I have been seeing Dr Bruce Saal, an excellent dermatogist, for 20+ years plus. He is 77 years young and is still young at heart. He has over 50 years experience and enjoying working with custoners of all ages. He keeps me young, healthy and shows me how to take care of my skin, and my nails without fungus. He is still so popular that the new customers have to wait on the waiting list over 5 pages long to see him. Personnaly, I think it is worth it because he is honest, and has experience to treat your skin, nail fungus, and other skin care as removing tatoos, etc... He has a beautiful staff with two nurse practitioners, and other nurses to prepare the skins prior to see him. I have been seeing Dr Saal twice a year to make sure my skin is healthy and to refill my prescriptions. I am 73 and retired. My friends told me I look around 60. This is credited to Dr Saal and his staff. I highly recommend Dr Saal as one of the best dermatologists in the bay area. read more

Regrettably, the environment at Dr. Saal's office has evolved over time. It has been consistently subpar and disappointing for the past 6 years. The front office staff, scheduling (last minute cancellations or rescheduling), and billing department (over charged a handful of times), display a lack of professionalism and consistent disrespect attitudes towards patients, which is truly disheartening to witness and experience. A new nurse of Asian descent was hired several years ago and unbelievably her behavior was inappropriate during the 3 occasions we interacted with her. I will never have her touch my face with any devices ever again. She also touched me inappropriately and I voiced my concerns and no one ever resolved the concerns. However, after seeing a new nurse (very good) who assists Dr. Saal, the experience has been positive. Despite being a loyal patient for 37 years, with Dr Saal, I have observed a significant decline in the office environment over the last 15 years. I have even recommended 22 individuals to this practice over the past 37 years, but never again. Stacey is the only long term employee (manager) still at the office and she has been consistently wonderful and professional. However, definitely not the rest of the office staff as mentioned above. I guess things and people do change eventually. My referrals and myself have gone to other Dermatologist offices to experience better services. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Saal's for close to 30 years. I can't even remember who first recommended him to me, but I've been loyal ever since. If we could clone him, we would -- appointments take time to get, but he is absolutely worth the wait. I'm in my 60s, and I work hard to stay in shape and take care of my skin. I don't have tattoos, I spend time outdoors, and people are always surprised when they hear my age. A big part of that is thanks to Dr. Saal. His care and maintenance have made a remarkable difference over the years. I've referred several friends to him, and every one of them continues to see him at least twice a year for skin maintenance. We all share the same sentiment: he's exceptional. One of these days, we should host a banquet just to compare stories -- he's a character, a pleasure to be around, and an incredible dermatologist. Although I'm writing this review on behalf of my mother, I also feel thankful for the impact Dr. Bruce has made on my mother's ability to live a confident and happy life. For over 20 years, my mother had been suffering from a severe form of melasma on her face (see photos). She never left home without several layers of makeup, which didn't really effectively hide the dark spots of discoloration very well anyway. Her self-confidence deteriorated over the years and she felt very hopeless. She found out about Dr. Bruce Seal from an acquaintance and sought treatment from him. My mother doesn't speak English very well and yet Dr. Seal was patient and effective in communicating with her. Not only was he kind, he was knowledgeable and professional. He took one look at my mother's condition and immediately reassured her that 1) it was treatable and 2) that he could help her with the insurance process, since it was clearly a non-cosmetic case. Imagine the relief and hope my mother felt when she learned her condition was curable AND that it would be considered a medical treatment and within our means to pay for it. I've been going to this office over a year and their nurse practitioner, Meghan Bauchman was AMAZING. I struggled with hormonal acne all my teen years and my twenties. After my pregnancy, I began developing painful cystic acne. It was so bad that a new break out would occur every week. Once I started going to Meghan, she found the right medication and treatments for my acne. Today, I feel more confident about my skin than I have ever been in my life. My only complaint is the scheduling. Since Meghan moved out of the area and left the practice, Dr. Saal has been completely booked out. I hope that he finds someone as good as Meghan to replace her. This morning, after greeting me, he told me that he was vaccinated against Covid-19 and promptly removed his facemask. When I (twice) asked him to put it back on, he did, but not without a five-minute lecture about how masks are a "sham," and that if I really looked at the data, I wouldn't have so much anxiety about Covid-19. Dr Saal has transformed my skin, I receive so many compliments on my skin and I have Dr Saal to thank for that. He has his own formulated products like tretinoin and hydroquinone this saves me a lot of money. Telling you the truth, if you want to go to a doctor office that Assistants yell at you, close the door on you when you are talking, and doctor gives you prescription before even you finish explaining (to get to his other more important patients), then choose this place. Let me just say one word. Don't even think about trying this place; the customer service is just terrible...horrible. They have two of the worst assistants i have ever seen. Patients are supposed to be cared for. these people though look down on you, making you feel miserable...i don't know who hired these people. I like the fact that he does not push extreme measures when it comes to maintaining the healthy skin. He would do small procedures but mostly prescribe a maintenance regime with ointments and creams. There are plenty of offices that will have you in and out in minutes and do mediocre work---Dr. Saal will listen and answer your questions candidly. Dr.Saal has been my doctor for approximately 10 years, and he has had a positive effect on my self confidence and appearance. I have seen him for a variety of purposes and treatments over the years and he has always met or exceeded my expectations. Sometimes the waiting time has been inconsistent. I bring a book. Usually I haven't needed it. The last few visits things I have waited less than five minutes, so I think whatever problems there were have been worked out. I have been Dr Bruce's office since in March , 2017. I am honestly not happy the way he treats me . He doesn't care and listen what my concerns. He seems very mean and cocky to me. My first appointment made with them in December 2016 for January 2017. However, when i got there on time, they didn't have my appointment. I had to schedule another one for one month later. And then I saw Dr. Saal for 3 or 4 times in 2017. Each time my wait time was from half hour to one hour. Their admin never smiles. No facial expressions. The way they interact you was as if you owed them something and they had to do you some favor that they didn't want to do, even though a lot of times you have to pay hundreds of $$$ for one visit. Dr. Saal does have lots of complaints about his equipment or the government. But he doesn't explain your problems or his decision of treatment on your skin each time. I trusted he has lots of professional experience so I didn't ask and I had a few follow-up checks and treatments. However, my face skin got thinner each time, and the red spots still don't get off. And the other spot on my elbow even got bigger and sometimes itchy which didn't happen before. After paying totally over $1500 out of my own pockets, plus the insurance payments, I am convinced there won't be any improvement and it is totally NOT worthwhile, I stopped seeing them. And I must go to another doctor to get a second opinion on my elbow spot. If you do go, keep all receipts for your payment. Because a few months later, you might still receive bills from them telling you that you owe them a co-pay, yet you have the receipt of that payment - they request you to send a proof of your receipt, and they don't apologize for their mistake and the inconvenience they cause to you. read more

LDr. Saal took his time with me. I felt relaxed and comfortable as we rambled along in conversation on many health topics and even, I don't know, "off topic" issues like travel and history. Good guy...he must love what he does but he's probably getting on and could retire. Don't get me wrong, he's on top of his dermatology work and I intend to get exams with him annually as long as we last lol. As for the staff I recall there may have been some billing confusion but I didn't have my Medicare ducks in a row, I think it was. They get paid to work it out and I don't get paid to do anything... Came in for Sculpsure treatment. I'm very pleased with the results. Recommend to have at least two treatments (you'll be so glad with the results from the first one that you'll want to come for more!) Staff was very professional and courteous. They made me feel comfortable and explained to me how the treatment worked. They would regularly check up on me during the treatment. Due to the way the treatment works, it can feel a bit uncomfortable the first time. But one gets used to it and by the second treatment, it's fine. For best results, I recommend that, in addition to the treatment, to exercise and eat a healthy diet (nothing specific, just be consistent and can still have a cheat meal once or twice a week). Let me start off my saying this review should have been posted years ago but unfortunately since I am a hardworking student in the medical field myself I haven't had the chance till now. I use to get treatments done here with Dr Saal and his wonderful nurses. I use to have cystic acne and I also had facial scarring from a unfortunate dog attack when I was 10 (no believe it or not I do not look like Frankenstein...) Dr. Saal set up a thorough acne treatment plan and always revised it based on the improvement of my skin. I never had any worsening of my acne or skin while being a patient here. My favorite part of treatment was CO2 Ablative Laser treatment which was done as an adjunct to my acne therapy to help reduce acne scars in general. While I can't go to Dr. Saal anymore, due to my insurance sadly, I highly recommend this dermatology clinic and their whole staff! read more

I have been going here for 6 years and my skin is fantastic. I have very sensitive skin that scars and wrinkles early, but Dr. Saal and his nurse practitioners found a long term treatment that works for me and my budget. I have never had a single burn, scratch, scar. They listen to you and tell you straight away if they are able to treat you for what you want to have treated. Tried this office out based on the pos reviews on Yelp. Dr. Saal is...a bit strange. I explained my skin concerns to him, he listened & then explained some issues to me (great, he was thorough). Here's the weird part - when I tried to ask him questions, he absolutely wouldn't let me talk, shook his head at me, interrupted me & then never answered my questions directly but only in a round-about way. STAY AWAY. This is the worst doctor's office I have ever been to. The customer service is terrible. They openly YELL at their customers and office is full of drama. The most uncooperative, useless, and selfish people I have ever come across and I work with people everyday. Wait time is at least 40 minutes even when through you have an appointment. They always claim they are OVERBOOKED for the day, I spent half a day in the office and saw just 2 other patients come in. Dr. Saal is a pretty weird guy. I waited for over an hour past my appointment, and just as I was getting ready to leave in a huff, he showed up. It turned out that he had fallen out of his chair while seeing the previous patient, and hurt bis back. That was a little strange...who falls out of their chair? Anyway, the weirder part was yet to come. I went in for a skin cancer check, and while examining me he noticed that I have a supernumerary vestigial nipple on my rib cage. It's really common, and I already knew what it was and wasn't concerned about it at all, but he wanted to discuss it with me, and told me that some cultures consider it a sign of sexual prowess. Um, okaaaaayyyy, can we get on with my cancer checkup please? He did do a thorough exam, and was good about explaining why he didn't find any reason for concern over a few of my individual moles. He also was nice about taking off a few that were sticking out and bothering me. He took one off my face and did a good job, I have no scar. I asked about cosmetic treatments and he whipped out a little photo album full of photos of himself and explained how his face had changed over time. It was a good description of how the face thins and lengthens with age, but it was slightly odd that he was using his own photos to show me. Again, not really over the line, just a little odd. At the end he said, "You're young and beautiful and you really don't need any cosmetic treatments." Which I appreciated, because I'm almost 40. Personally, I think the doctor has been treating himself a little too much. His skin is tight and shiny-looking. He looks a little bit artificial. Honestly, the best dermatologist ever is in San Francisco. Dr. Vic Narurkar. He's not weird like every other cosmetic dermatologist seems to be, he doesn't overindulge in his own treatments, he always errs on the side of caution, he is eminently skilled (teaches at Stanford), and he's a super nice, down to earth guy. I wish he weren't so far away. Now I'm stuck down here in the South Bay looking for someone to replace him who's not a sketchy oddball. Oh also, Dr. Saal's office never responded to my insurance company's request for info, so I am still getting bills 6 months later. for something that should have been covered. Sigh. read more

I come here for various treatments and I basically refer to them as my little fountain of youth.
