We were nervous about the water being cold since we went in the beginning of October but the wetsuit keeps you very warm (granted, it was quite sunny when we went). We forgot to grab our complimentary sticker the lesson and dropped by its location in Tofino the day after. It's a nice place and has a great collection of stickers to pick from. I liked the small and intimate session. Our instructor taught us the basics for surfing and was super helpful when we were in the water. ​​​​​​​​​​I would definitely sign up for lessons again! They provide wet suits, shoes, and surf boards. You can also lock up your items in their truck. Don't bring food with you if you are leaving it on the beach. The birds will peck at your bags looking for food!

I ended up renting a beginner board from the shop for the next three days, calling every afternoon to ask if I could extend my rental of the board and wetsuit "just one more day." I had recently turned 50 and the encouragement I received from owner who was a woman of a similar "vintage" was gold. When I finally brought my board back after 4 days I felt like I had been adopted into the surfing tribe...a tribe with a rare woman surf shop owner generously opening the door. I really liked that Alex made them do as much as possible themselves. Too often, beginner lessons are just pushing people into wave. My boys learned quite a bit more in just one session with Tofino Paddle Surf. Equipment, wetsuits, booties - everything was made available in their sizes. Highly recommended.
