful and heavy periods or serious fibroid issues like I had to see this man for a consultation. You should always do your research and make sure your insurance covers procedures before you have them done but my only regret is not having done this sooner! read more

Soo here I go a year and 2 months later in ER because I was in excrutiating pain from imagine my shock a Fibroid so big that I was told didn't just come up in a year but had been there all the time never touched. I thought this was over and I didn't have to worry anymore. Not so here I go my 3rd bought with irritating Fibroids. I have been seing Dr. McLucas since I was about 17 (so 28 years!), he is my mothers OBGYN and my sisters. I was diagnosed with Endometriosis at a very young age. He was always one step ahead and kept my girly parts healthy. I went through years of suffering with Endometriosis and going through various types of treatment til I was old enough and ready to start a family. Finally when we were ready to start a family I was able to have 3 children. My mom, sister and I all still see him with no regrets and no problems. We drive a far distance to see him. I know he is now known for the Fibroid work, but he is great at his OBGYN practice too. I give him all the credit for keeping me healthy and able to have children. It was touch and go that I would have been able to have just one child! He is very direct and I appreciate that. I see all these negative remarks and sad to see that. I have never written in yelp, but decided to write since I am very thankful for the embolization procedure that Dr. McLucas performed on me. I had bouts where I would feel like I had a bladder infection and had to urinate constantly. It seemed to get more frequent as I got older. My gynecologist gave me an ultrasound and said I had a fibroid in an unusual place that could be the cause of my problem. He suggested getting a hysterectomy. My nutritionist has always suggested trying to avoid evasive surgery if possible. So, I did some research on the internet and found out about embolization. Dr. McLucas has been a godsend! I wish I had known about him the first time I tried treatment for my fibroid's. My proceedure with Dr McLucas took place several years after another doctor had charged $35,000 for fibroid removal. He (the other dr.) removed some 20 fibroid's. I named the largest one baby Huey. But even though I was resigned to the surgery, I was not o.k. with the constant warning and requests for me to just have a total hysterectomy. I had to literally break down crying and talk of suicide for the other doctor and his staff (including the assisting surgeon and surgical nurse) to stop insisting I have a total hysterectomy. It was horrible! Dr McLucas treatment for my fibroid's was painless, quick, and easy. He assured me that I would not have to have a hysterectomy. In fact he never talks about that (not like the other doctor who was insisting that the next surgery would have to be a full hysterectomy). I have been well advised and treated in a courteous, professional, and friendly manner. He is very thorough and makes sure to regularly monitor any and all changes. I never worry anymore that the fibroid's are growing back because Dr McLucas keeps me informed of their shrinkage. I cannot express how appreciative I am for his help. I was really so despondent before going to see him, now I am happy, hopeful, and ecstatic that the fibroid's are fading away.. 10+ x stars! Dr. McLucas is a fabulous surgeon and compassionate person. My daughter and I have been going to him for years. I was #204 in the U.S. to have a Uterine Artery Embolization. The experience was better than I could have ever prayed for. Granted, he was willing to try and sure enough he was able to spare me from a hysterectomy. I am the proud and blessed Grandma of two grandbabies, only by the grace of Dr. McLucas. Like anything in life, surgeries (any type of procedure) may not always turn out as hoped, but at least Dr. McLucas makes the gallant effort. He has a wonderful sense of humor, all of his own great style. I have tried to make appointments on Friday to be able to see him with his "classy" bow tie on, in honor of his daughter's birth day. A very heart warming and loving gesture. Having a Master's in management, I have NEVER EVER seen a more efficient medical office in my life. I'm appalled that anyone could say that Dr. McLucas puts financial incentive above his patients. WRONG! My daughter didn't tell me that she recently had surgery despite her medical insurance being improperly terminated (a chapter all of it's own that Dr. McLucas is privy to). I was amazed ... though will still resolve the insurance issue, considering I just found about this. I am shaking and crying while typing this. Dr. ( I shudder to even call him that) Bruce McLucas never once cared to address what he did to me. Here we are 7 years latter, with chunks of my life missing due to depression, and today he has the gall to post a vague attempt to disassociate himself from his destruction of me. This man believes the human mind is inherently unintelligent except for his own, and that people here are unable to realize that his words are solely again about $$'s. It isn't HIPPA as the reason he claims not to comment on what he did to me, but rather I speak the truth. I still have the voicemail on an answering machine telling me to get to the hospital immediately, because "Sepsis" is serious. The caller said "You Could Die" ! I keep it to tell people. Wish there were negative stars to rate this doctor. Where do I begin? Dr. McLucas misdiagnosed my fibroids and told me mine were intramural when in fact they were submucosal (the type you're NOT supposed to have a UFE with). The UFE he performed was followed by unbearable pain which led to a trip to the hospital and emergency surgery during Christmas. To add insult to injury, only after a lot of detective work did I discover Dr. McLucas had taken a sample of my ovary without my consent. Makes my blood boil just thinking about it. I had my surgery with McLucas about a year ago and of course my fibroids were too large for this surgery- nothing really has changed. The fibroids never got smaller. He is doing this for the money. He billed my Insurance $ 10,000 for his services and the Facility he used "Beverly Hill's Physician billed the Insurance over $ 66,638.54 not to mention separate billing for the Anesthesia which was $ 5,000. I had to have an ultra sound which was $ 792.00 and 6 months after the surgery I had to have an MRI and my Insurance was billed $ 5,292.00 Since he is out of network my Insurance only paid a portion the rest I am responsible. He is very arrogant and does not care for the patients. I had numerous problems since the beginning of my visit. As I mention before I had my surgery last November and after your procedure they transfer you to a hotel for recovery, well while I was in that hotel the woman that drove me there took the liberty to go through my purse, she found my credit card and i was charge $ 300.00 on my credit card without my consent. When I spoke to Jamie the girl that used to work at McLucas office she told me that this was covered that Dr. McLucas was paying for this Bullshit! I am so upset at this so called Dr. He also charges $ 275.00 for office visit and they billed the insurance if the insurance does not pay the bills you directly. I am now searching for another doctor to perform a Myomectomy. He is money hungry that is all he cares about. read more

DR Bruce McLucas is Amazing!!! I was referred to him by a wonderful girlfriend who had a friend who also had the same issues as myself and DR McLucas had performed a embolization on Cindy and she was Happy with the results. So i took a leap of faith and called and made a appointment with DR McLucas. I had been suffering for three years and almost died on a few occasions,the pain was past a ten and unbearable after three years straight i was DONE!!!!!! When i met him he cared about my suffering and made it very clear he could help me. He did!!!!!!!! Three surgery's later I'm Happy and pain free. I've been suffering from uterine fibroids for years. I had Uterine fiboid embolization done by Dr McLucas 2 months ago. The results are amazing. My heavy bleeding stopped, im pain free and i feel GREAT. I have never seen a Dr like him before. He is very caring, direct, and experienced. He was on my bedside in the recovery room to make sure everything is ok with me. Office and hospital staff are very nice and friendly. They called me during my recovery and checked on me. Attention all women who suffer from uterine fibroids. If you are anything like me and tired of the heavy, painful and annoying bleeding then I strongly suggest that you make an appointment with Dr. McLucas. I had suffered from fibroids for over 15 years. I was told as long as they didn't grow too large not to worry about them. Over the years my cycle days increased from 7days to 13 days with heavier bleeding, large blood clots that were extremely painful to pass, not to mention absolutely disgusting. As the years rolled by, the more annoyed I became with my cycle. I got tired of the increase usage of pads and changing constantly though out the day. I was too afraid to stand after sitting for any period of time because I was afraid that I had either soaked through or would as soon as a stood. I was changing a pad every hour on the hour. The clots became unbearable to deal with. I stopped going out on family outings during my cycle and my wardrobe became very dark and dull. I decided one day to research my options. My former OB/GYN was adamant about me having a hysterectomy. She couldn't understand why anyone who question having one as opposed to dealing with what I was going through. I asked her why she was so set on me having hysterectomy and she said because it is definite. If you take out the source then the fibroids won't have anything to attach to. I said I didn't want that, I just wanted to minimize the bleeding without going through a major surgery and having my body parts taken from me. I know several women some of which are in my family that have had the hysterectomy and they strongly suggest against it. So I left her office and was determined to find an alternative to the more hysterectomy and the myomectomy surgery. I did research on alternatives for a year, reading books, looking on the internet and talking to other women. Just when I was about to give up and just deal with what I was going through; is when I ran across Dr. McLucas on the internet. I researched him/his practice for a good 3 weeks and discovered that there was an alternative to the hysterectomy or myomectomy; called UFE (Uterine Fibroid Emmobilzation). I then made the call. I was able to get into his office the very next afternoon. He examined me and it was later determined through my medical history and MRI/Ultrasound exam that I was a great candidate for the UFE procedure. Dr. McLucas and his staff were very personable and pleasant to speak with. I am so glad that I followed my own heart and mind and took the time to research an alternative. My surgery was performed a little over 3 years ago. And I am still ranting and raving about my experience. My appointments are usually late afternoon because from my front door to his it is 99 miles one way. I think that speak volumes about Dr. McLucas. He is my hero. Dr. McLucas was not only attentive to me and my need but to my husband as well as he went to a few of the exams with me. He was also there for my surgery and did the follow up visits with me. The excessive bleeding and pain made it nearly impossible to have an intimate relationship with my husband. I avoided him like the plague. I knew there was an ulterior motive to his attending my appointments but at least he got to see firsthand that I wasn't faking. Dr. McLucas assured us that our lives would get back to normal in no time. I have recommended Dr McLucas to several of my friends and acquaintances. I have had problems with fibroids for over 20 years with terrible anemia and massive fibroids have had 2 myomectomies in the past, both with very credible surgeons, however after 2 recurrences and the fairly long recovery periods I did not want to pursue that option again nor did I want a hysterectomy. Dr Mc Lucas discussed the pros and cons of all of the available options, including some "fringe approaches" I had found on the web. He described what to expect during the procedure, during recovery etc. and everything was exactly as stated. I found both he and his staff to be personable professional and accommodating. I've gone from a 5 month size uterus back down to a normal size where I can form fitting clothes again. Although I am nearly a year out from the procedure I still receive interested and caring follow-up from Dr Mc Lucas. I could not be more satisfied and I am thrilled that I chose this procedure with this Dr and his wonderful staff. I am a physician myself and have a very good sense of what predatory practices are like and this is definitely no the case here. I did not know Dr Mc Lucas prior to my procedure, I found him after doing a fairly extensive search of experts in the area. No procedure in medicine can guarantee 100% results for 100%of patients. Dr. McLucas has really saved my life, before I had the UFE back in October 2010, my periods were crazy. for years I had insane bleeding and pain, to the point where I could barely function. i was bleeding almost three weeks of each month. I was extremely anemic, and I would always have to leave work because when I would stand up blood would just gush like a fountain. There were no pads that would keep me from bleeding through, so needless to say I always wore black. by the time I found Dr. McLucas, one of my fibroids was the size of someone who was 5 months pregnant, it was the cause of blood clots that got into my lungs, and nearly killed me.
