Dr Khan and his nurse Belinda are a great team. Dr Khan is a very experienced laparoscopic surgeon. He used the robot and let me know what to expect. Since surgery was on a Friday I was able to work without issue on Monday. I was a little uncomfortable but work was a good distraction. Belinda is great for answering all your pre and post op questions. She has fabulous bedside manner, is very calming and helps you feel comfortable no matter what questions or comments you have. Before meeting Dr. Kahn, I'd gone to urgent care and found out via ultrasound that I had 3 ovarian cysts (2 on the left side and 1 on the right). My first appointment with Dr. Kahn was very short and he postponed action despite my complaints and presence of symptoms. He had a very blasé demeanor, "we can do surgery if you want/insist so badly," but there wasn't much input from his end. After my first appointment, I already had my doubts but continued to see him anyway as other OBGYNs in the area were booked. Once my symptoms worsened and a trip to the ER later, his demeanor changed and he was fully on board with surgery. I thought my problems would end once the surgery was completed and the cysts removed, but he was only able to remove 2 cysts from my left side because he claimed he did NOT "see" any cysts on the right during surgery and that the right side was entirely healthy (despite my recurrent complaints that my right side caused the most symptoms and pain). I had to go back to urgent care after surgery because of worsening symptoms only to find out that a cyst was indeed still there on my right side. I returned to see Dr. Kahn for a last time post-surgery only for him to confirm the findings sent over from urgent care; he never acknowledged his lapse in judgment and failure to remove the cyst causing the worst symptoms above all others. I now have an appointment scheduled with another OBGYN (which I should've done in the first place) because my symptoms have not let up and I may have to have surgery to remove the remaining ovarian cyst due to Dr. Kahn's ineffectiveness. UPDATE: My new OBGYN successfully removed the remaining cyst Dr. Kahn failed to, as well as surrounding abnormal tissue and gave me a diagnosis of endometriosis. So I still don't understand how Dr. Kahn "did not see" a cyst on my right side during surgery given the cyst + abnormal tissue growth. Complete negligence and severely lacking in standard of care for a doctor when your patient has to have surgery two times for the same exact operation. read more

Not a fan! All he wanted to do was cath me and recommended estrogen cream. Guess what that wasn't the problem! I actually had an E. coli uti and enterococcus vaginal infection. Which he claimed is "normal bacteria" in the vagina so I shouldn't worry even though I was having discomfort and watery discharge. I assure you when any bacteria grows in excess, it's not normal. Saw an integrative obgyn and finally got proper treatment and diagnosis. This clinic only uses the bv/yeast/trich culture which is useless for other bacterial infections or overgrowth. They also won't do urine dip and culture unless you see the NP. They prefer to cath you which is unnecessary and can be painful I love dr willems here though. But I dislike the fact they will not use other cultures because they feel other bacterial overgrowth is simply normal flora. However it is not normal if you are having vaginitis symptoms! I just want to add after reading the doctors response, I want to say he did go over his preferred methods of treatments and tests. The fact is, this office like several other obgyn offices no longer offers a culture called "routine vaginal culture". This is because they believe that organisms such as E. coli, streptococcus, etc are "normal". While yes these organisms are generally present in vaginal flora, they shouldn't come with a "heavy growth". Many women are being diagnosed with vulvadynia when they might actually have an imbalance of vaginal flora, in which an organism can overgrowth. So while I respect this doctors work with ic patients, a simple urine culture can rule out infection if done with a clean catch, not to mention a routine vaginal culture can see if someone may possibly be overgrowing another organism other than bv, yeast, or the parasite trich. Just for patients there are some other doctors out of the LA and OC area that treat IC by utilizing a pcr/DNA broth culture to look for biofilm infections in the bladder along with other more sensitive vaginosis cultures that tell you exactly what bacteria are out of balance. So please know your options. I think this doc knows his stuff with ic/traditional medicine. But there are other diagnostic tools missing at this office. read more

I recently had surgery performed by Dr Kahn and would highly recommend him. He is extremely knowledgeable and really gets to know you at your first appointment. He patiently went through the process and all the questions pre and post op. He was extremely caring and positively motivating even on the day of the surgery. The weekend after the surgery I called his number as I had a concern and he was on call and patiently answered my question. Hmmmm... I have a very mixed review here. I came after another gynecologist failed me miserably and kept having me go to the ER instead of actually investigating to find out what was wrong. Desperate, I googled "Best Ovarian Doctor in San Diego" and Dr Kahn came up. I was able to quickly book an appointment with the incredibly friendly reception. The office is very clean and professionally run and all the office staff I have encountered are absolutely wonderful. Of course it's Scripps so I'm sure that's why but 5 stars for the office and staff. Best in all my recent years of doctor visits. Now the wait time varied. Sometimes I waited a long time in the lobby. More often than not though, I was ushered in the patient room on time, told to undress, then I'd have to sit around for a very very long time to wait for the doctor. One visit was 45 minutes, undressed (but in the gown given) which was ridiculous. As sick as I was though, this could be overlooked. Where I had problems are with Dr. Kahn's lack of listening to me about my long term symptoms and misdiagnosing me. Even worse he ignored the recent imaging results I had already had done and brought to him. Dr. Kahn is on a board for Interstitial Cystitis, a fact unknown to me before my first appointment. My experience is that his predisposition to assume women who come to him with pelvic pain + frequent bladder voiding must have this disorder and that severely clouded his judgement in my case. I wasted money and time coming back for repeated treatments instead of immediately going into a MRI or laparoscopy to diagnose what I actually had (and told him I likely had on every visit). Finally in the 3rd month of visiting for these treatments every 2 weeks I pulled the plug saying they caused too much pain and I really needed him to search for the real cause. By the time month 4 came around I became crippled from debilitating pain and loss of feeling in my legs from long term anemia and required the use of a cane. Finally the MRI was done and I was told cancer was a low chance but possible as well as multiple other tumors. My last appointment with him finally all my frustration came to rise and it was obvious to me he was not the right physician to handle my case. I literally ended up storming out of the office. Thankfully I got to an excellent oncologist gynecologist in Los Angeles who immediately found stage IV Endometriosis ALL over my body and organs (this was causing the bladder issues too), my organs on the right side were actually frozen together which was partially why I needed the cane. I was told I have one of the most severe cases seen. This new doctored listened and will be handling my care as long as I need a gynecologist now. Endometriosis was on my sciatica also which also caused the cane requirement. She also said my anemia went on for so long from having endo for so long that my health was suffering from it. Additionally my fallopian tube had to be removed because it was tangled, twisted and non functional from the endo damage. Also a pre-cancer leiyomyosarcoma was found, luckily it was removed early before there was further damage and also small uterine myomas all over the place. I am so fortunate I had the guts to stand up for myself and get myself to the right place. I was horrified that as much time as I spent in Kahn's office, none of this had ever been considered and my sharing with him my strong suspicion of advanced endometriosis based on a chocolate cyst I had on imaging 7 years earlier (chocolate cyst are only from endometriosis I've been told) went on deaf ears. No matter how many times I told him I did not have IC, that my symptoms were not a match and it seemed to be endo and myoma disease he blew it off and vocally notated in his computer each visit that I was a IC patient. Despite all this, I really truly liked Dr. Kahn as a person, which is why my feelings are so mixed. I think he is a good person and if you do have IC or are simply looking for a ob/gyn for check ups, I still highly recommend this facility. Highly. I however will not return but I had an extreme case. I suppose I wish doctors would be more forthcoming regarding their experience and simply say, "I have not dealt with this before so I must refer you to xxxx". *One last thing, during one of my visits, in which I was on a cycle (and mine are ridiculously heavy) after my exam was finished, I asked the doctor a question and my Jewish faith was revealed in that question. Dr. Kahn was excited and began to share some of his family history. However he kept going on and on and I was caught like a deer in headlights, with only the patient gown on during my cycle (no further details necessary). He seemed so oblivious to this fact which made no sense as be had performed the exam and was aware. That always sat wrong with me so I suppose I should have stopped my visits after that experience. Dr Khan was extremely helpful, compassionate, and understanding of all of my medical issues from our first appointment, which I greatly appreciated as I had already been living with them for a long time. From the beginning he wanted to know what I needed and wanted, what I was living with on a daily basis, how it was effecting my life, and then he gave his medical opinion on what he felt would benefit me the most. For that alone I was very thankful as most doctors I've encountered just want to tell you what they think, without taking you into question, and what you would like. Over the course of five months he listened and took care to make sure he addressed each issue. His nurse Belinda was wonderful, kind and warm each time I saw her, which during COVID was greatly appreciated. I have been a patient of Dr. Khan's for over 10 years. During that time he has helped me live a functional life with the use of bladder instillations and a prescription call Elmiron. Prior to meeting Dr. Khan I had seen several doctors regarding my pain for a mysterious and painful bladder disorder.Some doctors made my condition worse by expanding my bladder and performing other invasive procedures. I was never truly diagnosed until I saw Dr Khan with something called Interstitial Cystitis. All the other doctors gave me antibiotics ,antidepressant and painful hydro distentions. Dr. Khan taught me how to modify my diet, use installations when I was in a flare and helped get my medication covered by insurance. No easy feat. I saw Dr. Kahn after seeing a variety of Urgent Care, Emergency Room and primary care physicians, had a myriad of tests, Cat Scans and Ultrasounds, all of which told me they couldn't find anything wrong. After eight weeks of this, I researched and found Dr. Kahn who is a Urogynecologist. For some reason, I just knew he was the right physician for me. Dr. Kahn recently did my complete (radical) hysterectomy in April 2018. He did a Da Vinci Robotic Hysterectomy. I went home the same day, about 3 hours after the surgery! Truly amazing! The recovery has been almost instant, with virtually no pain afterwards. (And this was a big surgery!) I can't say enough about how this was such a positive experience. I'm now 3 weeks post surgery and doing fantastic. He gave me puedundal nerve blocks..both sides...oh my,big..no need to make someone suffer like this. It is supposed to be guided imagery. My right side NEVER hurt until he did this. Then...he wanted me to have bladder installations that I did not need. I do not know where he got his training. He is almost as bad as Dr. Marc Winter in Laguna. One has to wonder why these MEN are so interested in ruining a woman's health. I do not trust any of these MEN. I am just done. I was referred to Dr. Kahn because my primary care physician, Dr. Nushin Sherkat nearly ripped my cervix out doing a routine IUD removal. I was understandably very nervous when I arrived at Dr. Kahn's office because he wanted to try and remove my IUD without any pain killers. After what I went through with Sherkat, I was afraid I would end up screaming in pain on the table once again (Sherkat told me it was my fault it hurt so bad). Dr. Kahn seemed very certain that he could remove my IUD without any issue and I reluctantly let him. Approximately 5 seconds later, my IUD was out pain-free! I had a robotic assisted hysterectomy 2 weeks ago by Dr. Kahn. I was worried about the recovery because I had heard all the stories of the long recovery and pain. It was the easiest surgery and recovery ever. I was on pain pills only two days and never really hurt. I had some pressure the first few days but never a lot of pain. No pain in moving around or going up and down the stairs or walking. I felt really good and going for long walks by the 4th day. Very little vaginal bleeding and never any pain with the incisions. I would highly recommend Dr. Kahn. Excellent doctor, listens to his patients and quick to check up on his patients. I've been in pain for as long as I can remember. I don't remember what it was like to not brace for the impact of a speedbump, dread the thought of using the restroom or have panic attacks thinking I might have forgotten my pain medication. After years and 20+ doctors I was told a hysterectomy was the solution. Knowing I had to be my own advocate I started doing research on who I wanted to take what felt like half of my body away. I immediately found a list of San Diego doctors that had won awards and narrowed my choice down to 10. I made a spreadsheet and started doing research on the 10 doctors. One of the doctors was Dr. Bruce Kahn. Here is what I learned: * He was one of the first to use robotics to assist with his hysterectomies which reduces incisions and recovery time amongst other things. This showed me he is innovative and can think outside the box. * He speaks and educates other medical professionals which is very near and dear to me. People that are willing to share their gift by taking time from their personal time (as you know is very limited when you are a doctor) means they are truly passionate about what they do and generally means they are truly good people. * He has won several awards and been honored by his community and other doctors. * He has been doing this a long time! I then remembered a really good friend had a hysterectomy and called her to see who did her procedure... it was Dr. Kahn! It was decided! He would do my hysterectomy. I called to set up an appointment but before I met with him, I dropped off my 400+ pages of medical history. He called me about 25 minutes after I dropped it off with his nurse to give me some homework before my appointment which was extremely appreciated! My girlfriend that had her hysterectomy with him said "he is a no BS doctor, he is quick but efficient so don't expect him to caudle you" and she was right. I compare him to my dad, they are so intelligent and good at what they do that they are always 10 steps ahead of you. So what we might feel is rushed is really them just doing their job effectively. Remember, they are the professionals, let them led you. He spent a full hour with me but it did go by very quickly. He also uses a voice recorder to take notes instead of typing which might be different from what you are used to. My first impression of Dr. Kahn was he had a system for diagnosing pain and it works. He asked me a series of questions and then he performed a physical. Within 10 minutes he found a nerve on my abdomen that was incredibly painful. Within 15 minutes he injected the nerve and within 20 minutes I was 100% pain free. Let me say that again... after 10+ years of pain, IT WAS GONE. Those with chronic pain dream every day of a magic pill or shot that would take their pain away and he literally did that. After years of doctors telling me it's all in my head. There is nothing physically wrong with you, you shouldn't be in pain. After telling doctors about these weird pains in my legs that will leave me bed ridden. After them telling me my aliments are not related. After several OBGYN's telling me I need to remove my ovary and uterus. After a doctor did a SURGERY to see if I had endometriosis. After various trips to the ER in debilitating pain... it was gone. I think it is important to remember that ALL doctors have different experience and specialties. They don't always get it right because they are human. I don't blame the doctors that couldn't find this nerve but I did email them and let them know so hopefully they can learn and help others. I feel incredibly fortunate to have met Dr. Kahn and for the first time, there is light at the end of the tunnel for me. Amazing. Dr. Bruce Kahn is a wonderful compassionate caring man. He really did listen to me. He asked questions that helped him, help me. Dr. kahn gave me back my zest for life. I was in so much pain for so long, I was not sure it would ever go away. Dr. Kahn did everything he said he was going to be able to do, and I am now pain free and my bladder problems are gone. I had gone to Dr. Kahn several years ago and recently I had a concern that brought me back to his office. As during my past visits Dr. Kahn was very caring. He was easy to speak to and even my husband commented on his great bed side manner. Unfortunately, my visit resulted in me needing surgery. His staff scheduled everything quickly and in a few days I was in the hospital. Before and after the surgery Dr. Kahn was in contact with us. Today, (4 weeks later) I returned for a follow up and again Dr. Kahn and his staff were outstanding. My husband and I find him a wonderful physician and caring person. read more
